Seth Rogen, Cristin Milioti, Noah Wyle and more react to Emmy nominations
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on CBS from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 14. Nate Bargatze is slated to host.
Here are the reactions for some of the day's notable nominees:
Seth Rogen for 'The Studio'
"Being at this point in our lives and making a thing that has this type of attention is just so kind of novel in a lot of ways, and really exciting and thrilling and very validating in a way that I'm not used to being validated. — Rogen, nominated for best actor in a comedy series as well as writing and directing, in an interview.
Evan Goldberg for 'The Studio'
"My mother never wanted me to grow up to make a bunch of filthy R-rated comedies, but she is really proud today." — Goldberg, nominated for outstanding writing for a comedy series, in an interview.
Erin Doherty for 'Adolescence'
'What I love about this job is that when you do the work so wholeheartedly, even when you move on you learn lessons. If you just sit and listen, and let someone talk, that is such a gorgeous offering, and I don't think we do it that often. I'm trying to take that forward.' — Doherty, nominated for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie, in an interview.
Noah Wyle for 'The Pitt'
'I'm overjoyed that the nominations were spread across all the different departments as it reflects our collective effort. A heartfelt congrats to all my fellow nominees. I'm humbled and grateful.' — Wyle, nominated for best lead actor in a drama series, wrote in a statement.
Jason Isaacs for 'The White Lotus'
' People wanted to watch it. They wanted to talk about it. They wanted to dress as the characters. They wanted to drink pina coladas. They wanted, they wanted to meet, you know, and watch it together.
Look, the real world, the clouds are gathering and it's not that easy to be in. It's complicated and challenging to be in and to stay sane and happy and it gave people a happy place to be. And so they just wanted to continue it and so expand it into the periphery of us and our private lives, which seemed a bit odd, but I get why. They wanted to stay talking 'White Lotus' stuff.' — Isaacs, nominated for best supporting actor in a drama series, said in an interview.
Tony Gilroy for 'Andor'
'I'm really happy to see that the technical side of our show got recognized and Michael Wilkinson and Luke Hall and the sound departments and the visual effects department. I thought that really got a little bit overlooked last time. I wish there'd been more for the actors. — Gilroy, nominated for best drama series and outstanding original music and lyrics, in an interview.
Cristin Milioti for 'The Penguin'
'It's been so beautiful to see how many nominations the show has gotten. I'm so, so thrilled for my fellow cast and crew. It has been a really thrilling day...really wonderful.
'I had been wishing for a role like that for a long time and searching for one, and I just had the time of my life. You know, I connected with that character so deeply.' — Milioti, nominated for best actress in a limited series, heard about the nomination while running errands. She spoke in an interview.
Stephen Graham for 'Adolescence'
"Poleaxed is a good word, is it not? (I'm) just so happy and so full of gratitude for the ensemble, for the piece itself as a whole, as a collective... Just the fact that there's not one specific person or there's no one specific thing, but each element has been acknowledged, and to be a part of such a wonderful ensemble, to me, is what it's all about. — Graham was nominated both for best actor and outstanding writing in a limited series or movie. He spoke in an interview.
Connor Tomlinson for 'Love On The Spectrum'
"That's amazing...I feel like a leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day.' — Connor Tomlinson, a reality star on 'Love On The Spectrum,' reacting in a video message to the show's five nominations.
Jenny Slate for 'Dying for Sex'
'I feel really proud, really proud of our show. Really proud of (show inspiration and producer) Nikki Boyer and all the work she's done. And I just feel so happy that this work came into my life. It's been one sort of happiness after another.
'Our show really allows people to think about choices they want to make for themselves so that they could have more, so that they could step into the form that they actually like see themselves in, you know, like be the person that they feel that they are, but are somehow kept from." — Slate, nominated for best supporting actress in a limited series or movie, spoke in an interview from her home in Massachusetts.

Duck Dynasty star has 'unbelievable' health comeback... two months after death of 'soulmate' Phil Robertson
Duck Dynasty star Miss Kay has made an 'unbelievable' health comeback two months after her husband Phil Robertson 's heartbreaking death. The TV personality, 77, was 'depressed' after her partner of 60 years passed away on May 20 at the age of 79 due to a battle with Alzheimer's. Last month in June, her son Willie revealed that she was 'not in the best of health' as she mourned the loss of her husband and Duck Dynasty monarch. However, he recently joined wife Korie to offer a positive update on his mother during an interview with Fox News Digital published on Wednesday. 'She is doing so much better. It's unbelievable how she made the turn. I think she was just really kind of depressed after Phil passed away,' Willie told the outlet. 'You know, you've been with somebody for 60 years, over 60 years, so just losing her soulmate and she is getting older.' Willie added that his mother had been 'struggling' with Phil's death but has since 'bounced back, and she just went to church. I think she's going out of town this weekend. She's traveling more. She's on our show.' Korie also expressed how Miss Kay made an appearance on the Duck Call Room podcast this month as 'a proof of life video.' She further said that Kay has 'been with us for a few things that we've been filming this week. So that's been really special. 'And, you know, that's a special part about our show. We feel like it's just getting to do it with our family and getting to spend that time together.' Willie also reflected on his father's passing and stated, 'We were just happy knowing that he's gone on to be with the Lord, and he was so secure in that. 'That's pretty much all he talked about his whole life was whenever it ended, the faith and hope that he had. 'Also with Alzheimer's - the bad part is you have to watch them go down, but I think it does prepare you and I think she may have been even in denial, you know, like that it was actually gonna happen.' Willie explained that Kay 'just had to deal with it' but 'stuck close to the family.' The reality star continued, 'We were all there and all around her, and she was with different family members and just took care of her friends and the relationships she had.' He then expressed gratitude that his mother is able to have 'brighter days' but admitted not having his father around has left 'a big void.' 