A 35-year-old British woman, who has not been named, tragically died after being knocked down by a car while jogging with her husband in the town of Beaune, eastern France
A British woman has been knocked down and killed abroad while out running with her husband.
Police have taken the driver into custody. The unnamed 35-year-old was jogging in the town of Beaune in eastern France when the tragedy happened on Tuesday at around 8am. Emergency services rushed to the scene and paramedics, arriving 15 minutes later, found her in cardiac arrest. Sadly they were not able to resuscitate her and she died at the scene. A 45-year-old driver of the car is now being questioned by police having been taken into custody, reported local outlet Le Bien Public. The husband of the victim is understood to have been treated for shock but he was not injured.

The Mirror has approached the Foreign Office for comment.
Meanwhile, a British woman died following a powerful gas explosion at a bar in southern Spain, last month.
The 56-year-old was one of two women killed after a gas canister exploded at the Casa Javi bar in San Pedro del Pinatar in Murcia on June 19. The unnamed Brit, who reportedly lived in the area, was going by the weekly market when she was struck by the blast.

Their deaths were confirmed a week later by the local council in a post on X. The other fatal victim was the 38-year-old owner of the bar, a woman of Moroccan origin named Hind, who suffered severe burns.
Both victims had been hospitalised following the incident which saw at least 15 other people injured. Local police, ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene at around 12:23pm local time, following 25 calls from members of the public.
And a tourist from the UK along with her friend have been killed by a charging elephant during a 'sunrise safari walk' in Zambia.

At around 6am local time on Thursday, July 3, the victims, a 68-year-old and a 67-year-old, were attacked by a female elephant that was with a calf at South Luangwa National Park, Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba said.
The two friends had been based at the Big Lagoon Bush Camp and had been enjoying an early morning walk to another part of the camp when the horror incident took place.
Mr Mweemba said: "Two female tourists while taking a safari walk to a crossing point at Luangwa river spotted an elephant with a calf at a distance and diverted about 50m away, but within few minutes after diverting a tea bearer who is usually behind saw the elephant charging at them."

The tea bearer reportedly shouted 'elephants' and as the two women turned around they saw it storming towards them at high speed. In a desperate bid to help the women, the safari guides who were with the group fired shots at the elephant.
While the elephant was hit by the gunshots, the guides were unable to prevent the attack and both women died at the scene, police said.
The pair "had spent four peaceful days immersed in nature's embrace. Their journey was meant to continue - but instead, we remember them for their courage, their curiosity, and their love for life's wild places", a local said.
The bodies of the two women were taken to Mambwe District Hospital for mortuary services, awaiting further details. Their cause of death is yet to be formally confirmed.

Ghislaine Maxwell subpoenaed by Congress over Epstein ahead of Trump team meeting

US Congress's House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has issued a subpoena to Ghislaine Maxwell for a deposition to occur at Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee on August 11. 'The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr Epstein 's cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny,' Comer wrote in a statement. 'While the Justice Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to your and Mr Epstein's cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government's enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of you and Mr Epstein,' he added. It came as a federal judge in Florida denied a Justice Department request to release grand jury transcripts from the investigation of Epstein. The quick denial blocked efforts by the Trump administration to blunt criticism of its handling of files related to the sex offender, who was once a friend of the president. One of Donald Trump's top law officials is set to meet with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell in the next several days. Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, confirmed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will talk directly to the disgraced British socialite. Her lawyer, David Oscar Markus, has been requesting meetings with Trump administration officials and has argued that Maxwell did not receive a fair trial. 'I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully," Markus told the Mirror. "We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.'

Ben Needham's mum Kerry in 'blind panic' after tip-off about missing toddler sighting

