Luke Humphries needs X-ray on swollen thumb after darts fan pulls his hand during shock walk-on at US Darts Masters

LUKE HUMPHRIES faces a hospital visit with an injury scare after being yanked back by a fan on a walk-on.
The World No1 was left in pain after the thumb on his throwing hand was pulled back by an overzealous fan during his walk-on at the US Masters in Madison Square Garden.

The bizarre incident took place ahead of 'Cool Hand's' first-round match against Stowe Buntz.
Despite the discomfort, Humphries still managed to win the World Series event after seeing off Nathan Aspinall 8-6 in the final.
But the Cheshire thrower confessed he'll have to get an x-ray as the pain refuses to go away.
He said: 'My thumb is incredibly swollen. It's hard to play through. I was struggling with the grip. I couldn't hold my thumb in the same position.
'I don't want to make it all about that, I've won the title and I don't want it to be about me having an injury, but the guy when he pulled my hand back, he really hurt it.
'I'm going to have to go home and get it x-rayed. I don't think it's broken as it doesn't hurt to squeeze it. I've got a couple of weeks off. Next time I play is two weeks away, so I've got plenty of time.
'It's not broken, that's the main thing, but it's not in good shape, it's incredibly swollen.
'When I was in the final, I said to my family I'm going to give it everything.
'If I injure my hand in the final, I don't care. I tried my best and it was good enough so really pleased. I wasn't at my best but I managed to win.'

Jake Paul plots talks with Anthony Joshua's team in New York with YouTube star ‘adamant' he wants to fight heavyweight

JAKE PAUL will use his week promoting Katie Taylor's trilogy bout with Amanda Serrano to also hold talks over a fight with Anthony Joshua. Serrano - promoted by Paul - takes on Irish icon Taylor on July 11 at Madison Square Garden following her two controversial losses. 4 4 Taylor is also represented by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing - Joshua's long-time promoters. So when Paul & Co stage the historic trilogy fight - talks with Hearn over a shock AJ bout will also be on the agenda. Paul's promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian said: "Anthony Joshua, I think that's the main one that we talked a lot about... "He's adamant that he wants to make that fight happen at the end of 2026 and we're gonna meet with Matchroom while we're in New York to promote the greatest trilogy in the history of boxing." Paul had his first heavyweight fight in November when Mike Tyson controversially came out of retirement aged 58. The YouTuber-turned-boxer won over eight, revised two-minute rounds but admitted the TWO STONE Paul, 28, returned to the 14st 4lb stone limit of 200lb in victory over former middleweight world champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39. And after his ten-round points win he once again opened the door to moving back up to fight Joshua, 35, taking inspiration from Deontay Wilder, 39. Paul said: "I'm definitely not a heavyweight but I'm still gonna take the challenge. Jake Paul faces off with world champ Zurdo Ramirez "But you know, look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215lb. "Granted he's like 6'6 or something but anything is possible and I like the challenge. "People's criticism is fight someone in their prime, who's a beast. I think people just want to see me lose! That's really what the message is behind it all. "And Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We've been DMing back and forth. "He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it's looking very likely for next year." Paul's victory California against Chavez - who won the 160lb title 14 years ago - looks set to land him a world ranking in the WBC and WBA. Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge. We've been DMing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. Jake Paul And he called out world champs Gilberto Ramirez, 34, and Badou Jack, 41. But criticism will remain levelled at Paul having lost to Tyson Fury's brother Tommy via split-decision in 2023. The American hit back to insist he is out to avenge that defeat to Fury, 28, which came only three years after turning pro. He said: "I don't even think I was a fighter then. "I was like two years, two and a half years into the sport and I didn't really know what I was doing. I didn't have the proper team around me, the proper conditioning. "My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of like a YouTuber, celebrity actor, whatever I was at that point. So I wasn't fully focused on boxing. "Like I said, this feels like chapter one's done tonight. Now we're moving into chapter two and I'm just getting warmed up in this sport. "But people hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion and I'm coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy." 4 4

Aldrich Potgieter, 20, wins Rocket Classic in five-hole playoff

June 30 - As a grueling playoff unfolded in the Rocket Classic, South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter was determined to have enough pace on what became the final putt Sunday. Potgieter drained an 18-foot birdie putt on the fifth playoff hole to secure his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club. "Struggled to make putts. Left a lot short," Potgieter said. "Finally got one to the hole." Potgieter outlasted Max Greyserman in an extended playoff that began with three golfers. Chris Kirk's bogey on the second playoff hole cost him a chance and reduced the playoff to two golfers. Potgieter, a big-hitting 20-year-old, began the tournament with a 62 on Thursday and ended up with the biggest prize. He is the youngest South African to win on tour. "Big thanks to my family, friends, coaches, everyone who has been involved to kind of get me to this point," Potgieter said. The trio of Potgieter, Greyserman and Kirk finished 72 holes at 22-under-par 266. "This one is going to sting a little bit," Greyserman said. Potgieter, who became the seventh-youngest PGA Tour winner since 1983, and Greyserman both had birdies on the par-5 14th hole -- the fourth stop in the playoff -- before Potgieter sank the winning putt on the par-3 15th hole. Kirk and Greyserman shot final-round 5-under-par 67s and Potgieter, who was the first- and third-round leader, had 69. Kirk had the best chance on the first playoff hole, but he was off the mark on a birdie putt of slightly more than 9 feet. "It's a shame that first playoff hole," Kirk said. "Hit just three perfect shots and I misread that putt a little bit. That's the way it goes sometimes." Greyserman missed from 11 feet on the second extra hole before Kirk was eliminated with a three-putt bogey moments later. "Just really disappointed right now," Kirk said. "Felt like I played great today. I'm happy with the way I played." Greyserman, ranked 48th in the world entering this week, remains without a PGA Tour victory. He has four runner-up finishes. "Unfortunately, I didn't get the job done," Greyserman said. "Thought I hit a lot of good shots down the stretch. Very pleased with how I handled myself down the stretch." It was a bogey-free round for Greyserman, who missed a birdie putt from just inside 12 feet on the final hole that would have given him the victory. He made birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to rise into a share of the lead. Except for a birdie on No. 17, Kirk posted par on seven of his last eight holes in regulation. It was a crowded leaderboard for the entire day. Michael Thorbjornsen (67) and Jake Knapp (68) shared fourth place at 21 under. Jackson Suber (68) and Colombia's Nico Echavarria (66) tied for sixth at 20 under. By late afternoon, there were 26 golfers within three shots of the lead. After Potgieter and Greyserman made the turn as the final pairing, there were several fewer so close to the top, but still more than a dozen -- with more than half of those golfers still on the course. Echavarria played the final seven holes in 4 under to match his first-round 66. Harry Higgs and Akshay Bhatia had 65s for the best scores of the last round, finishing at 16 under and 15 under, respectively. --Field Level Media
