Michigan State football has officially added one of its top transfer portal additions.
On3 college football insider Pete Nakos reported on Monday that Texas Tech edge rusher Isaac Smith has officially signed with Michigan State. Smith had committed to Michigan State last week, and he's now reportedly officially heading to East Lansing, Mich. to fill a huge hole on the Spartans' roster.
In 2022, Smith accumulated 14 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack. In 2023, an injury took Smith out of action for the whole season. Coming back in 2024, Smith recorded 31 tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Smith is rated as a three-star transfer prospect in On3's rankings. He holds a rating of 83.82 and is ranked as the No. 183 edge rusher in the On3 2025 transfer portal rankings.
Smith has two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to play an instant role on the Spartans defense -- which struggled last year to put pressure on the quarterback and record sacks.

ESPN: Florida basketball has the roster to repeat as national champions in 2025-26

If you're wondering whether Florida basketball can run it back in 2025-26, ESPN just gave Gator Nation its answer: absolutely. According to ESPN's Jeff Borzello, the Gators have the pieces to become the program's first back-to-back champions since Billy Donovan's 2006-07 squads. Florida head coach Todd Golden received praise for his offseason roster moves, especially the return of Alex Condon, who withdrew from the NBA draft, and the additions of Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee via the transfer portal. Golden, fresh off Florida's first national title in nearly two decades, now has a team that is capable of sustaining the success they garnered a season ago. The Gators' strength lies in how the puzzle fits. Condon and Thomas Haugh bring frontcourt versatility. Reuben Chinyelu defends the rim. Fland and Lee provide a dynamic, athletic backcourt with shot creation and tempo control. Add in Golden's offensive schemes and returning championship DNA, and it's no surprise ESPN slotted the Gators as a team that can make another run for the title. Here is everything Borzello wrote about the Gators and why they have the talent to make another championship run. What ESPN said about Florida basketball "Florida has the talent to make another title run. Before UConn won the national championships in 2023 and 2024, men's college basketball hadn't seen a repeat title winner since Florida in 2006 and 2007 -- but Todd Golden's Gators have the players to make it a trend. Alex Condon withdrew from the NBA draft to return to Florida; Rueben Chinyelu and Thomas Haugh are also back; and top transfers Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee were added in the portal." Boogie Fland recovering from surgery, expected to be back for Florida basketball fall camp

Florida basketball point guard Boogie Fland is on track to return at full strength by the start of fall camp after undergoing sports hernia surgery, head coach Todd Golden announced at a booster event Thursday evening. Fland, a transfer from Arkansas, had the procedure on July 3 and has been held out of summer workouts over the last three weeks. Golden expects him to be back on the court when the fall semester begins in early September. "He'll be back when school starts," Golden said. "He could have played through it, but it made more sense to get it taken care of so he didn't have to worry about it during the season." Fland arrives in Gainesville after averaging 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 21 games last season with the Razorbacks. With Golden's reloaded backcourt, Fland joins Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee and Ohio transfer AJ Brown. The trio is expected to fill the void left by departing guards Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, Will Richard and Denzel Aberdeen, who transferred to Kentucky. With this new group, the Gators are aiming to replicate their 2024 magic, which included a 36-4 record, a 12-game win streak and a dramatic run through March Madness that ended with the program's third national championship. If Fland's recovery stays on track, Gator Nation should expect to see him at full speed by September, ready to be one of the backcourt leaders for the Gators next season. Guardians make trade deadline decision on 2.33 ERA reliever

The Cleveland Guardians are in the middle of a solid stretch of games, rebounding from a rough June. While they remain three games back in the wild card, the Guardians aren't projected to be major sellers like they once were. With under a week until the MLB trade deadline, MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today provided an update on the Guardians' plans. While they've received interest in their relievers, Nightengale's update all but shuts down a potential trade of Cade Smith. "The Cleveland Guardians have no interest in trading reliever Cade Smith." Nightengale wrote. Smith, at 26 years old and under team control through 2029 for fairly cheap, would be a highly sought-after asset at the deadline. His 2.33 career ERA through two seasons is impressive and would draw interest from plenty of teams. However, he's not going anywhere based on this report from Nightengale. Cleveland, with this report, decided that it intends to keep the young reliever amid his strong back-to-back seasons. MORE: MLB insider reveals Guardians' trade demands for Steven Kwan In 2024, Smith had a 1.91 ERA in 74 games across 75.1 innings with 103 strikeouts and one home run allowed. He also walked just 17 batters all season and had an overall incredible year for the Guardians. This season, while not as dominant, Smith has still been strong. He has a 3.02 ERA in 46 appearances across 44.2 innings pitched with 65 strikeouts and 17 walks allowed. He's allowed two home runs this season and has a 1.187 WHIP. While a step back from his dominant 2024, Smith is still one of the better relievers in the game, and if he were on the trade block, he'd net a very strong return. But the Guardians aren't moving him, as they've decided to keep Smith through the trade deadline.
