Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 – Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

The neon-drenched chaos of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners hooked fans in 2022, blending the raw energy of Cyberpunk 2077 with Studio Trigger's bold, kinetic animation. Since its explosive debut, viewers have been clamoring for more. With Season 2 now officially in the works, here's a rundown of everything we know about its release, cast, and plot, based on the latest buzz and official teases. When Might Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Hit Screens?
No precise release date has been pinned down for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 , but the announcement at Anime Expo 2025 confirmed it's in production. Posts floating around X and some anime news outlets point to a possible premiere in late summer or early fall 2026, likely August or September. This estimate comes from typical anime production timelines, which often span 12 to 18 months for a studio like Trigger, juggling other projects such as Delicious in Dungeon . Fans are hopeful for a teaser trailer soon, possibly during Netflix's Geeked Week or a similar event. For now, keep an eye on CD Projekt Red's site or Netflix's X posts for solid updates. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Expected Cast
The first season's story wrapped tightly, leaving little room for returning leads. David Martinez (voiced by KENN in Japanese, Zach Aguilar in English) and Lucy Kushinada (Aoi Yūki/Emi Lo) likely won't headline, as writer Bartosz Sztybor quipped at Anime Expo, 'David's story is done, choom.' Season 2 is set to introduce a fresh crew of edgerunners, with entirely new characters driving the narrative. That said, there's chatter on X about minor cameos from survivors like Falco or even Lucy, given their ties to Night City's underworld.
No voice cast has been confirmed yet, but expect Studio Trigger and Netflix to bring back heavy-hitters for both Japanese and English dubs, matching Season 1's high bar. There's also a chance for Cyberpunk 2077 characters like Adam Smasher (Yukihiro Misono/Alec Newman) to pop up, tying the show to the game's lore. New faces will likely dominate, exploring uncharted corners of the city. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Potential Plot
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 will tell a standalone tale in Night City, set in 2076, just before the events of Cyberpunk 2077 . Unlike the first season's focus on David's tragic arc in Santo Domingo, this story dives into a new group of mercenaries navigating the city's corporate wars, cybernetic obsession, and gang-fueled streets. Sztybor described it as a 'gritty saga of revenge and redemption,' hinting at themes of legacy and survival in a world obsessed with spectacle.
While plot specifics are under wraps, the season may explore new districts or factions, possibly teasing elements of Project Orion , the upcoming Cyberpunk game sequel. Fans on Reddit and X speculate about ties to characters like Johnny Silverhand, but the focus will likely stay on original characters to keep Season 1's emotional weight intact. Expect Studio Trigger's signature flair—blinding action, vivid neon visuals, and a story that doesn't pull punches.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo did not attend Diogo Jota's funeral

Cristiano Ronaldo's surprising decision to skip teammate Diogo Jota's funeral was made out of respect for the grieving family, his sister claimed. One of the biggest soccer stars in the world was noticeably absent as Jota — the Portugal star who was killed alongside his brother Andre Silva on Thursday in a car crash — was laid to rest. Ronaldo's concern was that his presence would draw attention away from Jota and his family, including his wife of just two weeks, with whom he shared three children. Diogo Jota's wife Rute Cardoso (C) follows the coffin of Portuguese football player Diogo Jota carried out of the church after the funeral ceremony of Liverpool's Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. AFP via Getty Images Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, recalled the invasion of privacy and 'media circus' when their own father died in 2005 as she defended her brother. 'It is absurdly shameful to watch TV channels/commentators/social networks emphasizing an absence rather than respectfully honoring the pain of a mutilated family destroyed by the loss of two brothers. I am even ashamed to watch. Regrettable,' Aveiro wrote on social media, according to reported English translations. 'And so the world goes… Society and opinion. Today they are worthless. They themselves have become bottomless pits. I feel sorry… And war is also like that. Believe me. Human evil is also a war. And every day we have to fight against it. And so it goes.' Jota's funeral was held in the small town of Gondomar and his graveyard reportedly had to be shut off from the public because soccer fans were taking selfies at the headstone after his family left the site. So Ronaldo's concern about becoming a distraction might have been justified. Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, left, celebrates with his teammate Diogo Jota after he scored his side's second goal during the Euro 2020 group B qualifying soccer match between Luxembourg and Portugal on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019. AP 'When my father died, in addition to the pain of loss we had to deal with a flood of cameras and curious onlookers at the cemetery and everywhere we went,' Aveiro wrote. 'And attention was not what it is today in terms of access… At no time were we (the children) able to leave the chapel; it was only possible at the time of the burial, such was the commotion. 'At the funeral, there were presidents, coaches of the national team at the time, such as Luís Filipe Scolari, etc. I don't remember seeing any of them. And they certainly greeted me. The pain blinded me.' Ronaldo expressed his grief in a social media post: 'It doesn't make sense. We were just together in the national team, and you had just gotten married. To your family, your wife and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. 'I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.' Ronaldo and Jota helped Portugal defeat Spain in the Nations League final last month. Jota also starred for Liverpool. 'It's the fear of creating a media circus because you want to do something and being unable to focus on what is really important,' Aveiro reportedly wrote. 'Silence is also empathy. Perhaps we need to learn from this. Not everything is as it seems.'

