States release Guernsey Liberation 2025 photo book
A photo book has been released to commemorate the most recent Liberation Day.The States of Guernsey said the book captured the "spirit, emotion and community pride" from the 2025 celebration.Key events and moments include the military parade, cavalcade, the visit of HRH Princess Anne and celebrations in St Peter Port and Saint Pierre du Bois.Helen Glencross, head of heritage services, said the book marked "a remarkable moment" in Guernsey's history.
She said: "Liberation Day 2025 was a truly unforgettable occasion, captured in so many incredible photographs that reflect the unity and pride of our community. "This book is our way of honouring that day and ensuring we can continue to celebrate and remember our shared history."The book is available to purchase from the Visitor Information Centre in Market Square, Castle Cornet and Guernsey Museum at Candie Gardens.The States said all profits would go directly into the Liberation Day fund to help fund future events.

Fake roadworks direct people to Guernsey art show
A street in Guernsey has been transformed as part of a one-day art project, called Diversion, used fake roadworks to redirect people towards Mansell Street, and into the Art for Guernsey gallery building, in St Peter Port Walls were painted by local and international artists for visitors to enjoy along the Ummels, founder of Art for Guernsey, said they wanted to "bring new life" to the Old Quarter. Mr Ummels said: "We have 14 international artists and 16 local artists working hand in hand to beautify the street and put this show on."Sadly some people have been surprised on their way to work, but we have been here to welcome them and explain it's only a joke for the day."So far lots of people have liked it, and it has been a way to put a smile on faces."One of those involved with the project was Belfast street artist Leo Boyd, who said the work was well-received. Mr Boyd said: "This street had become derelict and abandoned, so being able to come back from Belfast and see it four days ago before we started was a bit of a surprise," he said."Since then we've completely changed everything, and how people look at the street."We're getting a lot of positive comments from people who say Guernsey needs it, and so does this street."

Election manifestos to be turned into panto dame's dress
While politics has long been branded a farce by some, the makers of the island's adult Christmas pantomime are taking that one step further this year. Members of Music Theatre Guernsey (MTG) are planning to make unusual use of all the manifesto booklets still in people's home after the recent said they were hoping to gather about 200 copies before they end up in the recycling in order to fashion a dress for the dame in the upcoming 2025 production."We're going to be turning them into something fabulous," said MTG's creative director Darren Alderton. Elections 'nods' He added that the troupe was putting on its own idiosyncratic take on the classic story of said: "It's pretty much already written and we'll be holding auditions next weekend."Then, once we've picked our players, I'll give the script a bit of a rewrite - but you can guarantee it'll have lots of nods towards the recent elections."For example, when the dame is introduced she'll come on stage wearing a dress made from copies of the manifesto."He added that the team had already managed to gather 100 of the said: "We're halfway there, so if anyone has any spare, please could they drop them down to St Saviour's Community Centre, where our door is always open."Failing that, let me know where you are and I'll come and pick them up from you personally." Mr Alderton said that he found it funny how local attitudes had changed towards MTG's racy seasonal productions over time."A few years ago it felt like they were the most taboo thing on the island," he said."But, nowadays, they've become part of the tradition here. I think that's lovely."
