Hell Yeah, ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II' is Happening
After repeated teases over the past year, Studio Trigger revealed it's making a sequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, its hit 2022 anime based on Cyberpunk 2077. At the show's AnimeExpo panel on Friday, returning showrunner Bartoz Sztybor and season one voice actors Zac Aguilar (David Martinez) and Emi Lo (Lucy Kushinada) revealed the new season with a tantalizing poster made by Trigger character designer Ichigo Kanno. The new series is said to be standalone—sorry, season one fans, Sztybor and the trailer itself very much confirm original Edgerunners protagonist David is still dead—and will provide 'a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge' across its 10-episode run. The logline for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II asks, 'When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?' The original centered on David's transformation into an Edgerunner after surviving a drive-by shooting and gets a powerful spinal implant. Along with critical acclaim for its writing and animation, it's been remembered for its pretty brutal ending, which left David and nearly every other main character dead by the end of their adventure. But if you thought that was bad, Sztybor teased things would get even worse for this new set of characters. 'I just wanted to make the whole world sad,' he said during Friday's panel. 'When people are sad, I'm a bit happy. This new season will be, of course, sadder, but it will be also darker, more bloody, and more raw.' Edgerunners II will be directed by Kai Ikarashi, who helmed the original's sixth episode 'Girl on Fire' and previously worked on Delicious in Dungeon and Mob Psycho 100. No word on when Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II will arrive, but luckily, there's some stuff to tide you over. There's a manga prequel all about supporting character Rebecca, and the show's co-protagonist Lucy joins Guilty Gear Strive later this summer. And if you've been holding out for a Blu-Ray for season one, it's coming October 28, with pre-orders opening August 26. 💥Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production! 💥 It presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077— a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. ❓When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter? 👀… — Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (@edgerunners) July 4, 2025Want more io9 news? Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 – Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on July 5, 2025, 17:30 IST Last updated July 5, 2025, 12:07 IST The neon-drenched chaos of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners hooked fans in 2022, blending the raw energy of Cyberpunk 2077 with Studio Trigger's bold, kinetic animation. Since its explosive debut, viewers have been clamoring for more. With Season 2 now officially in the works, here's a rundown of everything we know about its release, cast, and plot, based on the latest buzz and official teases. When Might Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Hit Screens? No precise release date has been pinned down for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 , but the announcement at Anime Expo 2025 confirmed it's in production. Posts floating around X and some anime news outlets point to a possible premiere in late summer or early fall 2026, likely August or September. This estimate comes from typical anime production timelines, which often span 12 to 18 months for a studio like Trigger, juggling other projects such as Delicious in Dungeon . Fans are hopeful for a teaser trailer soon, possibly during Netflix's Geeked Week or a similar event. For now, keep an eye on CD Projekt Red's site or Netflix's X posts for solid updates. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Expected Cast The first season's story wrapped tightly, leaving little room for returning leads. David Martinez (voiced by KENN in Japanese, Zach Aguilar in English) and Lucy Kushinada (Aoi Yūki/Emi Lo) likely won't headline, as writer Bartosz Sztybor quipped at Anime Expo, 'David's story is done, choom.' Season 2 is set to introduce a fresh crew of edgerunners, with entirely new characters driving the narrative. That said, there's chatter on X about minor cameos from survivors like Falco or even Lucy, given their ties to Night City's underworld. No voice cast has been confirmed yet, but expect Studio Trigger and Netflix to bring back heavy-hitters for both Japanese and English dubs, matching Season 1's high bar. There's also a chance for Cyberpunk 2077 characters like Adam Smasher (Yukihiro Misono/Alec Newman) to pop up, tying the show to the game's lore. New faces will likely dominate, exploring uncharted corners of the city. