
No mechanical, maintenance issues found in AI-171 crashed plane: Air India CEO on probe report
Addressing Air India's employees in a mail, Campbell Wilson emphasised that the report did not identify cause nor make any recommendations for the June 12 crash of Air India's Boeing 787-8 plane crash in which 260 people were killed.
He further said that the Air India will continue to co-operate with the AAIB for a thorough and comprehensive enquiry.
'I suggest we note that the Preliminary Report found no mechanical or maintenance issues with the aircraft or engines, and that all mandatory maintenance tasks had been completed. There was no issue with the quality of fuel and no abnormality with the take-off roll. The pilots had passed their mandatory pre-flight breathalyser and there were no observations pertaining to their medical status,' Wilson said in the mail.
'The Preliminary Report identified no cause nor made any recommendations, so I urge everyone to avoid drawing premature conclusions as the investigation is far from over. We will continue to co-operate with the investigators to ensure they have everything they need to conduct a thorough and comprehensive enquiry,' the Air India CEO said.
Wilson also emphasised that every Air India's Boeing 787 aircraft has been checked and was found fit for service. He further added that airlines will continue to perform all necessary checks,
'I would also remind that, out of an abundance of caution and under the oversight of the DGCA, every Boeing 787 aircraft operating in our fleet was checked within days of the accident and all were found fit for service. We continue to perform all necessary checks, as we will any new ones that authorities may suggest.' Air India CEO said.
Campbell Wilson advised his employees to remain focused amid the 'speculations and sensational headlines' that came after the report.
'Until a final report or cause is tabled there will no doubt be new rounds of speculation and more sensational headlines. We must nevertheless remain focused on our task and be true to the values that have powered Air India's transformation journey over the past three years - integrity, excellence, customer focus, innovation and teamwork. Let us not be diverted from what are our top priorities: standing by the bereaved and those injured, working together as a team, and delivering a safe and reliable air travel experience to our customers around the world,' he said.
The AAIB's Preliminary Report released on Friday said that both the engines of the aircraft were moved from 'run' to 'cutoff,' in quick succession, which resulted in the fuel supply to be cut off. The report says that in the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why he did the cutoff, which the other pilot denied ever doing so.
'The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded airspeed of 180 Knots IAS at about 08:08:42 UTC and immediately thereafter, the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec. The Engine N1 and N2 began to decrease from their take-off values as the fuel supply to the engines was cut off,' the preliminary report said.
'In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so,' the report added.
As per the Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) accessed by the AAIB, the engine 1's fuel cut switch transitioned from 'cutoff' to 'run' at about 8:08:52 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). On 8:08:56 UTC the Engine 2's fuel switch also went from 'cutoff' to run'.
The AI 171 crash of the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft in Ahmedabad, Gujarat killed 260 people, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground. (ANI)

"Fueling Putin's war machine": US Senators say penalise India, China, Brazil with 500% tarriff to deter trade with Russia
Washington DC [US], July 15 (ANI): Amid US President Donald Trump call for imposing 100 per cent 'secondary tariffs' on Moscow if Russian President Vladimir Putin fails to end the conflict in Ukraine within 50 days, Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal have warned countries, including India, of economic sanctions if they continue business with Russia. South Carolina Republican Senator Graham and Democratic Senator Bluementhal are leading 85 cosponsors on a bipartisan bill they introduced in Congress earlier this year calling for implementing sanctions on Moscow, which they say could be a 'sledgehammer' President Trump needs to end the conflict. 'We'll continue to push for Senator Graham & my Russia Sanctions bill with even tougher penalties to deter India, China, Brazil & others from fueling Putin's war machine. Congressional action sends a powerful message of support,' Richard Bluementhal said in a post on his social media handle X. As per a joint statement by Graham and Blumenthal, China, India, and Brazil and other nations 'that prop up Putin's war machine' by purchasing 'cheap Russian oil and gas', which that claim is fuelling Putin's effort in the conflict with Russia. Addressing a press conference, Jaishankar had stated that India's concerns and interests on energy and security have been made conversant to Graham. When asked about US plans to impose a 500 per cent tariff on the import of Russian oil, Jaishankar said, 'Regarding Senator Lindsey Graham's bill, any development which is happening in the US Congress is of interest to us if it impacts our interest or could impact our interest. CPI inflation in July likely to hit historical low, FY26 to be at 3% below RBI estimate of 3.7%: SBI
New Delhi [India], July 15 (ANI): India's retail inflation is expected to reach a record low in July 2025, with the average inflation for the financial year 2025-26 projected to be significantly lower than the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) estimate, according to a report by the State Bank of India (SBI). 'We believe that the upcoming July 2025 CPI inflation data is set to breach the lowest ever historical print,' the report said. SBI projects that the average CPI inflation for FY26 will be between 3.0-3.2 per cent, which is significantly lower than the RBI's estimate of 3.7 per cent and well below the average of 4.6 per cent recorded in FY25. This sharp moderation in inflation comes on the back of a recent 50 basis points rate cut by the RBI in its June policy. The report noted that with benign inflation expectations in place, the central bank is now focusing on supporting capital formation to ensure more durable and sustained growth. As noted by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in its resolution, the panel remains data-dependent while deciding the future course of monetary policy. The aim is to strike a balance between growth and inflation, the report added. Looking ahead, SBI sees the current inflation trend as firmly benign, even as external trade-related disruptions and unpredictable price movements continue to pose risks. Still, the report hinted at the possibility of another 25 basis points rate cut 'sooner than later' to further support economic growth as global uncertainties make it necessary to build for the future. It stated 'the plot seems to be spiced with a further 25 bps rate cut (sooner than later) to give an adrenaline boost to the economic juggernaut as global developments necessitate us to build today for future'. India's CPI inflation in June 2025 fell to 77-month low at 2.10 per cent, down from 2.82 per cent in May 2025 and 5.08 per cent in June 2024. This decline was largely driven by a sharp fall in food inflation, which also hit a 77-month low of -0.20 per cent. The fall in prices of key food items such as vegetables, pulses, and spices contributed significantly to this decline. However, the report flagged concerns around imported inflation, which continued to rise for the 13th consecutive month in June 2025. Higher gold and silver prices were the main contributors to this increase. The share of imported inflation in the overall CPI build-up rose to 71 per cent in June 2025, up from 50 per cent in May.
