TELUK INTAN - The Magistrate's Court here today issued an arrest warrant for the owner of a lorry company involved in a fatal accident involving nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) on May 13.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan filed the arrest warrant application after the individual failed to appear for today's proceedings on two charges, namely under Section 57 and Section 58 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman then set July 29 for mention of the arrest warrant.
It is understood that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has also sent a summons to the owner of the company to appear in court for today's prosecution proceedings.
In the incident at 8.54 am on May 13, nine members of FRU Unit 5 based in Sungai Senam, Ipoh died after the truck they were travelling in collided with a lorry loaded with gravel.
On May 30, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) announced that it had revoked the operating licence of Tashveen Trading, the lorry company that carried the gravel load, effective May 29, 2025.
The lorry operating company was found to have failed to comply with the requirements of the Industrial Safety Code of Practice (ICOP), failed to ensure that the Global Positioning System (GPS) was functional and had expired, in addition to carrying a load that did not comply with the type of goods specified in the vehicle permit. - BERNAMA

Married couple charged with drug trafficking in Sibu court
SIBU: A married couple faced multiple drug trafficking charges in the Magistrate's Court here today. Tie Teck Hock, 52, was initially charged with trafficking 1,030.80 grammes of methamphetamine outside a food outlet at Jalan Pedada around 10 pm on June 12. He nodded in understanding when the charge was read by a court interpreter before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern. Subsequently, Tie and his wife, Lee Chee Fei, 45, were jointly charged with trafficking 6,055.90 grammes of methamphetamine found in a house at Jalan Permai Jaya 9D1B1 at 10.45 pm the same day. They were charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The couple were also jointly charged with possession of 2,078.90 grammes of ketamine and 2,022.15 grammes of nimetazepam at the same location, time and date. The charges were brought under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000, or imprisonment for a maximum of five years, or both, upon conviction. Both the accused indicated they understood the charges, but no plea was recorded. Tie was previously released on police bail on June 26 following the expiry of his seven-day remand, but was subsequently rearrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. Lee was also released on police bail on June 24 after her four-day remand ended, but was similarly rearrested under the same Act. The court fixed Aug 22 for further mention of the cases pending the chemist's report. No bail was granted to either accused. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Reena Chong represented the couple.

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was jailed 12 months by the Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday for assaulting his elder sister during a domestic dispute at their home. Ridzuan Roslan, 29, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali to voluntarily causing hurt to Normala Roslan, 48, on April 27, this year, at 1pm in a unit at Cyber City Apartment Phase 2. The charge under Section 323, read with Section 326A of the Penal Code, carries up to one year in jail, a fine, whipping, or any two of these, and under Section 326A, the sentence can be doubled if the victim is a spouse, ex-spouse, child, disabled adult, or other family member. In passing the sentence, Wan Farrah said family members should be protected, not harmed, and believed a deterrent sentence was necessary to teach Ridzuan a lesson. Earlier, the prosecution in tendering the facts of the case informed the court that on the said day, the dispute began when the victim, told Ridzuan, her younger brother, to stop shouting inside the house. Ridzuan reacted aggressively by punching the victim on the right side of her head, choking her, and slamming her left arm against a metal grille door, said the prosecution, adding that the victim sustained bruises and injuries as a result of the attack. A police report was lodged following the incident, and Ridzuan was arrested. Unrepresented, Ridzuan requested a lenient sentence, saying that he is unemployed and single. Meanwhile, two women were fined a total of RM2,600 for engaging in illegal online gambling activities. Nor Sada and Murni Muis pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to the charges against them, respectively. Nor Sada, 41, was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,400, or one month in jail for engaging in an online gambling session using a handphone in public on Nov 9, last year, at 5.30pm, outside a premises at Industrial Point Mile 5, Jalan Tuaran.
