Tragic last act of superyacht crew member before she was knifed to death in ship's engine room is revealed as boyfriend pays tribute
Paige Bell, 20, from South Africa, was found dead in the engine room of the luxury motor boat Far From It on July 3 when the boat was moored in the Harbour Island resort.
Now, Paige's distraught boyfriend Franco Kritzinger, who also worked on board the ship, told of how he and his stewardess partner had enjoyed a cup of coffee on the deck of the £120,000-a-week charter yacht before he took guests ashore in the ship's tender.
When he returned he found a scene of chaos on board but the full horror was kept from him until the arrest of the ship's mechanic who has been charged with her murder.
Police arrested a 39-year-old Mexican engineer who worked with Paige after discovering him near her body, and he was later charged with her murder.
The man appeared before magistrates in the Bahamian capital of Nassau last week charged with Paige's murder but was not asked to make a plea and was not permitted bail.
He was remanded in custody until November 20 when he may face further charges.
Speaking to You magazine boyfriend Franco said: 'Paige was like sunshine. She always had a smile on her face. You don't realise how many people care until something like this.
Paige's distraught boyfriend Franco Kritzinger, who also worked on board the ship, told of how he and his stewardess partner had enjoyed a cup of coffee on the deck of the boat moments before her death
'She was just lovely and would never harm anything or anyone and was so very special. I just feel so sorry for her parents Michelle and John who flew out here last week.
'Paige enjoyed working on the yachts but it wasn't her life dream. She had a beautiful voice and could have become a singer but her plan was to study and to become a doctor.
'That was her dream in life and what she wanted to be and she talked about it a lot.
'I remember on the day it happened we had a coffee together that morning and everything was normal and I left with the guests but when I came back Paige was gone….'.
He added: 'The Bahamas held a very special place in our hearts and we went everywhere together for two years but this was so beautiful and it was here where we were happy.
'I can't believe what's happened. Everything now is just so sad' he said.
Paige's 21st birthday was last Monday and she had been due to fly home from the Bahamas to Durban to celebrate with her parents and her elder sister Chelsey.
Instead thousands of crews from the yachting community worldwide at her mother Michelle's behest held a minutes silence and sounded their ships horns at 1pm Bahamian time.
Many accepted her mother's invitation to then tuck into Paige's favourite red velvet cake.
Paige and Franco had left the 110 foot Sweet Emocean superyacht in January and joined as a couple on the bigger vessel where she was the 'meet and greet' face to guests.
The cold-blooded murder of the attractive fun-loving popular stewardess rocked the island where millionaire's and numerous royals and superstars take holidays in paradise.
Fellow staff could not find Paige at around lunch time and searched all six luxury VIP suites and the crew quarters before one member of staff went down to the engine room
The crew member found a scene of horror with Paige dead and the blood soaked mechanic by her and the police were called along with medics and a doctor who certified her dead.
A friend of Paige's said: 'She was last seen kissing Franco goodbye as he was about to take the tender out and that was about 10am and she went inside and just disappeared.
'As young girls we have to be pretty savvy around some of the super-rich guests who may think you are part of the paid entertainment but you trust your crew mates.
'Paige was a golden girl and for one of our own to do this to her is despicable' she said.
The alleged murder shocked the exclusive resort of Harbour Island.
It lies 60 miles to the east of the capital Nassau just off the larger island of Eleuthera.
Bill Gates has a mansion on the tiny island and regular tourists who holiday there include Mick Jagger, Prince Harry, Tom Cruise, Kardashians, Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks.
It is known as the 'Billionaires Backyard' as over 20 billionaires live on the paradise island.
The super yacht was moored on the Valentine Marina which was sealed off while police and forensic officers examined the grim scene on the 142-foot yacht and removed the body.
Paige's distraught parents Michelle and John flew out to the Bahamas having put out a poignant message saying they were going to bring her home after she is cremated.
A Royal Bahamas Police Force spokesman confirmed the murder suspect remained in prison and said there would be no further comment until he reappeared in court in November.
Just after 1pm on July 3, police were alerted to an incident at the marina on Harbour Island, an exclusive resort 60 miles east of the capital Nassau.
Cops boarded the 43-metre yacht Far From It, where they were told that Paige had not been seen for a short period of time.
They found her unresponsive in the yacht's engine room with visible injuries, before a doctor attended the scene and confirmed she had died.
She was found near the engineer who had severe injuries to his arm in what police described as a suspected suicide attempt.
He was apprehended, cautioned and taken to a nearby clinic for treatment, police said in a statement, before he was later charged with murder.

