Excise dept. crackdown on adulterated liquor ahead of Bonalu
Excise Deputy Commissioner P. Dasarath, during a review meeting held on Monday, stressed the need for intensified inspections and swift resolution of pending cases. He directed officials to maintain heightened vigilance during Bonalu, where liquor consumption traditionally spikes, and ordered that NDPL and spurious liquor be strictly barred from reaching the public.
'There is a growing influx of liquor from Delhi and Haryana into Hyderabad and Rangareddy. Our teams must monitor this closely and take immediate action against illegal movement and usage, particularly at public gatherings and functions,' Deputy Commissioner Dasarath said.
Emphasising the importance of eliminating NDPL to meet State-mandated sales targets, the Deputy Commissioner instructed enforcement teams, station staff, and DTF units to intensify on-ground checks and coordinate with licenced vendors. He also called for greater stock preparedness by legal liquor traders in anticipation of increased demand during the festival period.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed excise stations to expedite legal proceedings, including charge sheet filings, arrest of absconding accused, disposal of seized vehicles, and the closure of long-pending cases.
Present at the review meeting were Assistant Commissioner R. Kishan, along with Excise Superintendents K. Vijay (Malkajgiri), NK Fayazuddin (Medchal), Ujwala Reddy (Saroornagar), and Vijaya Bhaskar Goud (Vikarabad), as well as Assistant Excise Superintendents, Circle Inspectors, and members from the Enforcement and DTF wings.

No mercy for those who abuse kids: CM Revanth
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Saturday that abuse of children on social media must be dealt with strictly, and offenders should not be shown any leniency. He stated that his government was prepared to take all necessary steps to ensure justice and compassion for children, not only in courts but also at police stations, child centres and at every stage of the process. Addressing the inaugural session of the State-Level Stakeholders' Consultation Meet – 2025 on Voice for the Voiceless: Rights and Protection of Children of Sexual Abuse, the chief minister said the POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Act were progressive legal instruments, but they present challenges. 'We must ensure procedures help child victims, not hurt them. We must also work to end child pornography and impose strict punishments,' the chief minister said. Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant said the child protection framework in the country remains fragmented and inadequately equipped. He called for a shift in approach, one that treats the child not as a passive witness in a criminal trial but as a person in need of sustained and holistic care. 'The work is far from complete until children experience meaningful restorative justice, where the systems meant to protect them do not retraumatise them,' he said. Justice Surya Kant stressed that the system should prioritise the healing of children both within and outside the courtroom while ensuring accountability. He added that justice for a child begins not in the courtroom but the moment the child feels safe and secure in their environment. Reintegration, the judge said, should be the foundation of the response, not an afterthought.

Mastermind Of Religious Conversion Gang, Aide Arrested In Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested the alleged mastermind of a religious conversion gang along with his aide. Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba and co-accused Neetu alias Nasreen are residents of Madhpur in Balrampur district, an official statement said on Saturday. A non-bailable warrant had been issued by a court against Jalaluddin, while the police declared a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest, it said. The duo was produced before a court and subsequently sent to Lucknow District Jail after their remand was obtained. The case, registered at a police station in Gomtinagar, Lucknow, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, alleges that the accused acted in an organised manner to convert individuals from Hindu and non-Muslim communities to Islam. "The poor, helpless labourers, weaker sections, and widowed women were lured with incentives, financial aid, promises of marriage, or forced through intimidation, in violation of established procedures for religious conversion by the accused," according to the statement. Two other accused -- Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Mehboob, who is Jalaluddin's son -- were arrested on April 8. Both hail from Balrampur and are currently lodged in Lucknow District Jail, the statement said.
