Dressed to impress, Chopra looked every bit the global icon in a light grey double-breasted blazer, paired with a black shirt, dark sunglasses, and a luxury wristwatch. The ensemble was the perfect blend of sophistication and flair, making him one of the standout guests in the star-studded Centre Court crowd.
While Chopra is enjoying the world's premier tennis tournament, the javelin ace is also gearing up for a massive showdown later this summer.
On August 16, he will face Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem at the Silesia Diamond League 2025 in Poland - their first meeting since the Paris Olympics 2024, where Nadeem took gold and Chopra settled for silver with a throw of 89.45m.
Chopra's form in 2025 has been nothing short of exceptional. He clinched gold at the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru and has medalled consistently across the Diamond League circuit - including a second-place finish in Doha with a career-best 90.23m and victories in Paris and Ostrava.
According to World Athletics rankings, Chopra has reclaimed his World No.1 spot with 1,445 points, ahead of Grenada's Anderson Peters and Pakistan's Nadeem.

‘Bit of karma!' How did Glenn McGrath get injured during the famous 2005 Ashes that England won?

England won the famous 2005 series against Australia under the captaincy of Michael Vaughan but one of the key elements of that win was the injury to Glenn McGrath, who was forced to miss the second Test. England levelled the series there and yet again when McGrath missed the fourth Test due to injury, they won a thriller. That Ashes triumph was England's first in 18 years. On the morning of the second Test at Edgbaston after he had won the man of the match award in the first game, McGrath had slipped on a ball lying on the ground, and was ruled out. But here is the story behind that injury, with 'karma' according to Nigel Stockill (England strength and conditioning coach), and England's physio Kirk Russell. 'The Australians started a childish turf war before play every morning. It cost them in the end,' Stockill has now told the UK newspaper Telegraph. Russell explained what happened during the first Test at Lord's during training sessions. 'Fletch [Duncan Fletcher, the England head coach] had got word that Australia would warm up where we normally warm up on the outfield at Lord's. We got there before 8am and sure enough they had been in and laid their cones out. By the time the guys wanted to bowl, the Aussies were out warming up close to the wicket. Ashley Giles wanted a bowl. I would take a mitt and Ash said politely to the Aussies 'can you just move a bit because we want to bowl?' Fair to say their response was not 'good morning, yes of course'. It was basically 'f— you'. Anyway it was the most high-pressure mitting experience I ever had because I had a couple of the Aussie guys by my feet. The fun and games started early on.' Russell claims that Australia's captain Ricky Ponting wasn't that nice to him during the first Test at Lord's. 'I would say 'good morning' to Ricky Ponting every day and I would get nothing back. Just silence. I always found that really weird. Perhaps he thought it was showing weakness to say hello to a physio.' When the caravan moved to Edgbaston for the second Test, there was more drama in store. The S&C coach Stockill takes up the story here. 'When we went to Edgbaston, they decided they would have our side of the pitch to train on again. Buchanan put balls out to mark their territory rather than plastic cones. It was one of those balls that McGrath stood on. There is a bit of karma there. They tried to upset the balance of things and if ever there was a backfire, that was it.' McGrath was taken to hospital for a scan that revealed two ruptured ligaments and bone damage in his right ankle. Later he would talk about the moment. 'It was tough sitting there watching,' he says. 'Not so much that we lost, but I always wonder what positive impact could I have had on the team. It's not so much the bowling impact, it's the impact on the mental state of the opposition. All of a sudden, I'm not playing. I'd bowled well at Lord's, then I'm out, which gives a lift to the opposition that wouldn't have been there otherwise,' he had told BBC. It was McGrath's replacement Michael Kasprowicz who became the last wicket to fall in that thriller. Kasprowicz had made 20 in a 59-run partnership with Brett Lee when he gloved a Steve Harmison bouncer down the leg side to give England victory by two runs. 'If we had got those last three runs, it would have killed the series there and then,' said McGrath. 'England's confidence would have been shattered.'

When Kevin Pietersen ‘flirted' with UK prime minister's wife and did any England player urinate at PM's garden after 2005 Ashes triumph?

