Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) Three members of a gang allegedly involved in duping people on the pretext of securing government jobs were arrested in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said Wednesday.
They wore fake uniforms resembling those of government departments to appear legitimate.
One such case involved duping a man named Gajendra Singh of Rs 15 lakh in the Pahasu area on the promise of securing him a government job, the officer said.
During the raid, police seized 20 Aadhaar cards, identity documents, posting and appointment letters, photocopies of bank passbooks, 12 fake posting orders, four character certificates, and other forged paperwork used to carry out the scam, he added.

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Tamil Nadu government for implicating more than 2000 persons in cash-for-jobs scam cases involving ex-minister V Senthil Balaji, and sought the details of all the accused and witnesses. Terming the trial in cases involving ex-minister as "rudderless ship", a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi said that had there not been judicial intervention, the "reluctant state" wanted to give a decent burial of cases involving ex-minister Senthil Balaji in the cash-for-job scam case. "With over 2000 accused and 500 witnesses it will be the most populated trial of India. A small courtroom of the trial court will not suffice and a cricket stadium will be needed to even mark the presence of the accused. Several Artificial Intelligence-generated accused will pop up to mark their presence," the bench told senior advocate Gopal Sankaranaryanan, appearing for Y Balaji, representing victims of the scam and opposing the decision for clubbing of the cases. On a prayer for appointment of a special public prosecutor, the bench told senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the state, that when a powerful minister and affluent people are accused in a case, there is a perception that a lone public prosecutor will not be able to do justice. On Tuesday, the top court expressed displeasure over the Tamil Nadu government "attempting to delay" the trial in cases involving Balaji by implicating more than 2,000 people as accused in the alleged cash-for-jobs scam and described the attempt as a "complete fraud on the judicial system". Balaji resigned from the M K Stalin-led state Cabinet on April 27 after being pulled up by the top court. The apex court asked Balaji on April 23 to make a choice "between post and freedom" as it warned him that his bail would be cancelled if he did not step down as a minister. It took exception to the fact that Balaji was reinstated as a minister in the southern state, days after he obtained bail in a money-laundering case related to the alleged cash-for-jobs scam. On September 26, 2024, the top court granted bail to Balaji in a case probed by the Enforcement Directorate. With Balaji spending more than 15 months in jail, the top court had observed that there was no possibility that the trial would be concluded in the near future. Odisha man held for duping minister of Rs 25 lakh
DHENKANAL: Police on Tuesday arrested the man accused of duping Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra of Rs 25 lakh in a fraudulent land deal four years back. The 62-year-old accused, Niranjan Satpathy of Banasingh, was arrested under section 318 (4) of the BNS. IIC of Dhenkanal Town police station Pravat Sahu said during questioning, the accused admitted to receiving the money from Patra in 2021. On July 26, the minister lodged a complaint with police alleging that the accused offered to sell him a plot of land at an affordable price in Dhenkanal town and took Rs 25 lakh as the first instalment. However, Satpathy did not execute the deal and return the money despite repeated requests by Patra. The accused reportedly gave Patra two cheques of Rs 25 lakh which later bounced. Legal notice was served on Satpathy but it failed to yield any result. Efforts were also made to settle the case amicably in January this year but to no avail. Subsequently, the minister decided to approach the police. The IIC said Satpathy was produced in the court on the day.

Youth gets 50-year jail term for sexually abusing minor in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fast track special court in Thiruvananthapuram has sentenced Sujith, 25, from Thiruvallam to 50 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after entering her house and staying there for several days. The judgment was delivered by Judge Anju Meera Birla. The court ordered that the fine amount be given to the survivor. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional one-and-a-half-years in prison. The incident happened on September 6, 2021. The accused entered the girl's room and sexually assaulted her, threatening her to remain silent. He continued to stay inside the house for eight days and repeatedly raped her. The girl did not inform anyone initially as the accused had promised to marry her. Later that month, on the 21st, the accused again entered the girl's house in Nemom. He was spotted by the father and handed over to the police. While out on bail in the case, the accused reportedly abducted the girl, took her to a lodge in Varkala and sexually abused her. A separate trial for this incident has been completed.
