New MSU WR Omari Kelly gives insight on who could return punts for Spartans this year
New transfer wide receiver Omari Kelly met with the media on Thursday and one of the items he discussed was special teams. He noted that himself and a few other skilled wide receivers are currently in the mix to return punts this upcoming season.
Per a post on social media from Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Kelly said himself, Kent State transfer Chrishon McCray, Nick Marsh, incoming true freshmen Braylon Collier and Charles Taplin are currently returning punts during fall camp practice. This bunch of wide receivers are all considered to have top end speed and may also be important pieces on the offense this year as well.
Of this bunch, McCray is probably the favorite to hold this role knowing what he was able to do at Kent State before transferring to Michigan State. It is interesting, though, that a pair of true freshmen in Collier and Taplin could find their way onto the field in that spot.
Michigan State opens the 2025 season on August 29 in a home matchup against in-state foe Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1.

Tennessee's tallest football players on roster in 2025
No. 18 Tennessee is holding fall training camp ahead of its 2025 football season, slated to kick off Aug. 30. Rankings reflect the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. 'You start this journey as they come back in January through your winter, spring and summer,' Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said of the Vols in fall camp. 'I'm proud of what we have done and what our players have done, the leadership that we have inside of our locker room, and now it's about taking the next step and taking steps every single day, competing to be our best individually and collectively as a group. We've got great leadership on this team.' Heupel's roster in 2025 features four student-athletes who are 6-foot-7 or taller. Redshirt freshman Jeremias Heard is the tallest player on Tennessee's roster this season. The 6-foot-8, 333-pound offensive lineman played eight snaps in his only game he appeared in during the 2024 season. Heard played left tackle in Tennessee's, 71-0, win versus Kent State on Sept. 14, 2024. More: Tennessee versus Syracuse ranked as third best football game in 2025 Three players, all offensive linemen, are listed as 6-foot-7 for Tennessee in 2025: redshirt junior Brian Grant, redshirt sophomore Shamurad Umarov and redshirt freshman Bennett Warren. Grant enters his fourth season at Tennessee and has two years of eligibility remaining. He has played in 16 games and appeared on Tennessee's field goal and PAT units. Umarov played a role on special teams and as a reserve offensive guard last season after appearing in four games as a freshman in 2023. Warren played in five contests during his freshman campaign and earned a redshirt in 2024. He played 40 offensive snaps and did not allow a pressure or commit a penalty. Kirk Herbstreit has high praise for one of Notre Dame's potential starting quarterbacks
While he's often impartial with Notre Dame, that doesn't seem to be the case with Kirk Herbstreit and one of the potential starting quarterbacks. In a post shared by FootballScoop's John Brice at the Personnel and Recruiting Symposium, the former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN analyst loves what he has seen from CJ Carr. Herbstreit said 'there's something about this CJ Carr. I'm super-high on him.' It's great that a national voice has high hopes for one of the potential starting quarterbacks, as Kenny Minchey is still battling Carr for the spot. It's pretty obvious from what we have seen that the second-year player has a much higher ceiling than his counterpart. Head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock have both been non-committal to either one of them, as the competition continues on this fall. They'll eventually have to pick one, and if Herbstreit has his way, it will be Carr that gets the nod. Three Auburn Tigers named to Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List'
Three Tigers have caught the eye of Bruce Feldman early. A trio of Auburn Tigers have landed on college football insider Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List' for the 2025 college football season. The list, which Feldman created in 2005, "chronicles the strongest, fastest and most physical players in college football." Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk (No. 9) was the lone Tiger represented among the top 50 players. The Tigers dynamic receiving duo of Cam Coleman (No. 52) and Eric Singleton Jr. (No. 73) rounded out the representation from Hugh Freeze's squad. A team caption in 2025, Keldic Faulk is coming off a breakout season as a sophomore on the Plains. His 7 sacks landed just outside of the top 10 among pass rushers in the conference while he finished second to only Jalen McLeod (8) on the team. With a trio of multi-sack games included a two-sack effort against Georgia, Faulk catapulted himself into the first round conversation in 2026 NFL mock drafts. Feldman listed Faulk's 80 total tackles through two seasons as a major reason he landed in the top 10, as well as the fact the 6-foot-6, 285-pound edge rusher can squat 700 pounds this offseason and bench press 415 pounds despite the fact he is yet to turn 20 years old. Sophomore pass catcher Cam Coleman received the honor as the best offensive player from Auburn ranked on Feldman's list. The Phenix City, Alabama native struggled to stay on the field during the former half of his first college football campaign, but exploded in the second half, securing 6 touchdowns and over 300 yards in his final three games. While the 6-foot-3, big-body receiver was outshined by fellow freshman pass catchers Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams, Coleman showed the promise that made him a five-star recruit just a short year ago. Along with his statistics from a year ago, Coleman's 23 mph top speed is considered truly elite. The final Tiger represented in Feldman's rankings has yet to play a significant snap on the Plains. Transfer pass catcher Eric Singleton Jr., who accumulated 9 touchdowns and just under 1,500 receiving yards over two seasons with Georgia Tech, was ranked at No. 73 by Feldman for one main reason. Speed. As the insider writes, "Pound for pound, the former 5-10, 180-pound Georgia state champion in the 100, 200 and 400 meters is very strong." There is no denying Hugh Freeze has talent on his squad heading into the 2025 campaign later this month. With a pair of freak playmakers on the offensive side of the ball and one of the best pass rushers in the country, the Tigers have the athletes to keep themselves in any contest this season. Whether that talent translates into tallies in the win column remains to be seen.
