Help KZN children's hospice fill their shelves
The Butterfly Palliative Home children's hospice based in Empangeni and Ingwavuma is reaching out for help with supplies for the young 'butterflies' in their care.
They ask the community to help with groceries, essential goods – such as nappies – and basic medicine.
'Please help us fill our shelves and ensure our children have what they need. Every little helps!' requested the NGO on their social media platforms.
Butterfly Home offers end-of-life care for orphaned and abandoned babies, and young children facing terminal illness.
Butterfly Home's flagship facility in Ingwavuma was the first children's hospice in KZN and one of just three in South Africa.
Their newly-opened Empangeni home now makes two in KZN and five in the country.
Community members are welcome to drop off supplies at 1 Eland Crescent, Nyala Park, Empangeni.
For more information, contact Tarryn Bell on 071 2773861 or [email protected]

Vital Aquadene community amenities in disarray

Fed-up with the lack of service delivery in Aquadene and broken promises of upgrading community amenities, angry residents voiced their concerns during a recent public meeting. ALSO READ: 'We need homes!' – Aquadene residents urge The meeting, which was held in a tent in an open public space, was itself condemned by the community, who said it was unacceptable to expect residents to keep attending meetings in a tent when there is a community hall that has been awaiting repairs for almost a decade… Read the full story in the ZO Monday edition, out on the shelves and on the ZO app! ‘Pawsome' way to spend Mandela Day

RICHARDS Bay SPCA is calling on animal lovers to 'pawse' their day and spend 67 minutes with the animals in their care this Mandela Day on Friday, 18 July. '67 minutes may not seem like much, but for an animal, it could be the most love and attention they've ever received in their life,' said SPCA chairperson Engela Hamman. ALSO READ: Calling all handymen and women! The 67 minutes on Mandela Day represent the 67 years Nelson Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality and freedom. Why not unleash some 'ulti-mutt' kindness on the voiceless animals who wait patiently for their 'furever' homes? 'Bring a chair, blanket or cushion and spend your 67 minutes with the animals in our kennels. Bring a toy, a treat, or just your time and love – spoil them with cuddles, care, and kindness. 'Let's fill every kennel with a human heart this Mandela Day and give hope to those still waiting for their forever homes,' said Hamman. Whether it's belly rubs, gentle words or tasty treats, your time can bring 'pawsitivity' to an animal waiting to be loved. Don't have the ZO app?