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Potential Plot Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 will tell a standalone tale in Night City, set in 2076, just before the events of Cyberpunk 2077 . Unlike the first season's focus on David's tragic arc in Santo Domingo, this story dives into a new group of mercenaries navigating the city's corporate wars, cybernetic obsession, and gang-fueled streets. Sztybor described it as a 'gritty saga of revenge and redemption,' hinting at themes of legacy and survival in a world obsessed with spectacle. While plot specifics are under wraps, the season may explore new districts or factions, possibly teasing elements of Project Orion , the upcoming Cyberpunk game sequel. Fans on Reddit and X speculate about ties to characters like Johnny Silverhand, but the focus will likely stay on original characters to keep Season 1's emotional weight intact. Expect Studio Trigger's signature flair—blinding action, vivid neon visuals, and a story that doesn't pull punches. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Delicious in Dungeon Season 2: Release date hints, returning cast and what's next for Laios and the gang
By Aman Shukla Published on July 1, 2025, 19:00 IST Last updated July 1, 2025, 12:17 IST Alright, fellow Delicious in Dungeon fans, let's talk about the mouthwatering sequel we're all craving! Season 1 of Dungeon Meshi served up a perfect mix of fantasy, laughs, and monster recipes that left us starving for more. Studio Trigger's already teased Season 2, so let's dig into the latest rumors about its release, who's returning, and what adventures await Laios and his crew. Delicious in Dungeon Season 2 Potential Release Date So, when's Delicious in Dungeon Season 2 hitting our screens? As of July 2025, Studio Trigger's keeping the exact date under wraps, but we've got some juicy hints. Season 1 ran from January to June 2024, wrapping up 24 episodes with a bang. Right after, a teaser trailer dropped, and by August 2024, the official Dungeon Meshi X account confirmed production was in full swing. That's a good sign they're not slacking! Anime sequels usually take a year or two, so fans are buzzing about a release sometime between summer 2025 and early 2026. Delicious in Dungeon Season 2 Expected Cast The voice cast made Season 1 unforgettable, and I'd bet my last slice of dragon steak they're all coming back. No official word yet, but the quick renewal suggests the gang's sticking together. Here's who I'm hyped to hear again: Laios : Kentarō Kumagai (Japanese) / Damien Haas (English) – Our monster-obsessed chef leading the charge. : Kentarō Kumagai (Japanese) / Damien Haas (English) – Our monster-obsessed chef leading the charge. Marcille : Sayaka Senbongi (Japanese) / Emily Rudd (English) – The elf mage who's half genius, half disaster. : Sayaka Senbongi (Japanese) / Emily Rudd (English) – The elf mage who's half genius, half disaster. Chilchuck : Asuna Tomari (Japanese) / Casey Mongillo (English) – The snarky locksmith we all secretly adore. : Asuna Tomari (Japanese) / Casey Mongillo (English) – The snarky locksmith we all secretly adore. Senshi : Hiroshi Naka (Japanese) / SungWon Cho (English) – The dwarf who makes slime stew look gourmet. : Hiroshi Naka (Japanese) / SungWon Cho (English) – The dwarf who makes slime stew look gourmet. Izutsumi : Mitsuho Kambe (Japanese) / Laura Stahl (English) – The cat-girl ninja with zero chill. : Mitsuho Kambe (Japanese) / Laura Stahl (English) – The cat-girl ninja with zero chill. Falin: Saori Hayami (Japanese) / Lisa Reimold (English) – Laios' sister, the heart of the quest. New faces, like the creepy Canaries or the mysterious Winged Lion, might bring fresh voices to the mix. I'm dying to know if the narrator (Satoshi Mikami) is secretly the Lion—how wild would that be? Damien Haas has been hyping Season 2 on X, so the English cast seems pumped to return, too. What's Next for the Touden Party? Season 2 picks up after the Red Dragon fight, diving into the manga's second half (Chapter 53 onward). With 45 chapters left, this could be the final course, covering arcs like the First Floor Interlude, Lunatic Magician's House, and the epic Winged Lion Arc. Here's what's on the menu: Wilder Recipes : The gang ventures deeper, cooking up crazier monsters. Think dishes that make Season 1's mandrake soup look tame. : The gang ventures deeper, cooking up crazier monsters. Think dishes that make Season 1's mandrake soup look tame. Big Bads : Thistle, the unhinged Lunatic Magician, and the Winged Lion are front and center. The teaser showed dragons galore, so buckle up for epic fights. : Thistle, the unhinged Lunatic Magician, and the Winged Lion are front and center. The teaser showed dragons galore, so buckle up for epic fights. Heart and Humor : Expect more of Laios' goofy optimism, Marcille's meltdowns, and Chilchuck's sass, plus deeper backstories that hit you right in the feels. : Expect more of Laios' goofy optimism, Marcille's meltdowns, and Chilchuck's sass, plus deeper backstories that hit you right in the feels. Canaries Drama: The elf government's secret police are coming, and they're not here to play nice. Their role in the dungeon's secrets will shake things up. If Season 2 keeps Season 1's pace, 24 episodes could wrap the story. But Trigger might split it into two 12-episode chunks, so we'll see. However, if Season 2 has only 12 episodes, a third season may be needed. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication .
