Detective Conan's 28th Anime Film, 'One-Eyed Flashback', To Open In Singapore Sep 2025
That's the picture painted by its opening numbers, at least. The feature clinched the top spot after debuting on 18 April in its home country, earning 3,438,626,700 yen (US$24.15 million / S$30.4 million) in its first three days. It also sold 2,314,690 tickets within the same period, setting a new opening-weekend record for the franchise.
Katsuya Shigehara (unit director of 2023's Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine ) directed a script written by Takeharu Sakurai (various Detective Conan movies), while King Gun performed the theme song, 'Twilight!!!'. Taking place in the snowy mountains of Nagano, the latest entry brings back several familiar faces from the previous films, including Kogoro, whose last major role was in 2005's Strategy Above the Depths .
The translated synopsis of Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback reads (per its official website):
'Mt. Miho in the Yatsugatake mountain range, Nagano Prefecture. While pursuing a 'certain man' in the snowy mountains, Kansuke Yamato, a Nagano Prefectural Police officer, unexpectedly saw a shadow of someone in his field of vision. When he was caught off guard, a rifle bullet fired by 'a man' grazed his left eye, causing an avalanche with a loud earth tremor. The avalanche swallowed him up…
Ten months later. After receiving a report that a researcher at the Nobeyama observatory of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan had been attacked by an unknown assailant, Kansuke, who miraculously survived the avalanche, and Yui Uehara rushed to the scene. During the interview, the giant parabolic antenna of the observatory is set in motion, and suddenly the left eye of the injured and one-eyed Kansuke begins to tingle violently…
That night, the Mori Detective Agency received a call from a detective called 'Wani,' a close colleague of Kogoro's from his days at the Metropolitan Police Department. He said that he was investigating an avalanche that Kansuke was involved in, and that he found Kogoro's name in the case file. Kogoro promised to meet Wani at a later date, and Conan followed him, but as they were on their way to the meeting place, a gunshot suddenly rang out. '
The sleuthing action will take to the big screen in Singapore come September.

Science Saru's 'Ghost in the Shell' Anime Series Boots Up New Logo & First Character Looks
The 1995 sci-fi classic Ghost in the Shell has enjoyed a storied legacy, which means the occasional long wait for new content. In 2026, Science Saru will revisit the familiar tale with a fresh anime project, described as 'the first instalment of a second generation' and the 10th adaptation overall of the original manga. Following an earlier reveal of the trailer and key visual, an updated teaser was unveiled at Anime Expo 2025, featuring the storyboard visuals and concept art of various characters, including protagonist Major Makoto Kusanagi. The previously revealed poster was also shown, this time with a new logo design: The series marks the first anime instalment for the franchise since 2020's Ghost in the Shell: SAC_204 , with a producer on the project stating during the panel that it will stay true to the original manga by Shirow Masamune (via Anime News Network). The creator has given his blessing to The Ghost in the Shell , announcing on social media, 'Considering the shift in production staff, one could even consider this the first instalment of a second generation. The original manga is quite old, so I ask for your understanding on that point (sorry!). That said, I sincerely hope this will once again be an enjoyable visual experience in some form.' Mokochan, assistant director of Dandadan , is making his directorial debut on the series, while acclaimed sci-fi novelist Toh EnJoe ( Space Dandy , Godzilla Singular Point ) serves as a scriptwriter and series composer. Science Saru is joined by Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, and Production I.G. on the production committee. The official synopsis for the anime reads: 'Deep into the twenty-first century, the line between man and machine has been inexorably blurred as humans rely on the enhancement of mechanical implants and robots are upgraded with human tissue. In this rapidly converging landscape, cyborg superagent Major Motoko Kusanagi is charged to track down the craftiest and most dangerous terrorists and cybercriminals, including 'ghost hackers' who are capable of exploiting the human/machine interface and reprogramming humans to become puppets to carry out the hackers' criminal ends.' Of the various adaptations over the years, Mamoru Oshii's original animated feature remains the most popular and acclaimed. The manga was published in 1989, introducing fans to Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist organisation led by Major Mokoto Kusanagi. It spawned four more manga entries, five animated movies, a live-action film adaptation featuring Scarlett Johansson, and four anime series over the years. The World of Masamune Shirow -The Ghost in the Shell and the Path of Creation- exhibition opened in Tokyo on 12 April, and is set to end on 17 August. The Ghost in the Shell boots up in 2026. 'Back to Black' Marisa Abela Joins Chad Stahelski's 'Highlander' Reboot With Henry Cavill
Chad Stahelski's Highlander reboot has added Back to Black star Marisa Abela to its star-studded cast that includes the previously announced Henry Cavill ( Man of Steel, The Witcher ) and Russell Crowe ( The Exorcism , Gladiator ). Photo credit: John Nacion / Getty Images Based on the original Highlander (1986), the new film will be produced by United Artists' (UA) Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, and made for Amazon MGM Studios. 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski's production banner, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, as well as Louise Rosner will also be producing the movie. Michael Finch, who has previously worked on Hitman: Agent 47 (2015) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), will be writing the screenplay. Given that UA has secured the full rights to the 1986 cult classic, there is the potential to develop the new film into a full-blown series, though it remains to be seen whether they will remain true to the source material. Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert in 'Highlander' (1986) The original Highlander (1986) starred Christopher Lambert ( Mortal Kombat , Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance ) in the titular role of the Scottish Highlander, Connor MacLeod, with Sean Connery ( James Bond films) starring opposite him as MacLeod's mentor, Juan Ramirez. The epic wove through past and present-day settings as immortal warriors engaged in a timeless battle to be the last man standing and claim the ultimate Prize. Receiving widespread popularity upon release, the film later spawned sequels, a TV series and gained a cult following. While Cavill has been cast to portray MacLeod and Crowe to portray Ramirez, Abela's role has been described as a new character, a fellow immortal and former love of Cavill's MacLeod. Photo credit: PA WIre Abela has had a couple of recent critically acclaimed roles, including her role as Amy Winehouse in the biographical drama Back to Black (2024), that gained her a nomination for a BAFTA EE Rising Star Award, as well as her role in the banking drama Industry (2020-present) that won her a 2025 BAFTA TV Award. She also had a stellar performance in Steven Soderbergh's Black Bag (2025), stealing scenes from the likes of Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. Though Highlander will undoubtedly be Abela's biggest onscreen role yet, with her repertoire of widely lauded roles, Cavill and Crowe may have some competition to be 'the only one' to watch in the upcoming Highlander film.
