Hyderabad: BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary actress B. Saroja Devi, calling it a huge loss to the South Indian film industry.
In a statement on Monday, Rao said, 'The news of the death of B. Saroja Devi, who won the hearts of millions with her excellent acting and extraordinary performances in the Telugu film industry and other South Indian languages, is deeply saddening. I express my heartfelt condolences.'
Saroja Devi, widely celebrated as 'Abhinaya Saraswati', acted alongside stalwarts like N.T. Rama Rao (NTR), Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), and Sivaji Ganesan, carving a unique identity for herself over a career that spanned more than four decades. She acted in over 200 films, leaving a lasting impact on Telugu and South Indian cinema.
Rao highlighted her iconic roles in films such as Kitturu Rani Chennamma, Bhukailas, and Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddha, which remain etched in the memory of audiences. He noted that it is a matter of pride for the nation that the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri (1969) and Padma Bhushan (1992) in recognition of her contribution to Indian cinema.
'I pray that her soul rests in peace and offer my condolences to her family and fans during this time of grief,' Rao said.

EPS mortgaged AIADMK to Amit Shah to save kin, says Stalin in Mayiladuthurai

MAYILADUTHURAI: Responding to criticism levelled by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami about the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday said Palaniswami was promoting the very scheme he attempted to criticise. Referring to Sundhara Travels, a comedy film, Stalin said, 'Like smoke coming out of the bus in the film, only rumours and lies come out of Edappadi's mouth.' He was speaking at a government event in Mayiladuthurai, on the second day of his two-day visit in the district. On Palaniswami's repeated claims that people have been 'fooled for a thousand rupees', Stalin countered that it's not the people who are fooled, but Palaniswami himself, by BJP. He also alleged that EPS had 'mortgaged AIADMK' with BJP leader Amit Shah out of selfishness and in order to protect his family members from raid. 'People are not deceived. Only you have been hoodwinked by believing the BJP. You have mortgaged the AIADMK itself with Amit Shah out of your selfishness and in order to save your family members from raid.' Stalin did not elaborate on what he meant by 'raid,' and also, did not specify any specific government agency.

TDP takes U-turn, delinks objections from Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision drive in Bihar

New Delhi: A day after taking a contrarian view on the Election Commission 's Special Intensive Revision (SIR), NDA's key ally Telugu Desam Party delinked its objections from the ongoing SIR exercise in Bihar while underlining that a voter should not be made to run around for inclusion in electoral rolls. TDP, which provides crucial support to the BJP-led NDA with its 16 members of Parliament, followed a nuanced strategy on SIR. The BJP 's regional ally said that its submission to the ECI on SIR was not linked to Bihar and was restricted to Andhra Pradesh. We met ECI officials as part of an ongoing exercise to take the views of political parties on electoral roll revision.' While following coalition dharma, TDP also took a pro-people stand and said, 'Election Commission has been doing exemplary work. But the voter is the focal point. He should not run from pillar to post to ensure his inclusion. We asked ECI that if SIR is initiated, the verification process should be seamless.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Average Cost To Rent A Private Jet May Surprise You (View Prices) Private Jet I Search Ads Learn More Undo On Tuesday, TDP had made a four-page submission to the ECI where it said that the purpose of SIR should be clearly defined and delinked from citizenship verification, wrapped up at least six months before an election and the burden of proof should not be on the voter but the poll body. While it clearly took a pro-people approach, it has delicately tried to balance coalition dharma indicating that it isn't going to upset the alliance dynamics yet. The timing of the nuanced strategy is also important as this comes right ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament. By delinking it from Bihar, TDP does not want to give a stick to the Congress to beat the government with. Live Events TDP national spokesperson Jyothsna Tirunagari, who was also a part of the TDP delegation that met ECI officials, told ET, 'Our submission before ECI had nothing to do with Bihar. Our concerns were largely on duplication of voters in electoral rolls, use of technology to weed out duplication, biometrics in voter identity cards, ensuring migrant labourers get adequate opportunity to enroll and involvement of political workers in electoral roll revision. Our discussion was limited to Andhra Pradesh.' With Bihar SIR clearly weighing on its mind, TDP asked ECI to delink SIR from the citizenship question. With this, TDP has also tried to assure its minority votebase, which is crucial for the regional party. The party also took up the cause of migrant workers. Tirunagari said, 'We flagged that Andhra Pradesh has a huge proportion of migrant workers who move to different districts or other states for work. Ample opportunities should be given to them for enrolment and mobile vans should be deployed to their area of work. We also suggested that booth level agents of political parties should also have training programmes like ECI officials.'

Rajinikanth's ‘Coolie' plot sparks curiosity; Alleged leak reveals time-bending twist

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) With 'Coolie' set for an August 14 release, excitement is sky-high—but now a possible leak has added fuel to the fire. According to a plot summary spotted on the film discovery platform Letterboxd, the film could revolve around an ageing gold smuggler named Deva, played by Rajinikanth, who tries to reunite his old gang using mysterious stolen technology hidden in vintage gold watches. The twist? What starts as a comeback mission soon warps into a chaotic spiral of crime, greed, and time distortion. — bv7386 (@bv7386) A character laced with legacy and risk If the leaked description is to be believed, Rajinikanth's Deva is far from the typical mass hero. He's older, more strategic, and seemingly burdened with the weight of a complex past. The new underworld that emerges seems less like a glorious return and more like a monster of Deva's own making. With anticipation already sky-high, this leak—true or not—has only heightened curiosity around what could be Rajinikanth's most experimental mass entertainer yet. The movie has already created buzz with the unveiling of the song 'Monica' where the actors Soubin Shahir and Pooja Hegde paired together and lit the screens. The two summaries paint vastly different pictures, which only deepens the mystery. As of now, there's been no confirmation or denial from the film's team. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, 'Coolie' boasts a stellar ensemble featuring Aamir Khan in a special appearance, along with Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Satyaraj, Upendra, and Soubin Shahir. On the other hand, Rajinikanth's previous outing was the thriller 'Vettaiyan' which received decent reviews from the audiences. The movie also featured Fahadh Faasil.