'And I know them two were so together in pretty much everything that they did, so I know it was hard for her.' Last month in June shortly after Phil's death, Willie candidly shared to USA Today Network that Kay was 'not in the best of health' and loved ones are 'trying to help her out as much as we can.' And in April before her husband's death, Jase Robertson had also opened up about Kay's health on an episode of the Unashamed With The Robertson Family podcast. 'She got an infection from a fall from a cut that had happened earlier,' he said at the time. 'We were dealing with the fact that maybe this is it.' Earlier this month, Kay made a surprise appearance on the Duck Call Room podcast where she said, 'I'm tired of being dead.' Al Robertson - who was also on the episode - opened up about false AI reports about his mother's and Si Robertson's deaths. 'Tales of your demise have been greatly exaggerated, 'cause you're here today. So this is the proof of life video,' he said. They also reflected on Phil's passing, with Al saying, 'Obviously this was an hard deal for all of us, but it was especially hard for Mom.' He then brought up the moment when Kay went back to church for the first time since her husband's death - and how she had shocked how others told her how well she looked. 'She said, "I'm tired of people saying how good I look. My husband just died. It's not like I'm back on the market."' Al added, 'I was like, Mom, they're not saying, "Do you wanna date?" they're saying, "You look amazing."' But Kay chimed in with, 'Well, I thought I should look sad.' Nearly two months earlier, Phil's family issued a statement on Facebook to announce Phil's death after a battle with Alzheimer's in his final months. 'We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,' Willie's daughter-in-law Korie had written. 'Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus.' She then added, 'We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.' In the months leading up to Phil's passing, both the late star and wife Kay had been residing at the same facility together, which Jase explained on the podcast. 'My dad's not doing great overall, and my mom is not doing great physically. She has to have pretty much 24/7 professional healthcare, but my dad, it's like .. he's been so much calmer since she came back.' He continued, 'They're in a facility where there are other people, but they have their own little private room - it's great - and so, they're helping each other, so that's been positive.' Other family members jumped to social media to pay tribute to Phil such as Willie and Jep Robertson, and the late star's granddaughter Sadie. Sadie recently revealed the last words her grandfather had told her on Instagram and said: 'One of the last things he said to me was "full strength ahead!" Amen!' It came after she also shared a Bible verse which read: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come – 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV.' The media personality continued, 'As I was sitting with Papaw Phil today, I thought about this verse… he has already experienced this on earth - going from dead to alive by the power of Christ! 'It was his testimony that changed his life, our families life, and thousands of others. Now he is experiencing it in the fullness. Fully alive in Christ. The new has come.'

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spark outrage over LGBT character who takes over from Raphael
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spark outrage over LGBT character who has taken over from Raphael. Jennika, a yellow-masked mutant and member of the TMNT universe, made history as the first openly LGBTQ + turtle in the franchise. Introduced as a human assassin in the IDW Publishing comic series, Jennika, also known as Jenny, was transformed into a turtle following a life-saving blood transfusion from Leonardo. She is often called 'the fifth Turtle' but, before her transformation, Jennika was a female member of the Foot Clan who became exposed to the same mutagen that created the original ninjas, per Inside the Magic. The female turtle also took over a pivotal role in the TMNT universe - the vigilante. Now, she has been given her own side-series - titled Nightwatcher - which was recently released. In it, Jennika leads the charge as she tries to protect Mutant Town - a part of New York where human-born mutants live in fear - against enemies. Her sexuality was first revealed in issue #117 of the comic, back in June 2021, but it has now been thrust into the spotlight in the new miniseries. In the original comic, Jennika's bisexuality is revealed through her growing connection with Sheena Murphy - a female human-born mutant pig from Mutant Town. Sheena is in a band called After the bomb with other mutant members, according to Fandom. The two bond over their love of music and their relationship slowly develops into something romantic. Though the moment is subtle, it marked a significant shift, making Jennika the first turtle in the franchise to be openly queer. Jennika had previously dated Casey Jones (a human) and Silas (a homeless mutant) in the TMNT world. Fans have had mixed reviews on the character, with some praising her addition. 'I think she's fine. I don't really like having five turtles, but Jennika isn't too bad,' someone on Reddit wrote, in part. 'I really like how her bisexuality was portrayed as a bisexual myself - acknowledged and decently developed, but it wasn't made a huge deal, which I really appreciate.' However, another user said they didn't like how she was portrayed and styled. 'I'm not a fan of Jennika as a Ninja Turtle. Especially one that, stylistically, to this point looks just like the other Turtles,' they shared. 'The yellow bandana is too close to Michelangelo's orange, and it creates a little bit of confusion for me there when I'm reading.' They added: 'I like the Jennika (human) character a lot. And the entire arc leading up to her mutation was fantastic. 'But, a big part of me hopes she eventually returns to her human form. I doubt that's gonna happen. But I'll keep reading to see where her story goes.' Jennika's character has been largely shaped by Sophie Campbell, the former writer and artist behind the IDW series. Campbell, a transgender woman, has spoken about her desire to bring authentic representation to the comics through characters of various identities and experiences. Following her exit after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Road to 150 in 2024, Marvel Comics and DC Comics writer Jason Aaron took over at IDW, per Inside the Magic.
