KUCHING (July 11): The Magistrates' Court here today ordered a man with an intellectual disability to undergo a one-month psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Sentosa after he was charged with mischief for allegedly damaging the rear windows of two cars on Jalan Batu Kawa.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan made the order against Bujang Sanusi, 68, after allowing an application from prosecuting officer ASP Arman Ibrahim for the accused to be sent to the hospital for evaluation.
During today's proceedings, Arman also informed the court that Bujang holds a Persons with Disabilities (OKU) card for mental impairment.
Mason then allowed the application and set Aug 11 for further mention of the case.
Earlier, Bujang nodded in acknowledgment when the two charges, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, were read to him, although no plea was recorded.
According to the first charge, he allegedly caused damage to the rear window of a Perodua Axia in front of a Jalan Batu Kawa factory on June 2, 2025, at around 2.20am, resulting in an estimated loss of RM250.
Under the second charge, he is accused of committing mischief by breaking a window of a Toyota Hiace at the roadside near Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, Jalan Batu Kawa on July 5, 2025, at 7.25pm, causing an estimated loss of RM900.
Section 427 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
It was previously reported that police arrested Bujang on July 7, following a public complaint about an individual throwing stones at vehicles and nearby premises.
He was found with several stones, which were seized as evidence. Arman Ibrahim Kuching Magistrates' Court lead Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan

Mall assault: Classmates attacked teen over how he spoke, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: The Form One student assaulted at a Kajang mall was targeted over his classmates' dissatisfaction with his communication and behaviour. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the four 13-year-old students was extended for one more day until tomorrow. "The students were released on police bail today after the documentation and investigation process were completed. "So far, nine witness statements have been taken, including those from the four students who were arrested. "The suspect, a classmate of the victim, was dissatisfied over how the complainant communicated and interacted with classmates," he said when contacted today. Four male students were detained after the victim, who is also a Form One student at a secondary school in Kajang, lodged a police report after being beaten by a classmate at 11am on July 30. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Four teens freed on bail in Kajang assault case

KUALA LUMPUR: Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. - Bernama

Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Also present during the visit were Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Ayob Khan said police are constantly reviewing their standard operating procedures (SOP), including the need for body cameras among field personnel. At the time of the incident, Mohd Nadzri was not wearing a body camera, although he was on patrol with a colleague. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said. Under phase one, a total of 7,648 body cameras have been distributed nationwide. Another 10,000 units are expected to be delivered in the second phase. - Bernama
