MSU commit, Texas Tech transfer edge rusher Isaac Smith officially signs with Spartans
Michigan State football has officially added one of its top transfer portal additions.
On3 college football insider Pete Nakos reported on Monday that Texas Tech edge rusher Isaac Smith has officially signed with Michigan State. Smith had committed to Michigan State last week, and he's now reportedly officially heading to East Lansing, Mich. to fill a huge hole on the Spartans' roster.
In 2022, Smith accumulated 14 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack. In 2023, an injury took Smith out of action for the whole season. Coming back in 2024, Smith recorded 31 tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Smith is rated as a three-star transfer prospect in On3's rankings. He holds a rating of 83.82 and is ranked as the No. 183 edge rusher in the On3 2025 transfer portal rankings.
Smith has two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to play an instant role on the Spartans defense -- which struggled last year to put pressure on the quarterback and record sacks.

5-star 2026 Ohio State running back target Savion Hiter announces commitment date
As it stands right now, the Ohio State football team has put together a very good recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, but if we're being honest, it's a little behind where we've seen in past years, especially considering the Buckeyes are coming off a College Football Playoff national championship. And while many programs would love to have the class Ohio State has, there have been some pretty big misses as the program tries to figure out how name, image and likeness, and the House Settlement leading to direct revenue payments will work. The perception is that the Buckeyes have been conservative compared to other teams, and that has seemingly led to some misses on the high-priority targets. But there's another big one in play coming up with five-star running back Savion Hiter, who just announced his commitment date. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Hiter is ranked as the No. 1 running back and ninth overall prospect in the class. He will be making his college choice on August 19, according to an announcement on "X," and he'll be choosing among a final four of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. To be fair, OSU doesn't seem to have the momentum in this race -- though that hasn't seemed to matter this year. Despite being on campus multiple times, the buzz is that it'll come down to Michigan and Tennessee, both of whom have been much more aggressive with NIL money than Ohio State has been. To date, the Buckeyes have just one running back commitment in the class of 2026, three-star Ohio product Favour Akih. It's beginning to look like he'll be the lone back in this class unless there's a surprise with Hiter, or OSU pivots and tries to find a diamond in the rough to round out the class. Texas A&M is reportedly trailing one team in pursuit of 2026 4-star WR
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class features three of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2026 cycle, as four-star Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown have all shut down their recruitment and are expected to seal the deal with the program during Early Signing Day on December 4. However, head coach Mike Elko, OC Collin Klein, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins are looking to land one more elite pass catcher next month. After missing out on four-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, who committed to USC earlier this month, Elko and his staff are eyeing the top route runner in the class, as four-star Mississippi native Jace Mathews will anounce his commitment on August 8, and has narrowed his list to Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Mathews has taken official visits to all four finalists, but it's been unclear who is truly leading heading into next month. On Friday, 247Sports recruiting insider Tom Loy (Subscription Required) provided more clarity, stating that Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and LSU, in that order, are where things stand from an "optimism" standpoint. "After that, Texas A&M seems to have some optimism as well. Not nearly to the level of Auburn, but they are up there. They have done a great job of showing him what a future looks like in College Station, and that has resonated well with him and his family. Coach Wiggins does a tremendous job recruiting the receiver position, and he is very difficult to beat." While Texas A&M is reportedly 1B to Auburn's 1A, 2026 5-star WR Tristen Keys, who is currently committed to LSU, is a candidate to flip to either A&M or Tennessee, which could shake up Mathew's final decision, and if Mathews commits to Auburn, I'd expect Elko and Wiggins to go hard after Keys this fall, especially if Mathews shuts down his recruitment. Still, the Aggies are in a good spot heading into his commitment, and still have a solid chance at pulling off another surprise commitment and solidifying the program's future wide receiver rotation that already looks borderline elite on paper. During his 2024 junior season, Mathews reeled in 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns, and will more than likely play in the slot at the next level. According to 247Sports, Mathews is currently positioned as the 191st-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 27th-ranked wide receiver, and the 9th-ranked prospect in Mississippi. Former Texas A&M Edge officially signs 4-year rookie deal with the Cincinnati Bengals
The drama surrounding former Texas A&M edge Shemar Stewart, who was selected 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is finally over, as ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has announced that Stewart has finally signed his four-year rookie deal with the Franchise, accepting a fully guaranteed $18.97 million contract that includes a $10.4 million signing bonus. Over the last few weeks, one of the craziest rumors regarding Stewart's offseason workouts in Texas A&M's facility involved the former five-star prospect potentially returning to the team for a final season if the Bengals has not come to an agreement, which was swiftly denied by head coach Mike Elko, who was likely in constant communication with his former starter during the entirety of the frustrating process. Stewart's workouts with the Aggies have been beneficial during his time away, but it was absolutely vital for the Bengals' front office to sign him this week, just a couple of days after the start of training camp. The Miami native is in the developmental stage of his NFL career, after recording just 4.5 career sacks in three seasons at Texas A&M. New Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden has his work cut out for him to turn Stewart into a premier pass rusher. At 6'5" and nearly 270 pounds, Stewart is an athletic freak after running a 4.59 40-yard dash, a 1.58 10-yard split, and recording a 40-inch vertical and a 10'11" broad jump at the NFL Combine. These measurements are a huge reason why he was a first-round selection, and, outside of his already established work ethic, is already one of the better rookie run defenders. The drama is over, and we can all be thankful for that.
