Best platform we've had, hope our voices will now be heard, say Indiabulls Centrum Park residents at TOI Townhall
Gurgaon: The air at The Times of India's #WeMakeGurgaon Townhall in Gurgaon was buzzing with anticipation, energy, and most importantly, hope on Saturday. For residents of the Dwarka Expressway area, the new sectors and new townships like Indiabulls Centrum Park, the presence of Union Minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh in their midst made them feel their voices would finally pierce the curtain of indifference that seems to be drawn around, saddling them with problems ranging from the lack of public transport to water. It helped that Singh strode into the town hall more as the local MP who was there not just to speak but to listen, approachable to anyone who walked up and started a conversation. "This townhall was the best platform for our voices to reach the authorities that people living in the newly developed areas around Dwarka Expressway have ever got," said Ambrish Ranjan, president of the RWA at Indiabulls Centrum Park, the venue for the event. "Today, we witnessed democracy in action, which is transparent, accountable and inclusive," added Saurav Chaudhary, general secretary of the same RWA. Indeed, the minister not only heard every concern patiently but also assured residents that he would take up each issue with the appropriate authorities and push for timely action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Compare Spreads: Bitcoin vs Ethereum CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo Singh's frankness helped as he acknowledged the limitations of centralised governance from Chandigarh and promised to work towards stronger autonomy for Gurgaon. His openness, particularly as he mentioned Gurgaon's contributions to the state's revenue and the mismatch in attention it receives in return, struck a chord with everyone in the crowd. "Moments like these remind us that democracy thrives when leaders and citizens come together," said Vikas Goyat, a local resident. For others, it wasn't just what the minister said, but the fact that he showed up in their housing society that really mattered. "This was a rare yet refreshing example of a govt representative being present, responsive and people-centric," noted resident Tushar Lahiri. He added, "At a time when urban frustration often boils over in silence, this event stood out as a bright spot, proving that when governance meets ground reality, it creates something powerful. And that is called trust."

AAP raises UP schools' merger issue in RS
Lucknow: Escalating its protest against the UP govt's decision to merge schools with low attendance, thereby closing around 30,000-odd primary schools, AAP MP Sanjay Singh raised the issue under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The party has also decided to organise a protest against the order in Lucknow on Aug 2, where it hopes to gather parents of affected children and other citizens who oppose the order to close down schools. Singh, who is spearheading the protests in UP, said that AAP would take this matter to the Supreme Court if needed. "This order is depriving children of the right to free and compulsory education. Govt is hiding its failures through such orders. Currently, 1.93 lakh posts of teachers are vacant in primary schools and thousands more in secondary and higher secondary schools," he said. The protest has become AAP's means of connecting with rural UP ahead of panchayat polls next year.

Army launches outreach programme to highlight success of Operation Sindoor
Pune: The Indian Army has initiated a nationwide outreach programme on Operation Sindoor , aimed at showcasing the success of military action against Pakistan. Army units and stations across the country, including those in border regions, are conducting special sessions at educational institutions where senior officers present video footage taken during the operation. In the Southern Command, all stations, including forward units in Rajasthan and Gujarat that neutralised more than 70 Pakistani drones and missiles, have been engaging with students over the past few days. "As part of a nationwide outreach, the #IndianArmy is engaging students across #India to share the untold realities of Operation SINDOOR—symbolising courage, clarity, and national will. In #Jhansi and #Babina, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the #WhiteTigerDivision interacted with NCC Cadets, emphasising the critical role of youth as Information Warriors in today's hybrid battlespace. In #Gandhidham, the #FalconBrigade of the #AgnibaazDivision inspired over 1,000 students to stand for truth and contribute to the safeguarding of our nation's sovereignty and security," the Southern Command said on its official X handle. You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune A senior Army officer told TOI that this student engagement is essential as there are attempts to create false narratives about Operation Sindoor on various social media platforms. "Since students are active on social media, we must clarify misconceptions, answer their questions, and demonstrate how effectively the Indian armed forces operated during the mission. Additionally, we aim to encourage and inspire youths to consider careers in the armed forces," the officer said. The sessions are being planned in schools and institutes in Pune as well. "The Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area, which is the local military authority, will conduct such sessions in the coming days in the city," the officer said. The students are mainly curious about how the Army's units engaged Pakistani drones and what techniques they used while executing the operation in the forward locations, sources said. Another senior Army officer from the command said, "We also discussed how not to fall prey to the fake narratives being planted by rogue elements on social media platforms. Additionally, we explained the basic approach to operating in operational situations. These things may seem small, but they have a long-lasting, positive impact on the minds of the students. These are the things we want to inculcate in them."
