Vijayawada: Members of the Central TB Division team lauded the efforts of district medical officials and staff in controlling and preventing Tuberculosis (TB), emphasising that proper public awareness is key to curbing the disease. On Wednesday, the Central government's TB Division team visited Vijayawada to assess the on-ground implementation of the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' (TB-Free India Campaign) in the district. Their visit included a stop at the APIIC Colony Urban Primary Health Centre, where they reviewed the progress of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan programme. They inquired about public awareness campaigns, disease diagnosis, distribution of free medicines to patients, and details of preventative measures. Subsequently, the teaminspected the CDST-TB Lab at Siddhartha Medical College, expressing satisfaction with the services provided. District medical officials briefed the central team on the conduct of medical tests, provision of appropriate treatment, and details of nutritional support provided to patients through the Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana scheme. They also shared information regarding the distribution of nutritional kits by Ni-kshay Mitras (supporters). Officials explained that they are taking measures to identify TB patients in every village and provide them with improved treatment. As part of their visit, the Central team interacted with Ni-kshay Mitras. Food kits were distributed to patients receiving treatment, with support from Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Apollo Tyres Healthcare Centre. The team also engaged with TB champions and felicitated them with medals. Central team members Dr Bhawani Singh Kushwaha, Dr D Dharmarao, and Gangadhar Das, alongside State TB Officer Dr T Ramesh and District Medical and Health Officer Dr M Suhasini, Secretary of Vasavya Mahila Mandali G Rashmi and others participated.

Members of the Central Tuberculosis (TB) Division visited Vijayawada on Wednesday, to review field-level implementation of the the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district. The team commended the district and medical officers for their efforts in raising awareness about the prevention and control of tuberculosis. They visited the APIIC Colony Urban Primary Health Centre and reviewed the implementation of the Central programme. At the clinic they inquired about the awareness programmes being held, diagnosis of the disease, free medicines being given to patients, and preventive measures being taken to reduce contracting the disease. Later, they visited the TB lab at Siddhartha Medical College and inquired about the services there. The medical officers briefed them on the medical examinations conducted, treatment given, and nutritional food provided to patients through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana scheme. Officials added that steps are being taken to identify tuberculosis patients through village-level outreach. The diagnosed are being put on immediate treatment and provided with nutritional food.

2nd phase of TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched across state

The state Public Health department has rolled out the second phase of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Tuberculosis-Free India Campaign) across all districts. The campaign will continue till December 31. The decision to have a second phase was taken after the success of the first phase from December 7, 2024 to March 24, 2025, during which 3.40 crore population was covered. Based on this mapping, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and community engagement activities will be conducted. (REPRESENTATIVE PIC) In Pune, the second phase was launched last week by the civic body. Dr Prashant Bothe, city TB officer, Pune Municipal Corporation, said, 'We have identified a target population of over 6 lakh people who will be screened under the campaign. The screening started last week and the majority of the target population includes slum dwellers, migrants, and close contacts of TB patients.' Dr Sandeep Sangale, state joint director (TB and leprosy), said that in those districts and municipal corporations where the campaign was implemented in the first phase, only the high-risk population will be screened. 'In newly-included districts, too, the teams will map high-risk areas and populations as per the central guidelines. Based on this mapping, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and community engagement activities will be conducted,' he said. Dr Bothe added that besides the high-risk population, the target population also includes individuals over 60, those with a disease history, smokers, diabetics, malnourished individuals, those living with HIV, and other such vulnerable groups. 'We have floated tenders to appoint more teams, ambulances and X-ray machines for the campaign. Screening will be done through X-ray and NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test,' he said.

Konda: Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy stated that both Central and State governments are working diligently to prevent tuberculosis (TB). The Minister participated in the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan rally held at Turpunayudu Palem in Prakasam district on Tuesday. During the event, the Minister, along with officials, took a pledge for TB prevention. Speaking at the occasion, the minister emphasised the collaborative efforts between the Central and State governments in TB prevention initiatives. Declaring that 'Everyone must strive to completely eradicate TB,' the Minister stressed that TB elimination requires coordinated efforts from all sections of society. He informed that free TB testing and medicines are available at all government hospitals. He urged people to immediately visit the nearest hospital for testing if they experience any TB symptoms. Minister Swamy said that 'Healthy Andhra Pradesh' is Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's goal, and the coalition government is working accordingly to achieve this vision.

Hyderabad: State Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao will now assess the performance of the district Collectors directly every week. The Chief Secretary will hold a video conference every Tuesday and seek a report on the implementation of the schemes. He will also take a call if the Collectors failed to perform up to the expectations. In a video conference on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary explained to the Collectors about the state government's priorities and the expeditious implementation of the schemes. He reviewed the progress of Vana Mahotsavam, Indiramma housing scheme, availability of fertilizers, Oil Palm expansion, Bhu Bharathi, seasonal illnesses, TB Mukt Bharat and medical colleges requirements, etc. Ramakrishna Rao exhorted the Collectors to think innovatively to make a lasting impact in the lives of the people. He said that there is a tremendous scope for the Collectors to take up the development and welfare programmes of the government in their districts, which will go a long way in the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. He said that hereafter, a video conference will be held every Tuesday. The Chief Secretary asked the Collectors to review the progress of Indiramma houses and issue sanction proceedings. They should also ensure that all the sanctioned houses are grounded immediately. Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao told the district collectors that sufficient quantities of fertilizer stocks are available; therefore Collectors have to ensure that no panic buying or hoarding should take place anywhere in the state. The special officers should visit the fertilizer dealers in their respective districts and take stock of the situation, he said. On oil palm, he asked the Collectors to identify large areas in their districts to take up oil palm plantations. The Chief Secretary informed that more than 8 lakh applications were received during the revenue sadassus held across the state. He asked the Collectors to personally monitor the applications and take steps to dispose of them with a humane approach. He asked them to be alert on the spread of transmissible illnesses and vector borne diseases due to the onset of the monsoon season. On TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, he asked the District Collectors to prepare a plan of action and also conduct a convergence meeting involving DMHOs, Hospital Superintendents, Red Cross and Indian Medical Association. The Chief Secretary asked the District Collectors to take stock of the requirements of Medical Colleges, especially from HR perspective and take appropriate steps.
