Worrying signs for fuel prices in South Africa in August 2025

The latest petrol and diesel price projections show that there's going to be mixed news at the pumps early next month.
While the petrol price is set to drop, the diesel price will hit South Africa's motorists harder in the pocket should market conditions remain the same for the next week.
In recent days the rand has weakened while the brent crude price has risen – not the recipe for good news for motorists.
Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Monday, 28 July. FUEL PRICE CHANGE Petrol 93 decrease of 35 cents Petrol 95 decrease of 30 cents Diesel 0.05% increase of 65 cents Diesel 0.005% increase of 63 cents Illuminating Paraffin increase of 29 cents
If the market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate fluctuating and the oil price ever changing – a decrease of 35 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and a decrease of 30 cents for 95 users.
Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 63 and 65 cents per litre increase.
Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by 29 cents in price. FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:
1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices
2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
Oil price
At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $70.21 a barrel.
Exchange rate
At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.95/$.
The final overall price changes for both petrol and diesel will be confirmed early next month with the new prices taking effect at midnight on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Go easy on the accelerator until then, Mzansi. INLAND July Petrol 93 R21.79 Petrol 95 R21.87 Diesel 0.05% R19.35 Diesel 0.005% R19.41 Illuminating Paraffin R13.16 COASTAL July Petrol 93 R21.00 Petrol 95 R21.04 Diesel 0.05% R18.52 Diesel 0.005% R18.65 Illuminating Paraffin R12.14

His contract was due to come to an end next season, meaning he was free to sign a pre-season contract with a club of his choice early next year. Kaizer Chiefs have since minimised the risk of losing their academy graduate for free by exercising their contract extension on him. 'The club is aware that if they don't exercise his option as soon as possible then they could lose him for free or at least close to nothing because his contract was coming to an end in June 2026,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . New R50 million tidal pool planned for Hout Bay Beach

A brand new tidal pool project at Hout Bay Beach has been approved, with the first step reportedly set to begin soon. According to IOL , the project, led by Sandy Daniel and the Feel Good Initiative (FGI), aims to create a safe, inclusive, and environmentally sensitive swimming space. It is intended to benefit underserved communities such as Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg, who have limited access to secure recreational coastal facilities. Other goals for the tidal pool project include improving ocean safety, supporting marine education, boosting eco-tourism, and ensuring minimal environmental impact. The design will also blend with the natural shoreline and replace an ageing revetment. The tidal pool is estimated to cost about R50 million. FGI is preparing a sponsorship prospectus to secure funding. 'This is a major community project we are working on through The Feel Good Initiative. The first phase of the project involves appointing a qualified Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP), and we are in the process of securing the necessary funding to move this stage forward.' Daniel said, as per IOL . The proposed tidal pool site also lies within a Marine Protected Area, and FGI stressed its commitment to protecting sensitive ecosystems by incorporating natural rock formations, consulting marine biologists, and ensuring ongoing environmental monitoring. Cape Town to scrap postal bills – when is the eBilling deadline?

Cape Town residents have until the end of the year to switch from postal paper bills to electronic municipal accounts. More specifically, 31 December 2025 is the deadline for Cape Town residents to send in their account number and email address (to the channels provided). More than 475 000 Capetonians have already made the switch to email, but thousands are still relying on printed accounts delivered via the South African Post Office. According to the City's Mayco Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, the change will make billing more efficient and environmentally friendly. 'All residents need to do is send an email or SMS with both their account number and email address to request an emailed account before 31 December 2025,' said Mbandezi. 'Avoid the year-end rush, switch to eBilling now and help build a cleaner, greener, and more efficient metro.' The City will ensure that account holders with no email access will still receive their bills.
