UP Board to crack down on age fraud in High School exams
Addressing the issue at the annual general meeting of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) held in New Delhi on June 14, UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh announced plans to introduce stronger, technology-driven safeguards to prevent the misuse of forged documents in student registrations.
The problem is particularly prevalent in the sports sector, where overage athletes manipulate their birth records to compete in younger age categories.
As the largest school board in the country, the UP Board has been a prime target for such fraudulent activities.
Singh said, 'We are committed to making the registration process more secure and foolproof.'
One of the key solutions under consideration is the integration of Aadhaar and APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) into the student registration process. 'Linking these digital identity systems will help ensure data authenticity and minimise age-related fraud,' Singh said, after returning to Prayagraj from the meeting.
The APAAR ID is a 12-digit unique student identifier launched under the Union government's 'One Nation, One Student ID' initiative, as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It allows students to digitally store and access their academic records, thus serving as a lifelong academic identity.
At the SGFI meeting, Uttar Pradesh was also recognised for organising the best sporting events, with secretary Bhagwati Singh receiving the award on behalf of the state. The gathering also ratified previous resolutions and discussed future action plans and strategic initiatives to strengthen the education ecosystem.

India, US to sign new 10-year defence framework later this year
India and the United States agreed to sign a new 10-year defence partnership framework when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his American counterpart Pete Hegseth will meet later this year, the Pentagon on Wednesday. The decision was finalised during a telephonic conversation between the two on Tuesday, with both sides reviewing the 'considerable progress' made in bilateral defence cooperation since the joint statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in February, the statement added. 'Hegseth emphasized the priority the United States places on India as its key defence partner in South Asia,' the statement added. While the US Department of Defense did not elaborate on specific details, the statement added that the two sides 'discussed pending major US defence sales to India'. India's defence ministry said that during the call, Singh and Hegseth discussed a broad range of defence cooperation issues, including training, military exchanges and expanding defence industry collaboration. Singh appreciated the 'unwavering support extended by US to India for its fight against terrorism', the defence ministry said. The statement came on a day when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said ahead of Quad foreign ministers' meeting in Washington DC that the world must 'display zero tolerance' on terrorism. 'Victims and perpetrators must never be equated,' Jaishankar had said. 'And India has every right to defend its people against terrorism, and we will exercise that right. We expect our Quad partners to understand and appreciate that.'

Only some fine tuning, adjustments, a consolidated and positive approach among stakeholders are needed. One major aspect of the new sports policy is its alignment with the National Education Policy. I have personally felt the impact of sports at the school level. Before I excelled at the state, national and international arenas, I was first a school games champion. My roots were strong because I was honing my strengths from my school days. Additionally, block-level sports infrastructure will be developed to ensure that even the most rural or remote areas have access to facilities, fostering inclusivity and engagement. If this happens, we will have an infra pyramid and a well-oiled feeder line that can benefit the country in the long run. Pentagon Confirms 10-Year India-US Defence Framework Aimed at Deepening Ties
India and US likely to sign new defence framework at next Rajnath Singh Pete Hegseth meet. India and the US will ink a new India US defence framework when Singh meets his US counterpart later this year, according to a Pentagon official. The U.S.-India Defence Framework was noted in an official readout published by the Pentagon on Wednesday. 'The two leaders agreed to sign the India US defence contract next 10-year India-U.S. defense pact at their upcoming meeting this year.' 'The two sides had a productive discussion, including an overview of the accomplishments made since the release of the February 2025 2+2 ministerial statement in further strengthening Rajnath Singh defence ties,' the readout said. 'The Pentagon said the two sides discussed significant upcoming U.S. defense sales to India and the importance of continued India US defence cooperation,' it added, without elaborating. During the phone call on Tuesday, Singh had also asked Hegseth to expedite the delivery of GE F404 engines needed for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), people familiar with the development told PTI. Singh also 'underscored the need to expedite the finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and GE Aerospace for the joint production of F414 jet engines' which is 'expected to be a significant element of apache helicopter India deal,' sources familiar with the development told The EurAsian Times. The delayed supply of F404 engines by GE Aerospace has led to the state-run aerospace major missing its deadline to deliver Tejas Mark 1A aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). On Tuesday, the Indian readout of the Singh–Hegseth meeting said the two 'discussed a range of issues related to defence cooperation, including sustained military-to-military cooperation, capacity building through training and exchanges, and enhanced engagement between the two defence industries.'
