Nvidia's Huang hails Chinese AI models as 'world class'
Huang spoke briefly at the opening ceremony of a supply chain expo, one day after the AI giant said it would once again be able to sell its highly popular H20 chips in China.
Billionaire Huang is on his third visit to China this year, days after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, as his firm walks a tightrope between the world's two largest economies, each of which is battling for global dominance in AI and other cutting edge technologies.
Huang is also expected to hold a closed door media event in Beijing later on Wednesday afternoon.
The CEO of the world's most valuable firm told state broadcaster CCTV on Tuesday that the Chinese market is massive, dynamic, and highly innovative, and it's crucial for American companies to establish roots in China.
On Tuesday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the planned resumption of sales of Nvidia's H20 AI chips to China are part of U.S. negotiations on rare earths.
Chinese companies have scrambled to place orders for the chips, which Nvidia would then need to send to the U.S. government for approval, the sources familiar with the matter said. They added that internet giants ByteDance and Tencent are in the process of submitting applications.
ByteDance denied that it is currently submitting applications. Tencent did not respond to a request for comment.
Nvidia has also announced it is developing a new chip for Chinese clients called the RTX Pro GPU that would also be compliant with U.S. export restrictions.

US President Donald Trump has come up with a plan to punish Russia for its war with Ukraine — by making things super expensive for countries that buy oil or goods from Russia. This includes countries like India, China, and Brazil. Trump says he'll put a 100% tariff (which means doubling the price) on things those countries sell to the US if they keep buying from Russia. But he's giving them 50 days before the rule starts — which gives Russia time to keep doing what it's doing. Why does this matter? Because countries like India now buy a lot of oil from Russia — about 40% of their oil. Before the war, it was just 1%! China gets 20% of its oil from Russia. If Trump really adds this tax, both countries might have to change their oil suppliers. The idea behind Trump's plan is to hurt Russia's economy by hitting its biggest moneymaker — oil and gas. Russia earns more than half of its export money from selling fuel. In fact, since the war started, Russia has made almost $1 trillion from selling fossil fuels. But here's the problem: if countries stop buying Russian oil, oil prices might shoot up. That could make life more expensive for everyone — including people in the US. Also, if the US charges more on products from India or China, things like clothes, electronics, and toys might cost more in American stores. And here's where the plan feels unfair: the US is still buying nuclear fuel (called uranium) from Russia! Even when it said it would stop, it gave itself extra time and allowed some companies to keep buying it. And Europe is still buying Russian gas until 2027. So while Trump and other leaders are telling countries like India to stop buying from Russia, they're not stopping completely themselves. That's why this whole thing looks more like politics than true action. India should watch carefully and do what's best for itself — just like everyone else is doing. No confirmation on Russia-India-China trilateral talks: Report
Amid speculation about a possible meeting between Russia, India, and China under the Russia-India-China (RIC) format, news agency ANI, citing sources, clarified that no such meeting has been finalised. They added that not only has a date not been set, but there are also no ongoing at the weekly press briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained the purpose of the RIC platform. "This consultative format is a mechanism where the three countries come and discuss global issues and regional issues of interest to them," Jaiswal he pointed out that any meeting will only happen after the three countries agree on a date and time that suits all of them. "As to when this particular RIC format meeting is going to be held, it is something that will be worked out among the three countries in a mutually convenient manner, and we will let you know as and when that happens at an appropriate time," he SUMMIT TO BE HELD IN DELHI Jaiswal also shared an update on the upcoming India-Russia annual summit. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell pushed back against White House accusations that he "grossly mismanaged" the Fed's $2.5 billion headquarters renovation. Budget chief Russell Vought claimed the project featured "ostentatious" luxuries like VIP dining rooms and marble finishes while running $700 million over budget. In a letter to Vought, Powell stressed the renovation addresses critical safety needs in the 90-year-old building, including removing toxic asbestos and updating dangerous electrical systems. President Trump has called the project "disgraceful" and suggested it could justify firing Powell. "As explained on the Board's public website, we take seriously the responsibility to be good stewards of public resources as we fulfill the duties given to us by Congress on behalf of the American people," Powell wrote in his letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, according to a Reuters report. 'We have taken great care to ensure the project is carefully overseen since it was first approved by the Board in 2017,' Powell continued.
