Leak of assembly portal data a serious intrusion
This follows the leak of an answer to an oral question from Ong Ah Teong (DAP – Batu Lancang), directed to state Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim (DAP – Sungai Pinang).Chow said the matter was serious and required immediate attention from State Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang to uphold the integrity of the assembly."Only state assemblymen should have access to the portal."However, some unauthorised individuals accessed it, took screenshots of the information, and shared them — this is a serious intrusion," he said.Chow said the premature circulation of the information before it was officially answered in the state legislative assembly was highly concerning. He urged action to be taken against the officer responsible for uploading the answer ahead of time, citing negligence.Law confirmed that the error had been addressed and the answer removed from the portal. He said answers were typically uploaded only after they were presented during an assembly sitting."We will ensure such incidents do not recur."We also hope that assemblymen will help maintain confidentiality when others are given access," Law said. The leak sparked a heated response from Lim during her winding-up speech today.Ong, who had responded to the leaked answer earlier, later apologised and retracted his remarks.Lim said the leaked version did not represent the complete response and criticised Ong for making assumptions based on partial information.

'Inappropriate and insensitive', Loke slams DAP vet's senator nomination protest
SEREMBAN: The DAP has expressed regret over a protest by around 50 party veterans in Negri Sembilan, who wore custom-made masks made from sanitary pads to protest the proposed nomination of an "outsider" for the senator post. Party secretary-general Anthony Loke described the act as highly inappropriate and insensitive, noting that members can always raise concerns internally if dissatisfied with leadership decisions. "If they are unhappy, there are internal channels for them to air their grievances. In any political party, decisions are made by the leadership after considering all aspects. Not all decisions can satisfy everyone," he stated after handing over the Jalur Gemilang to schools in the Seremban parliamentary constituency for Merdeka Day celebrations. Loke, who is Seremban MP, said it was improper for the protesters to resort to such a gimmick. The protest involved members of the state DAP Veterans Club, who held a media conference on Sunday (Aug 3) to oppose the appointment of a Johorean senator for Negri Sembilan. They wore the masks to symbolise the state leadership's silence and failure to appoint a local individual. Loke clarified that the protest involved only a few members and did not represent the entire party. The senator post allocated for the state will become vacant as current senator A. Kesavadas Nair completes his second and final term at the end of this month. When asked about the nomination of Vincent Wu Him Ven from Johor, Loke said the proposed name would be tabled at the state assembly sitting on Tuesday (Aug 5). "Once decisions are made, we have to proceed with the decision," he stated without elaborating. Loke noted that there are no legal requirements for the senator post for a particular state to be filled by an individual from the same state. "The usual practice is that component parties in the state government recommend names. Since 2018, PKR and DAP have each been allocated one seat, and the individual can be from anywhere as long as they are a Malaysian citizen," he explained. Nominations are automatically rejected if they do not fulfil legal provisions. It was also reported that Wanita DAP chief Teo Nie Ching slammed the veteran's protest as being disrespectful to women. "Using sanitary pads as tools of attack or ridicule only reinforces the shame and stigma long associated with menstruation," said Teo, who is also the Deputy Communications Minister. Period poverty is a reality in Malaysia, said Teo, adding that some students are forced to miss school due to their inability to afford menstrual products. 'And yet, here they are wasting large quantities of sanitary pads just to mock their political rivals," she said.

Ti queries why TVET briefing not held at ministry's office
Ti Lian Ker, a former MCA vice-president, defended a party colleague against criticism from Chan Foong Hin of DAP. PETALING JAYA : A former deputy minister has questioned the decision to hold a briefing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) at the Umno headquarters. Ti Lian Ker said he found it perplexing that a briefing on a government-related policy was not held at the relevant ministry instead. 'And why did it only involve MPs from DAP only? And only 30 of them? Shouldn't it involve the other unity government component parties?' he said. Speaking to FMT, the former deputy youth and sports minister said that in his experience briefings on government related policies would also involve the heads of the related department and agencies. His remarks were in response to a visit by more than 30 MPs from DAP to Umno headquarters earlier this week, in what one leader described as a historic first for the two parties. Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said they were there for a briefing on TVET hosted by deputy prime minister and chairman of the national TVET council Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Ti also defended his deputy president Mah Hang Soon who was criticised by Kampar MP Chong Zhemin of the DAP over comments on the visit. Chong said Mah's comments were vulgar, demeaning and aimed at sowing discord within the unity government, after Mah had depicted the MPs as 'infatuated schoolgirls' who were 'so aroused it shows'. Ti said the DAP man's comments reeked of hypocrisy, citing the DAP's bitter rivalry with Umno in the past. 'DAP once thrived and succeeded in attacking Umno's supposed excessiveness, but it is now bending over backwards to justify meetings in Umno's offices,' Ti said. 'And they have the audacity to mock MCA for calling out this inappropriateness.' Ti said that in reality, DAP could not provide a proper answer when the party was called out by MCA. 'Their only response is to belittle MCA and deflect from the issue.'

In Dewan Rakyat today: KLIA corruption probe, flood funds and vehicle plate revenues in focus
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — The comprehensive resolution of corruption and malpractice issues involving the Immigration at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), following the exposure of the Fly and U-turn syndicates, will be among the highlights of today's Dewan Rakyat sitting. According to the Order Paper on the official Parliament website, Lee Chean Chung (PH-Petaling Jaya) will raise the issue with the Home Minister during the question-and-answer session. He will also inquire about the timeline for resolving these issues.