A mysterious email has sparked a US police investigation to locate an anonymous tipster who says they saw missing Ben Needham in the 90s being dropped off by a man to 'meet his grandmother' A police force in the US has been helping the Ben Needham inquiry after his mum was sent a 'disturbing' anonymous sighting tip. Kerry Needham, 53, who now lives in Turkey, told how the 'Help Find Ben' website received an email last November about Ben's whereabouts. ‌ But the mum kept the 'viable' information a secret for eight months, as officers from two countries launched a joint investigation. The tipster claims he saw Ben in another country and has been quizzed by detectives in the states. ‌ But now 'frustrated' Kerry, originally from Sheffield, fears the investigation has 'stalled' as she is still waiting for a crucial update eight months on. ‌ Kerry told the Mirror she handed over the original information to South Yorkshire Police who struggled to track the email sender. But eventually US police were able to crack the email and spent three hours quizzing the tipster. The mum does not want to share further information because of the risk to the ongoing investigation but the man claims to have seen Ben in the States in the early 1990s. ‌ 'I don't want to jeopardize the investigation but as far as I'm concerned this information left me feeling overwhelmed, it shook me and I went into a blind panic, because when I started looking at the claim, I could see there was some potential there,' Kerry told The Mirror. "The detail in this email gave me clues to look at and led me to further information about a person of interest, whose name I have come across several times over the years. Now we are waiting for that person to be investigated and that wait has been unbearable.' The email sent had the subject listed as 'Ben needham sighting'. It then said: 'I believe that I saw ben needham around 1991 or 1992 at the… on… He was brought there by... he was being dropped off to an elderly lady… he was meeting his grandmother for the first time.' Some details and addresses have been removed at the request of Kerry. ‌ South Yorkshire Police said: 'We are often contacted by people who believe they may have seen Ben and we follow up on all reasonable lines of enquiry. Earlier this year, we received contact from a man in the US who believes he may have seen Ben. We have asked US authorities to speak with him on our behalf and gather any details. No new lines of enquiry have developed from these conversations at this stage.' On Thursday, Kerry faces the 34th anniversary of her son's disappearance. Ben went missing on July 24, 1991, when he was 21 months old and playing outside a farmhouse his grandfather was renovating on the Greek island of Kos. That day Kerry was working in a nearby hotel as a waitress after joining her parents and two brothers to start a new life overseas. ‌ Since her son vanished Kerry was searched worldwide for Ben, following up thousands of sightings, DNA tests and even trafficking claims. She said: 'Here I am again, spending another anniversary waiting for answers. We've had this information since November and I'm still waiting for this person to be looked into. It is painful and frustrating. South Yorkshire police have been trying to get a response from this overseas police force but we are still waiting for them to give us an update.' The original tip was sent on the evening of November 8th 2024. It was anonymous and claimed Ben was spotted overseas in the early 1990s - but contained 'unusual' information that raised the alarm for Kerry. 'It was a hidden Gmail account and said 'I believe that I saw Ben Needham in 1991 and 1992' - naming an exact location. It went on to say Ben was brought there (by a man) who was dropping him off to 'meet his grandmother for the first time'. For investigative purposes we are unable to name that country at this moment. ‌ 'The email sender has now been interviewed, it took three hours. But as yet we still don't have an update as to how the interview went or a transcript. Investigations are continuing. I try and hope that it is taking so long because it is being looked at thoroughly but the wait is excruciating.' As for the anniversary of her son's disappearance, she told how she will be spending it with her daughter Leighanna, 31 and her two granddaughters aged 11 and seven. 'They keep me busy and distracted at what is the hardest time every year. They are my pride and joy and my reason for living. I can't go down in front of them. I can't allow them to see me in the low points of my life. 'As Leighanna has grown up and watched her blossom, I wonder how Ben would have turned out, what he would have been like as a brother and an uncle. They looked very similar when they were small. I've always got questions in my head. I live in hope one day my questions will be answered and Ben found.' Regarding the anniversary of Ben's disappearance on Thursday, South Yorkshire Police said: 'Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the family of Ben Needham as they mark an incredibly difficult milestone - 34 years since Ben disappeared on the Greek island of Kos. Ben was just 21 months old when he vanished, and the pain of that loss continues to be deeply felt. 'Over the years, our investigation has led us to the conclusion that, on the balance of probabilities, Ben died on the day he went missing. However, we remain absolutely committed to finding the answers that his family so desperately need and deserve. Until those answers are found, our investigation will remain open.'

She has been charged with attempted transit of cannabis and abetting the international trafficking of cannabis, authorities said. A family friend said Cameron had travelled to Thailand on her own and posted a photo of the ocean on her Facebook account just days before her arrest. She could be held for at least four months in a German prison while authorities investigate the origins of the cannabis, sources say. But the next day the family was alerted to her whereabouts in Germany. A hearing will take place in Munich District Court on 6 August. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting a British woman who is detained in Germany and are in contact with her family and the local authorities." In 2024, Germany legalised cannabis for recreational use by adults aged 18 and over. But despite a raft of publicity around the law change two essential points were missed. The law does not extend to tourists or non-residents, including Brits. It's also interpreted differently across all of Germany's 16 federal states. And crucially the unauthorised import of cannabis, even for personal use, is strictly illegal and carries a hefty five years in prison. SPATE OF DRUG ARRESTS It comes after a British couple claiming to be tourists from Thailand were busted with more than 33kg of cannabis in their suitcases at a Spanish airport. The pair were picked out by suspicious cops at Valencia Airport after displaying a 'nervous and evasive attitude' and are now behind bars on drug trafficking charges. 8 She was detained as she tried to collect her luggage at Munich airport 8 She posted a photo of the ocean on her Facebook account just days before her arrest The man and woman, aged 33 and 34, were stopped before reaching customs, with officials later discovering vacuum-packed marijuana and no clothes or personal belongings in their luggage. Cops said the pair will not yet be named but were arrested late on May 5 and hauled to court the next day. Their court appearance, which led to their remand in prison, took place behind-closed-doors as is normal in Spain where only trials are held in public. The two British nationals are not expected to find out for several months now whether they will be formally indicted and face trial. A British OnlyFans model was also caught allegedly smuggling nearly £200,000 worth of Thai cannabis into Spain. Glamorous Clara Wilson, from Huthwaite, Notts, has been charged with a drug running offence after more than 34 kilos of cannabis was found stuffed in her two suitcases. Elsewhere, Brit Bella May Culley, 18, sparked a massive international search operation in early May after she was reported missing while holidaying in Thailand. However, it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia. She was allegedly carrying 30 pounds (14kg) of cannabis into the ex-Soviet nation. Around the same time, 21-year-old Charlotte Lee May, from Coulsdon, south London, was also arrested in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo after police discovered 46 kg of 'Kush' - a synthetic strain of cannabis - in her suitcase. The former flight attendant, facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted, is claiming she had 'no idea' about the drugs worth up to £1.2 million and insisted they must have been planted in her luggage without her knowledge. 8 Brit Charlotte May Lee was arrested in Sri Lanka after allegedly trying to smuggle in drugs 8 Student Bella May Culley was arrested in Georgia after allegedly carrying drugs into the country from Thailand
