Lena Dunham tried to make a dramatized version of 'Scandoval': 'I went so far as to abuse Andy Cohen's contact information'

The "Girls" creator envisioned Jennifer Lawrence as Ariana Madix.
Lena Dunham became "obsessed" with Vanderpump Rules during the 2023 writers strike.
It was the summer of "Scandoval," the highly publicized affair between Vanderpump stars Tom Sandoval and Rachel (aka Raquel) Leviss, which ended Sandoval's nine-year relationship with girlfriend Ariana Madix.
On the latest episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast, Dunham told host Evan Ross Katz that she actually tried to coordinate a reenactment of the post-Scandoval Vanderpump reunion. She thought it would be fun to have dramatic actors perform as Sandoval, Madix, and Leviss.
"We should basically create like a mini movie in which actors treat this as canon and get up and perform it with all the passion and virtuosity of Shakespeare," the Girls star said. "I went so far as to abuse Andy Cohen's contact information to pitch him the idea."
The reunion did deliver such gems as "Go f--- yourself with a cheese grater" and "You're a dementor, I know you like Harry Potter." A dramatized version of these one-liners would certainly be entertaining.
While Cohen understood her vision, the longtime Bravo producer didn't jump on the idea at the time, Dunham said. Although, he did bring together a star-studded cast to do a Scandoval reading on his Sirius XM show, Radio Andy. Cheyenne Jackson starred as Sandoval, Chloe Fineman played Leviss, and Amber Tamblyn channeled Madix.Dunham had a different vision for the cast. The Too Much creator said she pictured Andrew Scott as Sandoval and Jennifer Lawrence as Madix.
"I want to take these words and direct them like it's really serious theater," Dunham said.

Elon Musk Says X Found the Vine Archive, Restoring Access

Like many former Vine creators, Musk thought the data was gone, but the archive was "recently" found. Before there was TikTok, there was Vine, an app that played looping videos six seconds in length. It was widely popular when Twitter, now X, acquired it in 2012 for $30 million, but it was shut down a handful of years later. As the story goes, Twitter couldn't figure out how to monetize it — and it may have been a bit ahead of its time. There was a user archive at one time, per TechCrunch, but many videos vanished — until now. X owner Elon Musk posted on the app that this company "found the Vine video archive" and is working on restoring access. Btw, we recently found the Vine video archive (thought it had been deleted) and are working on restoring user access, so you can post them if you want. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 2, 2025 It's unclear what's next for Vine, but with TikTok's future uncertain in the U.S., bringing back the short-form video app with new features could be a smart idea. Last year, Congress passed a law requiring TikTok to separate from its parent company, Beijing-based ByteDance, or face a permanent ban in the U.S. After multiple extensions, the deadline is now mid-September. Some reports suggest that an entirely new version of TikTok could be built for the U.S. audience instead. "As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement earlier this month. Maybe Vine 2.0 will beat TikTok to the punch. Related: Billionaire Investor Frank McCourt Jr. Wants to Do More Than Buy TikTok — He Wants to Transform the Entire Internet. Here's How.

The First New Live-Action ‘Power Rangers' Material In Years Is… a Fortnite Ad

When celebrations for Power Rangers' 30th anniversary wrapped up a few years ago with the release of Once and Always and the conclusion of Cosmic Fury, the franchise's future was left in doubt. Rumored reboots stalled, Hasbro picked apart the series' legacy at auction and through AI-enhanced MMPR rereleases—even with the news that Disney would once again become the home of a new era of Power Rangers earlier this year, right now the series' live-action form has felt dormant. That is, until today, in a very peculiar way. This morning Epic Games unveiled the next season of Fortnite, 'Shock 'N Awesome', which is set to come to the battle royale shooter at the end of this week. Bringing a Starship Troopers-esque insectoid invasion to the game's island setting, it seems like players are going to have to contend with more than just each other whenever they drop from the battle bus… but they won't be alone. Well, for a price. The first major collaboration confirmed for the new season today is with Power Rangers, which will bring the Mighty Morphin' team (who else would it be?) to the game. And do so in style, as Epic confirmed the crossover in the only way it could: a '90s-nostalgia-bomb live-action trailer that sees the Red, Yellow, and Blue Rangers team up with some familiar Fortnite faces to battle some bugs. The trailer itself is great, but it is kind of ludicrous that the first official live-action Power Rangers material we've seen since 2023 at this point is for a Fortnite ad. A small price to pay to watch Jason (or Rocky!) spin a minigun around blasting giant bugs with pyrotechnic effects while a remix of the Mighty Morphin' theme blares in the background, I suppose. A presumably less-small price is what you'll be paying to play as the Power Rangers in Fortnite. They won't immediately drop in-game when 'Shock N' Awesome' releases this week (although it appears that Tommy Oliver as the Green Ranger will be part of the season's battle pass, at least), but they will be available in the Fortnite store from mid-August, according to Epic, as a skin bundle of all five primary Rangers, as well as extra accessories, including a music track for the new theme remix that can be used in Fortnite Festival and other areas of the game. They're not the only Power Rangers additions to the new season, however. Owners of the new seasonal battle pass will be able to do quests to unlock a Dino Megazord skin from September 16, tying into a midseason event that will let players 'power up' as the Megazord—presumably similar to how the game's recent collaboration with Godzilla played out, letting players stomp around the island. Fortnite's new season will launch August 7. Want more io9 news?