Charlize Theron Has A ‘The Old Guard 3' Update

The Old Guard 2 The Old Guard 2 has arrived as a typical Netflix dichotomy. Awful critic and audience scores, yet still debuting and staying as the #1 movie on the service, above the fantastic KPop Demon Hunters. So, if it's bad, but people are watching, does that mean we're getting The Old Guard 3? It's complicated, and I would argue at this point, not especially promising. Well, I guess it's promising if you don't want another one to happen. This movie was five years in the making, a lengthy gap for a sequel, and as for whether there's going to be another film, we have a few updates from those involved. First, the director, Victoria Mahoney, speaking to The Direct: That's not a huge shock, as Mahoney did not direct the first film (and it's possible that may explain some of the quality drop, as few other factors changed). Given her apparent schedule and this movie's reception, her not coming back is no great surprise. But they need Charlize Theron, star of the show, to continue the cliffhanger ending they set up, leaving things open for more installments. She just spoke to THR about the possibility of making a trilogy out of it: It's not great if this was where they wanted to 'land the film' as it was very bad, and I'm not sure how it was reminiscent of the first one, which was much better. The idea here is that they left it open on purpose for a third movie, but there is apparently not even a concept for that, nor indications from Netflix at this point it's going to happen. It also stands to reason that Theron may want to focus on other projects. She's currently filming what will probably be one of the highest-profile movies of the decade, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, where she will reportedly play Circe in the ensemble cast. Outside of that, she apparently has four other movies in the works: Atomic Blonde 2, another action film, and Two for the Money and Apex. But this is Netflix, and with that comes Netflix money, so who knows? I would bet that this is the last we see of The Old Guard unless the second film manages to put up truly stunning numbers. It's doing well, but that well? I doubt it. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy

Netflix Is Losing Its Best, Overlooked Sci-Fi Movie In A Week, Watch It Fast

Furiosa The frustrating issue with a licensing system is that every month, without fail, Netflix loses a large number of movies and shows as deals expire while they bring in a new crop that may be better or worse on any given day. This month? They've lost some great ones, and they're about to lose some more. Just over a week from now, Netflix is going to lose what I would consider 2024's best sci-fi movie, or at least the best one that was unfortunately very overlooked by audiences. That would be Furiosa, the George Miller prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, that was released last year. It will be booted off Netflix on July 15, unfortunately. You can make the argument that Dune: Part Two may be the better sci-fi movie of that year (and Netflix just lost that on July 1), but it was far, far less ignored than Furiosa. Dune: Part Two made $714 million at the global box office and greenlit a third film from director Denis Villeneuve, who will move on to James Bond for Amazon after. Furiosa? It's a tragedy. The fantastic film only made $174 million worldwide, which matched its $168 million budget almost exactly. So they made $6 million, right? No, because that's just the budget of the film and doesn't include marketing and distribution. Famed director George Miller wants to say in the universe, but that very much was considered a bomb, and it's unclear whether he'd be able to spool up another entry in the franchise. The idea was that it would hopefully earn closer to what Mad Max: Fury Road made, $380 million globally, but it wasn't half that. Furiosa I will definitely not say that Furiosa is as good as Fury Road, which I'd consider one of the best action sci-fi movies ever, but it's still fantastic. Anya Taylor-Joy plays a young version of Charlize Theron's Furiosa from the first movie, and it features Chris Hemsworth as one of the campiest, most fun villains we've seen in cinema in a very long time. Here's the official synopsis: Even if you haven't seen Fury Road (which Netflix unfortunately does not have), I very much think you can still watch Furiosa, which stands on its own two legs (and one arm). Check it out before it's banished from Netflix for the foreseeable future. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
