Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has opened up about his friendship with Lewis Hamilton, revealing how the seven-time Formula One world champion still maintains relationships despite shifting to Ferrari. Wolff also admitted that he offers Hamilton dating advice whenever his opinion is needed.
Hamilton parted ways with Mercedes after the 2024 season to fulfill his dream of racing for the iconic red team. The 12-year partnership with the Brackley-based outfit resulted in friendships that extend beyond his stint with Mercedes.
Wolff's friendship with Hamilton isn't a secret. The strong bond between the two remained despite the Briton's shock announcement of exiting Mercedes early last year. Wolff explained how the rapport continues even though they are now rivals on the racetrack.
He pointed out how Hamilton prioritizes their friendship even today, often flying back after Grand Prix events with him and his former Mercedes teammates Valtteri Bottas and George Russell. Wolff told the Wall Street Journal:

"When he decided to go, it could have been very awkward, borderline hostile, and we actively talked about how to not make it that. All of us made a real effort in trying to be very accommodating, very understanding.
"He's maintained being a friend. He pops up in the office on the weekend! He speaks with the engineers, gets some food. After many Grand Prix, he travels back with me. So we have the old gang: Valtteri Bottas, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and me flying from the races."
When asked if the kind of friendship he shared with Hamilton was unusual in motorsports, Wolff said:
"It's very unusual in any kind of relationship.
"But I tried to be very open and say, 'Listen, on the racetrack, we want to beat you. No doubt about that. But it's been 12 years that we have been in this relationship. We trust each other.'"
Hamilton has reportedly dated several famous personalities, such as Colombian singer Shakira and actress Sofía Vergara. It wouldn't be surprising if Wolff influenced the decision to date them, given his claim that Hamilton often seeks his dating advice. He said:
"I'm living a different life through his eyes, you know, he shows me his flirts and who he dates, and [asks], 'Should I go for this girl or not?' And I'm saying, 'Yes, you should, and tell me how it was!'"
Hamilton is reportedly seeing British pop singer Raye, who worked with him for the F1 movie that released last month. Raye was spotted in the Ferrari garage in Melbourne, which was the 40-year-old driver's first Grand Prix with Ferrari. She also performed at Silverstone during the recent British GP weekend, which marked Hamilton's first home race with Ferrari.

Scottie Scheffler Clears Air on Awkward Noise at Open Championship

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A lot happened during the Open Championship, much of it starring Scottie Scheffler. After several days, now more in control of his emotions, the World No. 1 shocked the world with an unexpected revelation about one of the most hilarious situations of the week. It was none other than the fart heard on the 17th hole during the first round. As you may recall, the sound was heard loud and clear on the television broadcast, and fans have been wondering who was the protagonist of such an embarrassing moment. "Oh, yeah. That was me," Scheffler admitted on "Pardon My Take". MoreThe four-time major winner seemed hardly embarrassed by the matter and, in fact, said he was surprised something like this didn't happen more often during golf broadcasts. "You're out there for like six hours. You're eating some different food over there. Some stuff's going to happen," Scheffler told the hosts of the podcast. "You never know when the boom mic's there. You never know what they're going to pick up. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened more in the past, picking up stuff like that. "But I literally didn't think anything about it. And then after we got inside, Xander (Schauffele) was showing me the video. He just pulled up the video and I see myself standing on 17. I was like, 'Oh, I know what this is.' " Scheffler also joked that, thanks to the wind, he wasn't the one who suffered the worst consequences of the viral moment. "No, we were outside, so I mean, breeze was blowing. Somebody else caught it (the smell). It wasn't me," he said during the podcast. This hilarious situation occurred during the second shot on the 17th hole of the first round. Scheffler made his fifth and final birdie of the day (two bogeys) there to finish at 3-under 68. It was the only night Scheffler slept outside the top spot on the leaderboard. A day later, he stormed to the lead carding a 64, and held on there with scores of 67 and 68 to win by a comfortable four-shot margin. Volvo Cars' head of global design steps down

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Volvo Cars head of global design has stepped down from the role after just over two years, the automaker said in an email. Jeremy Offer, whose appointment was announced in January 2023, told the automaker he wanted to prioritize spending more time with family. He also sought to reduce travel between Sweden and the U.K., according to the company. Volvo did not indicate Offer's last day with the company. Offer brought more than three decades of design experience when he joined Volvo Cars in 2023. Prior to that, he was SVP and chief design officer at the now shuttered UK-based EV maker Arrival. Nicholas Gronenthal, head of automotive design at Volvo Cars, will take over Offer's duties on an interim basis, the company said. The star pass catcher has suffered a hamstring strain, and is set to be held out of practice until next week. Head Coach Kevin O'Connell has announced that WR Justin Jefferson has a mild hamstring strain and he will be held out of practice. Jefferson will be re-evaluated next week. — Minnesota Vikings (@Vikings) July 25, 2025 Though the report from the Vikings' social media page indicates the hamstring strain is minor, those injuries can often linger and get worse. The hope would be that Jefferson's strain will only keep him out for the week that is indicated in the post.
