Hamilton Accies Broadwood move still to be approved, SPFL confirms
Hamilton Accies' proposed move to Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld is yet to be ratified by the SPFL, Lanarkshire Live Sport can reveal.
The League One club are seeking to complete the move to a new temporary home after they failed to come to an agreement to purchase New Douglas Park from its current owner Colin McGowan last season. It is a decision which has sparked anger and concern amid large sections of the Accies support and local businesses in the town.
Last month, we revealed that Accies would be unable to play any pre-season games of League Cup matches at Broadwood due to pitch resurfacing works taking place. The new pitch is set to be relayed in time for the start of the new league camapign, which kicks-off on Saturday, August 2.
And that has forced Accies to schedule their 'home' Premier Sports League Cup games with Hearts on July 15 and Dumbarton on July 26 at K-Park in East Kilbride.
The SPFL are due to release the fixtures for the 2025/26 league campaign on Friday, June 20, by which time Hamilton's home ground would need to be confirmed.
It is understood Hamilton Accies submitted a tenancy agreement in April but amendments have since had to be made. The SPFL has yet to approve Broadwood as their home ground for next season and they remain in discussions with the club and landlords North Lanarkshire Council regarding this.
An SPFL spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live Sport: 'The SPFL remains in dialogue with Hamilton Academical FC over their proposed temporary move to Broadwood Stadium.
"East Kilbride's K-Park has been confirmed as Hamilton Academical's venue for home matches during the Premier Sports Cup group stage – but, to date, no venue has been confirmed for the club's other SPFL home fixtures for season 2025/26.'
The letter claimed: 'The SPFL stated if New Douglas Park is off the table, and the supporters don't approve Broadwood, there is the very real possibility that they will kick our club out of the leagues.
'If we don't have a 'home' stadium approved by the SPFL without further delay (we've already missed the deadline), we won't meet their Membership Criteria for next season and it'll go to a vote of the other 41 SPFL members."
The SPFL did not comment on our enquiry regarding this.

Scott Brown raids Celtic to land starlet tipped as a future Hoops captain to aid promotion push
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SCOTT BROWN enjoyed a whirlwind first full season at Ayr United last year. And now he's snapped up a starlet who his old boss tipped as a 'future Celtic captain' to help with his latest promotion push. They looked a much more serious threat at the start of last campaign though, seeming to be Falkirk's biggest challengers for the title. Brown's men fell away though and eventually finished third, before being dramatically knocked out of the play-offs by Partick Thistle. The former Celtic captain will be looking to go the extra mile and seal the Honest Men's return to the top flight after 47 years away, and will hope a signing from his old team's youth setup will put them closer. That's as Ayr have signed Kyle Ure from Celts on a season-long loan, with Brown naming him on the bench already for today's Premier Sports Cup clash with St Mirren. Ure is yet to feature competitively for the Celtic first team, but captained the under-18s to a famous 6-5 win over Rangers in the 2023 Scottish Youth Cup final. 4 Kyle Ure was named on the bench for Ayr against St Mirren Credit: Alamy He's since been promoted to the B team and earned a new two-year deal at Parkhead back in February. And he earned rave reviews for his display in the Hoops' friendly victory over Queen's Park last month, even being mistaken by some supporters for club captain Callum McGregor. The 19-year-old is well-regarded by Celts, and by Brown's former manager and now divisional rival Neil Lennon. The Dunfermline boss said back when Ure penned his deal: "Kyle Ure has played really well in the UEFA Youth League and it's great to see him signing an extension with Celtic, he is very highly thought of. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "There will no doubt be suitors looking on, but it's great that he has pledged his future to the club because there are some great role models in the building including Callum McGregor who he can look up to. "Everyone at Celtic is delighted to have him on board and now is the time to develop him into a first team player where he can really mature. "I think the club can get the best out of him and with his leadership qualities, why can't he even be a future captain." Eredivisie side expect Rangers offer for winger, Celtic latest
And the Dutch club are waiting to discover whether Celtic return for Jakob Breum after turning down three approaches for the Danish wide man from the SPFL champions. Sheffield United have been heavily linked with a move for Antman, after the 23-year-old provided 15 assists in 32 league games during his first season in the Eredivisie. Herald Sport understands, however, that Rangers have now taken a firm interest in the right sided attacker. Read more: Signed last summer from Nordsjaelland, Go Ahead Eagles are looking for a fee in excess of £5million for one of the break out stars of Dutch football and have been told to prepare for an offer from Ibrox by intermediaries. Russell Martin has already confirmed an interest in Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a player he tried to sign during his time at Southampton. Rangers have already submitted a loan offer with an obligation to buy for £10million. Go Ahead, meanwhile, have already rejected a number of financial proposals from Celtic for Danish under-21 international Breum. In the market for wide players after selling Nicholas Kuhn to Como for £17m and losing the services of the injured Jota until early next year, the Parkhead club opened with £1.5million last month. Despite Celtic upping their original proposal to £1.75million plus add-ons, then putting £3million on the table, the Dutch Cup holders have placed a price tag of Euros 7.5million (£6.5million) on a player signed from Danish club Odense in the summer of 2023. PSV placed Breum high on their shortlist of summer signings before deciding to pay £15million for AZ's Ruben van Bommel instead. Claiming their valuation is fair and realistic senior figures inside Go Ahead maintain that the player will not be allowed to leave for a knockdown fee. Celtic also have a long-term interest in Antwerp's Belgian winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha.
