Shape up or ship out, CS tells Collectors
Hyderabad: State Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao will now assess the performance of the district Collectors directly every week. The Chief Secretary will hold a video conference every Tuesday and seek a report on the implementation of the schemes. He will also take a call if the Collectors failed to perform up to the expectations.
In a video conference on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary explained to the Collectors about the state government's priorities and the expeditious implementation of the schemes. He reviewed the progress of Vana Mahotsavam, Indiramma housing scheme, availability of fertilizers, Oil Palm expansion, Bhu Bharathi, seasonal illnesses, TB Mukt Bharat and medical colleges requirements, etc.
Ramakrishna Rao exhorted the Collectors to think innovatively to make a lasting impact in the lives of the people.
He said that there is a tremendous scope for the Collectors to take up the development and welfare programmes of the government in their districts, which will go a long way in the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. He said that hereafter, a video conference will be held every Tuesday.
The Chief Secretary asked the Collectors to review the progress of Indiramma houses and issue sanction proceedings. They should also ensure that all the sanctioned houses are grounded immediately. Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao told the district collectors that sufficient quantities of fertilizer stocks are available; therefore Collectors have to ensure that no panic buying or hoarding should take place anywhere in the state. The special officers should visit the fertilizer dealers in their respective districts and take stock of the situation, he said. On oil palm, he asked the Collectors to identify large areas in their districts to take up oil palm plantations.
The Chief Secretary informed that more than 8 lakh applications were received during the revenue sadassus held across the state. He asked the Collectors to personally monitor the applications and take steps to dispose of them with a humane approach.
He asked them to be alert on the spread of transmissible illnesses and vector borne diseases due to the onset of the monsoon season. On TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, he asked the District Collectors to prepare a plan of action and also conduct a convergence meeting involving DMHOs, Hospital Superintendents, Red Cross and Indian Medical Association. The Chief Secretary asked the District Collectors to take stock of the requirements of Medical Colleges, especially from HR perspective and take appropriate steps.

Hyderabad: Medak MP Raghunandan Rao has stated that the Congress-led state government is more focused on gaining media attention than on addressing the real issues facing Telangana. Speaking to the media on Friday, he heavily criticised the government for what he termed 'inadequate investigations' into the phone tapping scandal and the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) controversies. He pointed out that the government claims a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to look into a matter that has been ongoing for 18 months, raising concerns that the probe is merely a way to settle scores between the Congress and the BRS. He criticised the SIT for its 'lack of sincerity' and alleged that the government lacks the determination to arrest those who have committed wrongdoings. Raghunandan Rao revealed that phone tapping began during the by-election in Dubbak in 2020. He claimed he filed ten complaints with the then DGP, asserting that the police were listening to his phone calls, but no action was taken. He now alleges that the SIT is sending notices through social media, targeting individuals working at Gandhi Bhavan, who then provide statements suggesting everyone involved is being investigated. He expressed disbelief that his previous letters of complaint have seemingly not reached the SIT. The MP questioned why, despite officials acknowledging the phone tapping, the prime accused, Prabhakar Rao, has not yet been remanded. He asserted that 'the investigation remains incomplete, and they seem to be stalling under the pretence of an ongoing inquiry.' He asked, 'Are the Congress leaders honest?' and claimed that 'unrelated Congress leaders are being called in' to the probe. Expressing doubts about the outcomes of the probe, he stated that the results might ultimately be described as 'Gadida Guddu' , a Telugu idiom for something worthless. He challenged the SIT's sincerity, claiming they are ignoring his case and focusing on the PCC President instead. He further added, 'I have information about who tapped our phones during the Dubbak by-election and when it happened. I am ready to disclose this, but the SIT lacks the courage to reach out. They are politicising this case as they see fit.' The BJP leader also alleged that the Congress government was not committed to bringing to justice those involved in the KLIP corruption case. He charged that the government has allocated 'Indiramma houses' to party members, citing a recent case where a young man committed suicide after being denied land in the Mallannasagar colony. He questioned if this was proper governance, given the government's lack of response to such a tragic incident. Finally, Raghunandan Rao lashed out at the State government for failing to conduct local body elections while blaming the Centre on BC reservations. He said the BJP-led NDA government does not support religion-based reservations, which he claimed is unconstitutional. He suggested that if the Congress removes the 10 per cent of religious-based reservations from its BC reservations bill, the Centre would consider it for a way forward.

TG, AP babus to ‘thrash out' pending issues
Hyderabad: The second meeting of the Chief Secretary-led official committees of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be held soon to resolve long-pending division of assets and bifurcation of institutions under the AP Reorganization Act, 2014. Following the Cabinet decision to expedite the process to mutually resolve the critical issues, Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao began the process of convening the meeting within a month. The first such high-profile meeting was held at Amaravati in December. However, they failed to arrive at a consensus on the division of assets and institutions. Officials said that the Chief Secretary, who has been playing a key role all along, is seemingly focusing on resolving pending issues between the two states. 'The government is planning to hold the second meeting in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and ministers reviewed the status of pending issues in the recently held Cabinet meeting and assigned the Chief Secretary the responsibility of speeding up a meeting with his AP counterpart', officials said. The two states have locked horns over the assets belonging to 23 corporations, including state finance corporation, and power generation and transmission corporations. Apart from the division of assets under Schedules 9 and 10 of the AP Reorganisation Act, pending electricity dues between the two states, inter-state employee transfers, and distribution of professional tax revenues remain unresolved for over a decade now. Sources pointed out that the issue related to Rs 8,000 crore left unallocated in the bank accounts of institutions under Schedules 9 and 10, is yet to be resolved. The ongoing disputes between the two states over power dues would figure prominently during the second meeting of the officials. Andhra Pradesh has been claiming that Rs 3,441 crore is still due for power it supplied to Telangana, while Telangana maintains that Andhra Pradesh owes Rs 17,828 crore to it. Andhra Pradesh will still have to pay Rs 12,940 crore even after adjusting dues to be paid by Telangana to it, Telangana officials contend.

Telangana Minister Konda Surekha calls for target-driven approach to implement Vanamahotsavam programme
HYDERABAD: Environment & Forests Minister Konda Surekha has called for a coordinated and target-driven approach to implement the Vanamahotsavam programme effectively across the state. Speaking during a video conference with district collectors, in the presence of Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, the minister highlighted the importance of identifying vacant government and community lands to carry out large-scale plantations. She directed all departments to actively participate in the programme and emphasised the need for each district to adopt a focused strategy. District collectors were asked to immediately convene meetings of the District Level Monitoring and Consultative Committees to finalise action plans in coordination with all line departments. Paryavaran competition for students launched Meanwhile, Surekha released the poster campaign for the 50-day National Students Paryavaran Competition at her Jubilee Hills residence. The campaign aims to involve students in basic environmental protection activities. Each student will plant and care for one tree, take a tree protection pledge, and tie a rakhi to trees under the Vriksha Rakshabandhan initiative. Trees can also be planted in memory of elders or freedom fighters.