It's been 20 years since England won the famous Ashes series at home and the UK media are on the rewind mode. It has thrown up some interesting stories from that triumph. A couple of them relate to the open-bus parade that carried 'drunk' England team for a celebratory function at the then prime minister Tony Blair's residence. The team had celebrated through the night and next morning were on the bus. Stockill, the strength & conditioning coach of England explains the mood on that bus that day. 'When we got to Downing Street [PM's official residence] the boys were half-hammered. We'd had a few on the bus. We get into the garden and there was one table with a tablecloth on it and a jug of water with 12 glasses. I said to someone you might need to up your game on the drinks. Then they rustled out a box of warm Beck's. Hmm you're still not cutting it. Anyway they did finally bring stuff in. It was incredible. It reflected the Prime Minister of the time not being a cricket follower and doing it out of a sense of duty or political points. Imagine if it had been the football team. They would have put on a full spread,' Nigel Stockill told UK's Telegraph. Stockill then zooms into the scene between Pietersen and the PM's wife Cherie Blair. 'KP was chit-chatting. I wouldn't say flirting, but there was a bit going on with Cherie. She was saying 'you boys, behave yourselves' as she was fluttering around the garden. KP went 'Tell me Nige, who the **** is that?'' Kirk Russell, England's physio, sums up that bizarre meeting. 'I reckon Cherie Blair had had a few before we arrived. She was quite flirtatious … It was incredible really. Something you never experience again. I remember getting drenched later that night with champagne in a nightclub. A whole bottle was poured over my head by KP.' In its rewind feature The Telegraph mentions the incident of a England player allegedly urinating that evening in the garden of the official residence of the prime minister, but notes that no one was willing to admit it now. The voices in the story deny such an incident took place. But interestingly a few years ago, Simon Jones, one of the star pacers of that series from England, had talked about it to Cricinfo. 'I apparently peed in the garden at 10 Downing Street. That's what they tell me. Did I do it? It could have been me – but I can't remember. Harmy [Steve Harmison] was playing on the swing and Hoggy [Matthew Hoggard] was climbing a kids' climbing frame. It was hilarious'.

IGPL Looks To Revolutionise Golf In The Lead Up To 2028 Golf Olympics

The impending launch of the Indian Golf Premier League later this year is poised to significantly elevate the sport in the nation in the build-up to the 2028 Olympic Games. The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will serve as a watershed moment for the sport of golf with the introduction of a Mixed Doubles Team event, nestled between the traditional men's and women's competitions. The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) will debut later this year at the iconic Riviera Country Club, featuring a 7,400-yard championship course. The new format will include 36 holes played over two days. The first round will follow the Foursomes (alternate shot) format, while the second round will be Four-ball (better ball). Notably, participating players will already be qualified for their respective individual events. The launch of IGPL is set to significantly elevate Indian golf, benefiting both men and women from the national squads by developing strong mixed doubles combinations. More importantly, IGPL will serve as a growth-oriented platform, enabling grassroots talent—often overlooked due to financial limitations—to emerge. It will provide deserving players with the opportunity to represent India on the global stage. Across India, the popularity of intra-club 'Club League" formats has surged, involving selected club members and their invitees in competitive team play. Now, the time is ripe for a national-level league that promotes inclusivity and provides a big-stage opportunity for emerging talent. For the first time, individuals and corporates will be able to own teams and engage friends, colleagues, and partners in a nationwide sporting initiative. Unfortunately, some whispers in golfing circles view IGPL as a rival tour. On the contrary, IGPL should be recognized as the most promising platform in the country to prepare our players for a podium finish—especially in the Mixed Doubles event at Los Angeles 2028. The biggest challenge often lies in acceptance. It's time to acknowledge that golf no longer belongs to an outdated, exclusive mindset. The future lies in innovation, and young India is ready for this change. Like LIV Golf, which disrupted the dominance of the US PGA and is rapidly growing in popularity, IGPL represents a revolutionary leap for Indian golf. Mixed-gender tournaments are not just futuristic—they are now an Olympic reality. Mastering the unique IGPL formats, tailored for viewer engagement and excitement, will open up unprecedented opportunities for small-town talent. With city- and state-based franchises, the league is set to reward both players and team owners alike. The growth of golf in India is just beginning, and the Indian Golf Premier League is a major stride in the right direction. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
