TNIE impact: Four FIRs filed in child marriage, teenage pregnancy case in Krishanagiri
On June 18, TNIE carried a story — 'Bride and Prejudice: Aadhaar fudged to mask child marriages in K'giri'. The dates of birth on the Aadhaar cards of six child marriage victims were changed by their relatives to evade arrest in the past six months in Kelamangalam block.
Currently, all four victims are pregnant. The social welfare department is inquiring with a 15-year-old child marriage victim near Denkanikottai, and one near Rayakottai is still untraceable.
Earlier, the Kelamangalam Block Rural Welfare Officer and Block Extension Officer of Kelamangalam filed four complaints at Rayakottai, Denkanikottai and Kelamangalam police stations on Saturday. The police booked cases under sections 5(i), 5(j)(ii), read with 6(1) of the Pocso Act, and section 9 read with 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
Apart from this, Kelamangalam Block Medical Officer Dr C Rajesh Kumar filed a complaint at Rayakottai, Kelamangalam, and Denkanikottai police stations for Aadhaar tampering. Based on this, two persons were arrested in Rayakottai and Denkanikottai.
Krishnagiri District Social Welfare Officer R Sakthi Subashini told TNIE, "Police will inquire with the child marriage accused and will inquire at three temples where the marriages took place in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts."

Lucknow: The Cyber Crime Police team from Lucknow arrested two fraudsters, including a govt teacher from Odisha's Keonjhar district, for duping a man of Rs 47 lakh by impersonating a CBI officer and subjecting him to a fake digital house arrest. The case came to light on June 23, when businessman Ravindra Verma filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Lucknow. He reported receiving a call from an unknown person claiming to be a CBI officer. The caller alleged that Verma's Aadhaar and mobile number were being used for illegal activities and that an FIR was registered against him at Andheri East Police Station in Mumbai. The call was transferred to a fake police officer on WhatsApp video, who appeared in uniform and accused Verma of involvement in money laundering and narcotics-related crimes. The victim was coerced into isolating himself in a locked room, appearing on video continuously, and was told to transfer 99% of his assets to a "Supreme Court account" to avoid arrest. Believing he was under legal duress, Verma complied and ended up transferring Rs 47 lakh. Under the supervision of Lucknow Commissionerate's top officials and led by Inspector Brijesh Kumar Yadav, a joint team of the Cyber Crime Police and Cyber Cell tracked the suspects using technical surveillance and intelligence inputs. On July 4, they arrested the two accused from Keonjhar, Odisha, and brought them to Lucknow for interrogation. Additional DCP, Crime, Vasanth Kumar, said that the fraudsters would randomly target individuals, falsely claim their IDs were linked to serious offences like drug trafficking or terrorism, and pose as officials from the CBI, ED, or police. The duo converted the defrauded money into cryptocurrency (USDT) to avoid detection. They used corporate credit cards obtained under fake identities and registered their own mobile numbers to operate bank accounts and payment gateways, the officer added. During questioning the arrested accused revealed that Rs 27 lakh from Verma was routed through an ICICI Bank corporate credit card to a few accounts controlled by Jayant Sahu.

FIR registered against teen for sexually assaulting and blackmailing minor girl
Mumbai: An FIR was registered against a 16-year-old boy for the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. Police said the accused, who was detained, filmed the girl and further sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, threatening to circulate the video clip if she did not meet him. Charges were also applied against unknown persons who leaked the video clip online. Police said that on Jan 1, 2024, the victim visited the accused's suburban home for a New Year's party. The boy allegedly sexually assaulted her at his home and filmed her. Later, he threatened to circulate the video clip and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. He also shared the video clip with one of his friends over social media. In June, the video went viral online, and some of the girl's acquaintances saw it. The incident traumatised the girl, and she approached the police with her family. On July 5, an FIR was registered under provisions of Bhartiya Nayaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.

Motorcyclist doing stunts crashes into pole near Ganga Barrage, dies
Kanpur: Reckless motorcycle stunts remain an ongoing concern near the Ganga Barrage under Nawabganj police area of the city. On Saturday night, a fatal accident occurred when a man driving the two-wheeler lost his life, and the pillion rider suffered severe injuries. According to witnesses, the rider was doing hazardous stunts at high speed before their motorcycle crashed into an electricity pole along the road. The deceased was identified as Mithun Singh, a resident of Chandraseni Gadwa in Sitapur, while his companion, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination. Eyewitnesses stated that the deceased was riding at excessive speed on wet roads after rainfall. His friend was seated behind him on the motorcycle. While attempting wheelies at high velocity, he lost control and collided with a roadside electricity pole. The collision proved lethal for the rider, while his passenger sustained grave injuries. Station house officer Keshav Tiwari confirmed the deceased's identity through his Aadhaar card. Regarding the identity of the pillion rider, he stated, "Efforts are underway." The police have informed the family members and await their arrival to proceed with necessary formalities.
