Gateshead: Busker' music school overlooks her former pitch
"I took up the guitar and started playing the piano," she said."Then I started busking and now I've just discovered songwriting, which I love."Since joining the music academy she has developed her talents to a level where she has been able to work with the 30-strong Young Northern Sinfonia Orchestra on an arrangement of her song Run Like Rain.
"It was amazing to be in such a big space performing with a 30-piece orchestra," she said. "It's like a poem to myself."
Her tutor Sam Rapley is impressed with her development and dedication."She is very creative and hard working and the songwriting is a real skill of hers as well," he said. "The lyrics and a lot of the ideas for the orchestra, she has come up with herself."
The Glasshouse, formerly known as The Sage, turned 20 years old in December.To mark its third decade the music venue recently launched a new project to expand its Music Academy for Young People and double the number of students who can attend.It also aims to become the most affordable music centre in Europe and plans to offer £500,000 of bursaries towards music classes each year.The Glasshouse also wants to encourage more people to take up a career in music.As for Skye, she plans to work on writing new songs and hopes to entice the interest of streaming services."Music is a space for me to express myself," she said"I want the lyrics in my music to hold meaning for others, so they can relate to them."

Bay, who lives in North London, is best known for his breakout hit Hold Back The River. He's won two Brit Awards, an Ivor Novello and been nominated for three Grammys. His latest album, last year's Changes All The Time, featured collaborations with big industry names like Noah Kahan, The Lumineers and The Killers' Brandon Flowers. The latter came to be through a mutual friend and Bay found himself hanging out at a ski lodge in Utah that the band had turned into a studio. He told us: "It had this double height hallway where they put drums in that sort of Led Zeppelin way — it's wonderful. It was very informal and we'd go for breakfast in the morning and Brandon would drive us there. James Bay is joined by The Killers' Brandon Flowers on single Easy Distraction 'When I first played the track, some people would say, 'I can hear a bit of Killers in it' meaning they hear Brandon's writing input. 'But as much as I wanted it to sound 'Killersy', because I'm a fan, I'm proud to say that the germ of the idea that started that song is the verse and melody that I took in. That was my homework. I took it in, and I said, 'What do you think of this?' 'And Brandon had a listen and went, 'Oh, yeah, let's give that a go. Let's see if we can put some lyrics to it.' And he jumps up on a microphone and gets his phone out and jotted down all his lyric ideas. It was very prolific and unbelievable.' Meanwhile, Kahan, who shares the same A&R team as Bay, hasn't forgotten days spent supporting Bay earlier in his career. Home Bargains bosses said savvy interior lovers "shouldn't settle for ordinary" and hailed the mirror as the "perfect addition" to homes. And it seems like people are in full agreement as they've been running to get their hands on it. One shopper shared a snap of the mirror on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, which boasts 2.6million members, and said: "£9.99 home bargains."
