Punjab Police busts cross-border drugs smuggling module; 4 arrested
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrested individuals have been identified as Ranjit Singh and Karan Masih from Attari, and Manpreet Singh and Ajaypal Singh from Jandiala Guru, both in Amritsar district.
Police also impounded an auto-rickshaw which the accused used to retrieve and deliver the drug consignments.
The DGP said that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Shah, who used drones to drop narcotic consignments from across the border.
The accused delivered the consignments to different parties of the state, he said.
Sharing operation details, Yadav said that teams of Counter Intelligence, Amritsar, received specific intel about retrieval of narcotics consignments from the border area near Attari village.
Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the four accused persons near the Kathanian bus stop on Amritsar-Attari GT Road when they were going to deliver the consignment in an auto-rickshaw, the DGP said.
Further investigation is underway to uncover the network's backward and forward linkages, the officer said. PTI CHS ARI

Terming the recent arrest of two Catholic nuns from Kerala in Chhattisgarh on charges of alleged religious conversion and human trafficking as an incident of State-sponsored terrorism, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden said he would raise the matter in the Lok Sabha, along with the increasing number of attacks on members of minority communities in northern India. Police arrest key accused in 2014 Bejai shootout linked to Ravi Pujari gang
Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 27 (PTI) A fugitive accused in the 2014 shootout at Bharati Builders' office in Bejai, Mangaluru– allegedly orchestrated by associates of underworld gangster Ravi Pujari–has been arrested after nearly a decade on the run, police said on Sunday. Acting on reliable inputs and under the guidance of the City Police Commissioner, a team from Urwa Police Station, including Inspector Venugopal and constables Pramod, Narayan, and Govindraj, apprehended the accused Ganesh Sakat in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, Police said in a release. Sakat was produced before the court, and has been remanded to judicial custody, it said. The case, registered at Urwa Police Station, under sections 447 (Criminal trespass), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The accused, a native of Karad in Maharashtra's Satara district, had been absconding since 2015 after failing to appear before the JMFC 3rd Court in Mangaluru, which subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. Police revealed that the accused is also wanted in another case registered at Kavoor Police Station. Additionally, he faces charges under the Arms Act in Karad, Maharashtra. Do This Every Morning Wellnee Undo On Friday, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi said the filmmakers appeal against the high court order staying the release was infructuous as they accepted the July 21 order of the Centre clearing the release of the film subject to six cuts in its scenes and modifications in the disclaimer. The bench further had said it has not expressed any opinion on merit and the high court can adjudicate the issue of stay of release of film. Live Events It also directed Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani and Mohd Javed, who is an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case, to move the high court against the Centre's decision. The Delhi High Court had stayed the film's release on a Madani's plea on July 10, invoking powers of the Central Government under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, till the representation is decided by the Central Government, for which the high court granted one week time. The filmmakers claimed to have received a Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate with the board suggesting 55 cuts and the film was due to be released on July 11. Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in June 2022 allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous. The assailants later released a video claiming that the murder was in reaction to the tailor allegedly sharing a social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma following her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed. The case was probed by the NIA and the accused were booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act , besides provisions under IPC. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur. (With agency inputs)
