UFC 314 results: Dominick Reyes sleeps Nikita Krylov with clean, counter right to continue career comeback
The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger distanced himself even more from the career rut that had his UFC stay in question just a few years back. Reyes (14-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) did so by knocking out Nikita Krylov at the 2:24 mark of Round 1.
The bout opened the pay-per-view main card of UFC 314 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+), which takes place Saturday at Kaseya Center in Miami.
Reyes was playing the counter game with Krylov (29-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC). In a blitz from Krylov, Reyes connected with a clean right-hand counter that sent him crashing down to the canvas. The referee almost immediately jumped in to stop the fight.
With this win, Reyes is now on a three-fight winning streak, as he had previously stopped veterans Anthony Smith and Dustin Jacoby. Prior to this three-fight run, Reyes was on a four-fight losing streak, with three defeats by knockout.
Reyes called for one more fight against a top contender before getting a crack at the UFC light heavyweight title.

On the other hand, Krylov saw a three-fight winning streak come to an end. This defeat also marked his sixth stoppage loss in the UFC.

Coach Javier Mendez: Islam Makhachev vs. Ilia Topuria 'the No. 1 fight to make' in UFC
The building blocks for a potential super fight between Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria are being put in place. There's no doubt a clash between the two current pound-for-pound bests would be big for the sport, but how big exactly? Makhachev's long-time coach, Javier Mendez, thinks a championship bout between Makhachev and Topuria is the biggest fight the UFC could make today. This wasn't the case a few months ago, as Mendez told MMA Junkie last year that Topuria had ways to go to be at the level of his student. However, since those comments, Topuria defended the UFC featherweight title, by becoming the first to knockout Max Holloway, and then moved up to lightweight to knock out Charles Oliveira and claim the belt, which was vacated by Makhachev himself. "I think every fan wants to watch this fight," Mendez told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. "It's the No. 1 fight, No. 1. The other one was Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall – that was No. 1. But right now, if Islam wins, the No. 1 fight to make is Topuria vs. Islam." Makhachev vacated his UFC lightweight title earlier this year, and is expected to challenge UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena in the coming months. No official date or location has been announced by the UFC. Should Makhachev become a two-division UFC champion, just like Topuria did in June, Mendez would love to see a clash between the two – whether it's at 155 or 170 pounds. "La Leyenda" has been very vocal about wanting to fight Makhachev and has chased him for some time now. He's also made some bold claims, saying he could submit Makhachev, who's one of the most dominant grappler's MMA has ever seen. Some would be bothered by Topuria's comments, but Mendez very much likes what's going on. "I like what he's been doing," Mendez said. "He's doing a good job at getting people to want to watch the fight. The more Ilia does, the more people want to see this fight. I like everything he's doing as a fighter. He's very strong and doesn't care about the weight. I think now it's a great fight for us. The first thing Islam wanted was a legacy fight – he wanted the welterweight title. Now if we win the welterweight title, we can go down or he can come up. That's what I say, but if the UFC doesn't like it, it's not happening. But first we need to win." Buccaneers earn low spot in latest rankings from ESPN ahead of 2025 season
The NFL and the coaches that have the privilege to lead one of the 32 teams in the league are in a unique spot. They get to build their staff, top to bottom, in hopes they can execute the dream outcome they have in winning a Super Bowl. Of course, every year, there are some coaches being fired, assistants move around, while others get promoted and have their chance to lead a team. All of these moving pieces can make things hard to track and grade, but ESPN's Benjamin Solak did it. He looked at all 32 teams and their staff and ranked them. Bucs fans won't be happy to know he ranked them 26th. He explains his rankings of the Bucs staff, writing, "Come with me to a magical land in which Liam Coen actually stayed as the Bucs' OC this season (too soon, Bucs fans?) They'd probably be 12th or 13th on this list -- maybe even higher. . .But it isn't, so those little margins from the head coach glare all the more. I'm very excited to see what Grizzard, who has the vibe of a whiz kid, does at the helm. . .Color me intrigued. But even if Grizzard has the goods, it will be difficult to replicate just how prolific the Buccaneers' offense was last season. Tampa needs more from Bowles' in-game decision-making, and he needs more from his defense. . ." While keeping Liam Coen remains a touchy subject, the team's excitement surrounding Josh Grizzard should keep readers and fans optimistic. As for Todd Bowles, the team has faith in him after he received a contract extension this offseason, but he still needs to do more than just win division titles. A playoff run into the divisional round or an NFC championship game would also work.