Former US soldier is suspected in Montana bar shooting that killed 4, prompting search
A shooting at a Montana bar Friday left four people dead, and law enforcement officers were searching for a suspect described by his niece as a former U.S. soldier who struggled to get help for mental health problems. Officers searched a mountainous area west of the small town of Anaconda for the 45-year-old suspect, Michael Paul Brown. He lived next door to the site of the 10:30 a.m. shooting at the Owl Bar, according to public records and bar owner David Gwerder. The bartender and three patrons were killed, said Gwerder, who was not there at the time. He believed the four victims were the only ones present during the shooting, and was not aware of any prior conflicts between them and Brown. "He knew everybody that was in that bar. I guarantee you that,' Gwerder said. 'He didn't have any running dispute with any of them. I just think he snapped.' Brown's home was cleared by a SWAT team and he was last seen in the Stump Town area, just west of Anaconda, authorities said. More than a dozen officers from local and state police converged on that area, locking it down so no one was allowed in or out. A helicopter also hovered over a nearby mountainside as officers moved among the trees, said Randy Clark, a retired police officer who lives there. Brown was believed to be armed, the Montana Highway Patrol said in a statement. Brown served in the U.S. Army as an armor crewman from 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq from early 2004 until March 2005, according to Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, an Army spokesperson. Brown was in the Montana National Guard from 2006 to March 2009, Castro said. He left military service in the rank of sergeant. His niece, Clare Boyle, told the AP on Friday that her uncle has been mentally sick for years and that she and other family members have tried repeatedly to seek help. 'This isn't just a drunk/high man going wild,' she wrote in a Facebook message. 'It's a sick man who doesn't know who he is sometimes and frequently doesn't know where or when he is either.' As reports of the shooting spread through town, business owners locked their doors and sheltered inside with customers. Anaconda is about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Missoula in a valley hemmed in by mountains. A town of about 9,000 people, it was founded by copper barons who profited off nearby mines in the late 1800s. A smelter stack that's no longer operational looms over the valley. The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting. The owner of the Firefly Café in Anaconda said she locked up her business at about 11 a.m. Friday after getting alerted to the shooting by a friend. 'We are Montana, so guns are not new to us," café owner Barbie Nelson said. 'For our town to be locked down, everybody's pretty rattled.'

Aussie dog walker shares the chilling moment his Beagle Benji discovered a human skull in Port Lincoln bushland
A dog walker has described the 'surreal' moment his Beagle Benji stumbled across what police believe to be the severed head of an alleged murder victim. The grisly discovery was made in scrubland near Port Lincoln in South Australia on Thursday and comes six weeks after Julian Story's suspected murder. His partner, former Beauty and the Geek contestant Tamika Chesser, has been charged with his murder but is yet to be formally interviewed by police. Tyson McCallum said his routine dog walk took a dramatic turn when Benji ran into bushland and wouldn't come back when called. 'I just went in a bit closer and kind of made the connection pretty quickly as to what I thought it was,' McCallum told 9News. '(It was) pretty surreal to be honest,' he added. 'I was kind of like, "No way, it's not what I think it is, surely not". But it was too coincidental.' Police believe the remains are Mr Story's, though forensic testing is underway to formally confirm the identity. 'They've obviously been through a lot, can't even imagine it,' McCallum said. 'To have it I guess finalised, they can get some closure which will hopefully bring them some peace.' As for Benji, McCallum said the sharp-nosed pup would be rewarded. 'He will definitely get a few extra treats,' he said. Chesser has been charged with murder and with interfering with human remains to pervert the course of justice. Authorities on Friday expanded their search of the area, with police and State Emergency Service crews (SES) combing the reserve. Cadaver dogs were also deployed in the hunt for further remains. Forensic teams have collected several items from the scene, which have been sent to Adelaide for examination. Chesser appeared in Port Lincoln Magistrates Court with a shaved head via video link on Thursday in relation to three separate matters. The former cocktail waitress was thrust into the spotlight at the age of 19 when she appeared on series two of the Seven Network show in 2010.

Notting Hill carnival machete attacker jailed for 18 years for attempted murder after he launched himself at teenager and slashed open his stomach
A teenager will spend 18 years behind bars after he attacked a stranger with a 10-inch 'zombie knife' at Notting Hill Carnival. Rumarni Tuitt, 19, from Walthamstow, north-east London, stabbed 18-year-old Kamani Spooner with the deadly weapon on the evening of August 24 last year. He was found guilty of attempted murder back on May 8 following a two-week trial at the Old Bailey. Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Judy Khan KC said it was a 'brutal and wholly unjustifiable attack and that there was no justification for carrying a knife of that nature on to crowded streets. 'This was a particularly serious offence committed in the heart of Europe's biggest street festival,' she added. In a witness statement for the police, Mr Spooner said he spent much of the day drinking with his friends and enjoying the carnival before the horrific assault unfolded. 'Towards the end of the carnival, he [Mr Spooner] could hear shouting coming from somewhere and he realised he was somehow in the middle of it,' prosecutor Mark Paltenghi told jurors. 'He then saw people fighting around him - three of them were quite close, they were throwing punches. 'He then recalls being hit in the back and upon looking at his arm, saw it had been cut, then looked down and saw that his intestines were hanging out. He put his hand over them and just ran. Mr Tuitt also stabbed Mr Spooner four more times to the side and the back and caused a laceration to his right forearm. Officers arrested Mr Tuitt immediately after the attack and were able to provide vital medical treatment to his victim until paramedics could reach them. Despite having his stomach sliced open, Mr Spooner miraculously survived his injuries thanks to life saving surgery. The zombie-style knife used, described by police as 'at least 10 inches in length', was recovered from the scene. 'Zombie-style' is the street name given to weapons which are over eight inches in length and often have a serrated edge, spikes or more than two sharp points. During his trial in May, the court heard that Mr Tuitt and Mr Spooner did not know each other. Mr Tuitt said that he was acting in self defence but the jury rejected his claim. Acting Detective Inspector Sophie McLoughlin, who led the investigation, said: 'This was a savage and senseless attack. The victim was very lucky to survive his injuries. 'Hundreds of thousands of people, including the victim in this case, go to Carnival to have a good time and enjoy the music and entertainment. 'Those who would choose to turn up armed with a 10 inch zombie knife clearly have no such intentions. 'It is thanks to the vigilance of officers on duty that day and the hard work of my team in the months since that we were able to build the case that saw Tuitt convicted at court. 'It is also thanks to officers' immediate medical intervention at the scene, as well as the specialist further care by paramedics, that we're talking about a conviction for attempted murder and not worse. 'I hope the victim can now move forward and begin to put this experience behind him.'
