Housewife is arrested for threatening hairdresser

She was believed to have made the threat via a social media messaging application. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 38-year-old local was detained at Kampung Hidayat Batu 4, Jalan Apas, here, at 2.45pm on Friday. 'A hairdresser lodged a complaint on Jan 3, last year, claiming she received a threatening message via WhatsApp,' he said, Saturday. Jasmin said the arrest was made by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) in front of an unnumbered house, where a mobile phone was also confiscated. According to the police report, the suspect had allegedly sent a message stating, 'Di mana-mana aku jumpa binimu, aku kasi pecah kepalanya (Wherever I see your wife, I'll smash her head).' 'The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation through online communication, which carries a sentence of up to two years in prison upon conviction,' said Jasmin. In a separate case, police arrested a local youth suspected of trespassing into a home and attempting to assault a woman in her rented room in town last Sunday. Jasmin said the 20-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Strike Team from Tawau Police Station at 10.15pm on Thursday at a car park in the town area. The arrest followed a police report lodged by the alleged victim, a 25-year-old female tenant who was traumatised and concerned for her safety. 'According to the complainant, the incident occurred while she was asleep in her room when the suspect allegedly broke in, covered her mouth and attempted to rob her. 'She was startled by the suspect's actions and immediately woke up, screamed and struggled, managing to push the door open, which caused the suspect to be thrown out of the room,' he said. Initial investigations revealed that the victim did not suffer any losses or have any valuables stolen, as her swift reaction thwarted the suspect's intentions. Jasmin added that police reviewed CCTV footage and carried out intelligence work, which led to the suspect's arrest. A cap, sling bag and a pair of slippers believed to have been used by the suspect were also seized. Each side regularly accuses the other of firing or taking other actions that could trigger a nuclear accident. The station, Europe's biggest nuclear power plant, is not operating but still requires power to keep its nuclear fuel cool. The plant's Russia-installed management said in its statement that the station 'continues to operate normally, with all necessary safety precautions in place.'

[UPDATED] Foreigner nabbed for slashing ex-girlfriend in private college
SUBANG JAYA: Police have arrested a foreigner for slashing his former girlfriend at a private college here today. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the 20-year-old victim, also a foreigner, was in critical but stable condition with a slash wound to her neck. He said the ex-boyfriend was detained shortly after the incident. "At 6.30pm, Subang Jaya police received a report that a foreign man had injured his former girlfriend, also a foreigner, with a knife at a private university here. "Investigations revealed that the victim, aged 20, had slash wounds to the left side of her neck. The victimwas sent to University Malaya Medical Centre and placed in the Red Zone. "The victim is said to be in stable condition," he said. Wan Azlan said the suspect in the case, a 21-year-old who is the victim's former boyfriend, was detained not long after the incident. "The motive behind the attack is still under investigation," he said. He added that the case has been classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, which carries a sentence of imprisonment of up to 10 years, fine or caning, or any two of the three punishments. Trio ordered to defend charge of robbing luxury handbag
KOTA KINABALU (July 14): A Sessions Court here today ordered three men to enter their defence on a charge of gang robbery. Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Mohd Melvin Matdi, 36, Shahrizan Sablee, 24, and Zamree Said, 35. The three were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. The court fixed August 8 for the defence trial. Mohd Melvin was denied bail and remains in remand, while bail for the other two accused was extended. According to the facts of the case, the three men allegedly robbed a 39-year-old woman of a luxury handbag at a tamu in Menggatal at about 4.20am on March 7 last year. Deputy public prosecutor Bryan Francis is leading the prosecution. Counsel Sylvester Kwan is representing Mohd Melvin, while the other two accused remain unrepresented. Four prosecution witnesses are expected to be called during the trial.
