Rajang Port Authority club launches five-month weight loss challenge for members

SIBU (June 21): The Rajang Port Authority Sports and Recreational Club (Raport) on Friday launched a five-month Weight Loss Challenge as part of its renewed commitment to promote health and wellness among its members.
Raport president Hayati Kiprawi announced this during the club's 50th annual general meeting cum annual dinner at Lakis Hall, An-Nur Mosque here.
Speaking to The Borneo Post, Hayati said the idea behind the challenge was 'simple yet impactful'.
'We started by weighing ourselves today during the AGM. Over the next five months, members are free to do whatever it takes, whether it's exercising, eating better, or changing habits, to lose weight.
'Then, we'll have an official weigh-in again to see the results,' she said.
The challenge is open to all Raport members, with no selection or pre-qualification.
Participation is entirely voluntary and self-monitored, although final results will be based on official weight records taken at the start and end of the challenge.
'This isn't about strict tracking or pressure. It's a step toward being healthier. Even I'm joining! It's meant to be fun, and there's a prize for motivation,' she added.
To encourage participation, Raport is offering a RM200 hamper as a prize for the member who achieves the most significant weight loss.
Hayati shared the story of Kelvin Kerry, a young Raport staff member who independently managed to lose 30kg – from 120kg to 90kg – over the past year.
'He wasn't part of any official programme, but his determination was inspiring. We hope he can serve as a mentor figure to others in this challenge,' she said.
With over 80 active members, Raport hopes the programme will inspire collective effort and positive lifestyle changes among its members.
'We don't set a fixed target for weight loss. Whether you lose 3kg or 10kg, it's a win if you feel healthier and more motivated,' she said.
She said beyond the Weight Loss Challenge, Raport has a full calendar of engaging activities lined up for 2025 including a cooking competition, sports tournaments, and even e-gaming events like Mobile Legends, which will be introduced for the first time this year.
'We want to move beyond just participating, we want to win. Whether it's cooking, futsal, badminton or even e-gaming, we're setting targets and aiming to place,' said Hayati.
She also expressed her intention for Raport to be more active and competitive in external tournaments this year and to bring back the winning spirit the club was once known for.
'It's not just about medals. It's about engagement, pride, and building community. We're evolving – with traditional and modern games alike,' she said.
Hayati said as the club celebrates its 50th year, it is confident that these new programmes will not only boost health awareness but also rekindle camaraderie and active participation across its growing membership.
