Singapore's Health Ministry grants additional S$25m to boost lung cancer research
Lung cancer researchers in Singapore are working to improve treatment and care outcomes for Asian patients under a fresh S$25 million tranche of funding. The project, known as CLARION, will study methods for better risk prediction, early detection and personalised treatments. It will help researchers at the National Cancer Centre better understand why lung cancer behaves differently in Asian patients, compared to their Western counterparts. More than half of lung cancer patients in Singapore have never smoked in their lives. The disease kills three people each day in the country.

Acute psychiatry services will expand to all healthcare clusters to meet increasing demand and provide greater access for patients. According to the Health Ministry, mental health disorders are among the top leading causes of disease burden in Singapore. Meanwhile, a new practice guide for mental health practitioners was also launched at the Singapore Mental Health Conference. It aims to standardise assessments and referrals based on a patient's symptoms and care needed. The guide will focus on managing depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies. Chloe Teo reports.
