London fire crews responded to a blaze in east London on Friday evening.
According to London fire, the structure fire in the 1800 block of Marconi Boulevard was the target of an aggressive response, where firefighters rescued three cats and one dog from the fire. Unfortunately only one cat survived life-saving efforts.
Damages are estimated in excess of $200,000 - although the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, it remains under investigation.

Police said 34-year-old Elston Coutinho is wanted for second-degree murder. The fire broke out at a house near Primrose Court and Fairport Road, north of Finch Avenue, on the afternoon of June 11. When crews arrived, they found a 69-year-old woman dead inside the home. Following an autopsy, her death was ruled a homicide. Police have not released her identity, but Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss confirmed to CP24 on Saturday that the victim is the mother of 34-year-old Sandra Coutinho who was arrested on June 19 and charged her with accessory after the fact to murder. Bortoluss added that Elston is Sandra's husband. Police say there is a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Elston and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact homicide investigators at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or Crime Stoppers anonymously. The cause, origin and circumstances of the fire are under investigation.

RCMP in Halifax have charged a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Eastern Passage, N.S. The man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Tuesday. He faces charges including: five counts of assaulting a peace officer two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose two counts of resisting arrest two counts of mischief one count of failure to comply with an undertaking At approximately 3:35 p.m. on Friday, police responded to a report that a man was attempting to break into a home on Cow Bay Road, according to a Saturday news release. Police said the man returned to a home on Orion Drive and refused to leave when they arrived on the scene. Police asked neighbours to shelter in place, and an RCMP negotiator was brought in to assist with the crisis, the release said. The man allegedly lit a fire inside the residence, prompting police to call fire services to the scene. An RCMP emergency response team arrived, and the man left the home but refused to comply with police instructions, the release said. The man allegedly assaulted officers while resisting arrest. Police used a Taser while detaining and arresting him, it added. Police said the man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by EHS. The investigation is ongoing.
