China Launches World's First Pure-Ammonia-Fueled Ship 'Anhui'

Nada Mustafa
China's "Anhui" ship recently completed its maiden trial voyage in Hefei, Anhui Province, marking a world first as the only ship powered entirely by pure ammonia fuel.
Developed independently through Chinese innovation, the vessel represents a major step forward in green maritime technology and offers a promising low-carbon travel solution for the global shipping industry.
The "Anhui" can carry up to 50 tons of cargo at full capacity and reaches a maximum speed of 10 knots per hour. It is equipped with an advanced energy system.
During sea trials, the vessel demonstrated stable ammonia combustion while nearly eliminating carbon dioxide emissions. It also successfully controlled the release of other harmful pollutants, effectively meeting environmental protection targets.
This achievement is the result of more than two years of continuous effort. Chinese engineers overcame several technical challenges, including ammonia ignition, maintaining combustion stability, and ensuring the safe handling of the fuel. These breakthroughs pave the way for the broader application of this innovative green energy in practical, everyday use.
As China continues to pursue its goals of carbon neutrality and emission reduction amid global climate challenges, the inaugural voyage of "Anhui" marks a significant milestone in the country's green technology journey. It also sends a positive signal to the international community about advancing green energy exploration and tackling climate change.

Trump says hopes for Gaza ceasefire 'sometime next week' - War on Gaza

The United States is pushing for a truce in Gaza by "sometime next week," US President Donald Trump said Tuesday. The Republican leader was asked by reporters if a ceasefire in the devastating war between Israel and Palestinians could be in place before a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House, set for July 7. "We hope it's going to happen, and we're looking for it to happen sometime next week," Trump responded as he departed Washington for Florida. The swift resolution of Israel's 12-day war with Iran has revived hopes for a halt to the fighting in Gaza, where more than 20 months of combat have created dire humanitarian conditions for the population of more than two million. Trump has previously urged Israel to "make the deal in Gaza," but on the ground, Israel has continued to pursue its offensive across the Palestinian territory. Nasser Medical Complex revealed the deaths of five martyrs, including two children, as a result of an Israeli bombing of a tent housing displaced persons in the Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis. Separately, US President Donald Trump told reporters that he expects a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to be reached within the next week, stressing the importance of recovering all hostages held in the Strip. Trump confirmed that he will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next Monday at the White House to discuss several important regional issues, most notably the Iranian nuclear issue and developments in Gaza. Regarding the regional situation, he explained that the strike targeting Iranian nuclear sites was precise and excellent, noting that the upcoming meeting with Netanyahu will also address the remarkable and astonishing success achieved in the Iran file. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence"

UN says Iran aid budget will need to double after war - Region

The most senior UN official in Iran said Tuesday the organization's humanitarian and development aid budget to the country would need to be doubled following the war with Israel. Stefan Priesner, the UN resident coordinator in Iran, said he hoped the international community would step up with more funding. "We are now doing the budgeting" for 2025, he told a press briefing in Geneva. "It's a significant increase," he said. "It's a bit early to say how much we exactly need. But we certainly would expect a doubling of the funding." He said that last year's UN budget for development and humanitarian affairs in Iran was $75 million -- roughly $50 million for refugees and $25 million for the development programme. Iran hosts the largest number of refugees in the world -- around 3.5 million -- most of them from Afghanistan. Speaking from Tehran, Priesner said he hoped aid and development would be seen as separate from other issues and the situation would trigger the international community to increase its support. On June 13, Israel launched a major bombing campaign against Iran, killing top military commanders and nuclear scientists. The Israeli strikes hit military bases, nuclear sites and residential areas across Iran. Iran retaliated with waves of missiles and drone strikes, hitting cities in Israel. A ceasefire took effect on June 24. Priesner said that in 2022, the UN and the Iranian government agreed a five-year programme on public health, socio-economic resilience, environmental protection, disaster reduction and management, and drug control. The UN is now in talks with Tehran on "how to adapt the programme to meet emerging needs" following the conflict with Israel. Priesner indicated that the UN normally has 50 international staff in Iran and about 500 local staff. Although some employees and their families had to leave their homes when Israel's bombardment began, he said normal operations had resumed on Sunday.
