The next James Bond movie just found its director
Oscar-nominated Denis Villeneuve will direct the next "James Bond" film, Amazon MGM Studios has announced.
Amazon announced Wednesday, June 25, that the "Dune" director will helm the film – the first under Amazon MGM Studios. The news comes four months after Amazon took creative control of the Bond franchise as part of an agreement with longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who will focus on "other projects" going forward.
"I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility," Villeneuve said in a statement.
Villeneuve is the Canadian film director and writer behind critically acclaimed films like "Sicario," "Dune," "Dune: Part Two," "Blade Runner 2049" and "Arrival."
He was nominated for best director at the 2017 Oscars for sci-fi film "Arrival," which starred Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and for best adapted screenplay for "Dune," based on author Frank Herbert's highly acclaimed 1965 novel of the same name, at the 2022 Oscars.

Just after news of the Amazon deal was announced, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos asked followers on X, "Who'd you pick as the next Bond?"
The longest-running movie series has yet to name a new lead actor following Daniel Craig's final outing as 007 in "No Time to Die" in 2021, which earned nearly $800 million at the global box office.
Amazon MGM Studios has not revealed when the next Bond movie will be released.

Amazon MGM Studios, Wilson and Broccoli remain co-owners of the franchise.
The creative takeover marked the end of an era for Bond, a franchise that Broccoli and her half-brother Wilson have controlled since 1995. The film series began with 1962's "Dr. No" under the stewardship of Albert R. Broccoli, Barbara's father, and Harry Saltzman.
Amazon gained the rights to distribute the Bond films after acquiring MGM in 2022, the year after "No Time to Die," though Wilson and Broccoli retained creative control. The deal could also open the door for Amazon to expand Bond into new areas, such as spinoff films and streaming shows. The company previously released "007: Road to a Million," a reality competition show based on the world of Bond, in 2023.

From 'My Mom Jayne' to 'The Woman in the Yard,' 10 movies to stream right now

There are theatrical releases finally coming home, including a Looney Tunes animated comedy and a sci-fi horror flick set in deep space, plus original fare like the debut from Steven Spielberg's filmmaking daughter. Here are 10 new and notable movies you can stream right now: 'Ash' A trippy paranoia space thriller that turns into a gonzo gore-fest. Eiza González plays an astronaut who wakes up on an alien planet, not knowing who she is but seeing a bunch of dead crew members around, and she needs to figure out if her rescuer (Aaron Paul) is on the level or not. Where to watch: Shudder 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' Who better to stave off an alien invasion than ... wait, what? Daffy Duck and Porky Pig?! The adventure centers on misfits stuck in a fantasy world that makes the most of their creativity, with an unhinged Jack Black singing about lava chicken and a hilariously macho Jason Momoa gamely taking the brunt of the gags. Where to watch: Max 'My Mom Jayne' We knew Mariska Hargitay was one of TV's top cops. What we didn't realize is she's also a gifted documentarian. Hargitay was just 3 when her movie star mom, Jayne Mansfield, died, and the film is her way to figure out who Mansfield was. The documentary disconnects the sex symbol from the real person while also revealing the biological father Hargitay kept a secret. Where to watch: Max 'Nosferatu' Do you live for Prime Day and gothic thrillers with weird romance and bloodsuckers? Director Robert Eggers' remake of the horror classic finally comes to Amazon, with Lily-Rose Depp as a woman who's the obsession of an undead mustached menace (Bill Skarsgård). Where to watch: Prime Video 'Please Don't Feed the Children' With her first feature film, director Destry Allyn Spielberg – yes, the daughter of that Spielberg – creates an intense world where a pandemic has stricken adults instead of kids and teens on the run are taken in by a stranger (Michelle Dockery). Then Spielberg shows her true mettle by pulling off a twist that proudly goes full horror. Where to watch: Tubi 'Sally' While this revealing documentary about Sally Ride obviously touches on her being the first American woman in space, it's more interested in getting into her personal life. The movie digs into her tennis roots, the misogyny she dealt with regularly at NASA, and the lesbian romance she kept private for 27 years because she knew it wouldn't be accepted. Where to watch: Disney+, Hulu 'The Woman in the Yard' Danielle Deadwyler stars as an injured widow and single mother knocked for a loop by tragedy when a mysterious woman in a black veil shows up out of nowhere to haunt her family's yard. It's psychological horror that digs deep into depression and mental health, with a harrowing ending that leaves much up to audience interpretation. Where to watch: Peacock

Henry Golding: Portraying James Bond would be a nightmare
Henry Golding thinks playing James Bond would be a "nightmare". The 38-year-old actor has been widely tipped as one of the candidates to replace Daniel Craig as 007, but Henry acknowledges that the role carries a lot pressure and expectation. He told People: "I think that's every actor's kind of nightmare. But at the same time, [you're] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise." Henry thinks the role of Bond would be more attractive if it didn't carry so much "cultural pressure". The actor - who starred in 2018's Crazy Rich Asians - reflected: "Maybe I'm just a p****. I don't know. But I think I would love it so much more if there wasn't that overhanging cultural pressure." Henry believes the Bond franchise should actually broaden its horizons by adding "more agents" and adopting a more open-minded approach. He said: "Why can't they bring out more agents or more OO's? I think that would be so much more fun, because there just isn't the restraints and the expectation." Henry previously described being linked to the role of Bond as an "honour". However, the actor argued that the world is not yet ready for a non-white Bond. Henry - who was born in Malaysia, but raised in the UK - told Attitude magazine: "It does seem to be a question that always comes up. It was definitely from Crazy Rich Asians, maybe [the scene with] the white suit coming out the park. "I'm Asian and everybody's fighting for a diverse Bond - sorry, white guys." Henry thinks it's "great" that non-white actors are being linked to the role of Bond. And the actor admitted to being flattered to even have been spoken about as a possible candidate for the coveted part. He said: "Isn't it great that we're having that conversation? Isn't it great that people are like, 'Ok, now it's time, why the hell can't we have a black Bond, an Asian Bond, a mixed-race Bond, a non-distinct Bond?' "I don't know ... It's an honour to even be in the conversation."
