SP reviews anti-drug measures
Nandyal: On International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed on June 26 every year, a review meeting was held at Nandyal district police office on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of SP Adhiraj Singh Rana.
The meeting aimed to evaluate current measures and strategise further steps to curb drug abuse and illegal trafficking in the district.
Addressing the participants, the SP stressed the importance of public awareness and inter-departmental coordination to build a drug-free society.
He directed the officials to intensify educational and outreach programmes in schools and colleges, to sensitise youth to the dangers of drug use and promote healthy lifestyles through community involvement.
Rana also reviewed the preparedness of enforcement agencies and suggested a comprehensive action plan to counter drug trafficking.
He urged the departments concerned to identify high-risk zones, enhance surveillance, and ensure strict implementation of relevant laws. The role of rehabilitation and de-addiction programs was also highlighted as a critical component in reducing drug dependency.
District Prohibition and Excise Officer S Ravi Kumar, Assistant Excise Superintendent V Ramudu, DM&HO Dr Venkataramana, Director of Women and Child Welfare Leelavathi, Excise Inspectors Krishnamurthy and Lakshman Das and others participated in the meeting.

Ownership of 95 house owners of Kanshiram Awas Yojana cancelled in Prayagraj
Jun 28, 2025 05:49 PM IST Authorities have cancelled the ownership of 95 houses under the Kanshiram Awas Yojana in Devghat, Jhalwa, after an inspection found that the beneficiaries were renting out the units instead of residing in them, as mandated under the housing scheme, officials confirmed on Saturday. Probe finds houses rented out despite rules meant for homeless beneficiaries. (Sourced) The action followed a ground inspection by sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) (Sadar) Abhishek Singh on the direction of district magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar. The inspection revealed that in 95 out of 512 houses across 34 blocks, the original allottees were not residing and had instead rented out their homes. The matter surfaced after a poor woman approached the DM during a public hearing, stating she was landless and in desperate need of a house. Responding to her plea, the DM ordered a verification of the Kanshiram Awas Yojana beneficiaries. According to officials, such misuse directly violates the terms of the Kanshiram Awas Yojana, which aims to provide shelter to economically weaker sections who do not own property. On Friday evening, Tehsildar (Sadar) Anil Pathak directed local staff to paste notices of ownership cancellation on the gates of the affected units in Devghat Jhalwa.

Rally in Belagavi against drug abuse
The police organised a rally to create awareness against drug abuse to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Belagavi on Thursday. A large number of students, NGO members and officers participated in the rally that began at the Rani Channamma Circle and ended at KLE Centenary Hall. They carried placards and raised slogans against drug abuse during their rally. Police Commissioner Borasae Bhushan Gulabrao, who flagged off the rally, said that the city police are adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug abuse. He said that special teams have been formed to trace and arrest those related to drug peddling. He said that he and his officers will soon visit schools and colleges to organise awareness creation programmes. The rally was organised in association with Jain International Trade Organisation and Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) Belagavi unit. Deputy Drug Controller M. Nagaraj, Assistant Drug Controllers K. Mallikarjun, Raghuram Nidavanda and M. Manohar and Drug Inspector Renu Prasad and M. Dayanand from the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), JITO office-bearers Harshavardhan Inchal and Abhay Adimani, event convenor Devagouda Imagoudanavar and others were present. Members of Belgaum District Retailer and Wholesale Pharma Association, KAHER, Rani Chennamma College of Pharmacy, Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy, Sagar College of Pharmacy and many more organizations joined the event.

Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there. The programme was organised by the Home Department. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation. 'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction. The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added. Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs. District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.
