Deion Sanders ‘hurt' over ‘foolish stuff that went on' before Shedeur Sanders' NFL draft fall

New York Post02-06-2025
Deion Sanders is hurting for his boys.
After son Shedeur fell to the fifth round, being selected 144th overall by the Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft, and his other son, Shilo, went undrafted, Sanders opened up to former Patriots and Eagles star defensive back Asante Samuel on the 'Say What Needs to be Said' podcast on his frustration about anonymous attacks that may have impacted their reputations, particularly with Shedeur.
'You have no idea, man,' Deion said. 'And stop lying. My kids are built for everything. We had two TV shows. … we've always been in front of the camera, so they know how to navigate. They know how to handle themselves. You're not gonna catch them in no foolery or no mess. They're not gonna do that whatsoever.'

'It hurt,' Sanders later added. 'But the bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed. . . . That edge that Tom (Brady) had, it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren't gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.'

Sheduer had previously said that his father was '99 percent' to blame for the online hate that surrounded him, although a firm story has to be released of why he fell all the way to the fifth round.

The only detailed story on Shedeur's draft day fall surrounds the Giants.
Although the Giants worked out Shedeur before the draft in late April, they used their No. 3 overall pick on Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter before trading back into the first round to take Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25.
Shortly after the draft, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that Shedeur missed mistakes that the Giants purposely put into an interview that was included during an offensive install.

When called out by the Giants and coach Brian Daboll, Shedeur was 'pissed' and the Giants wound up passing on him altogether.
'When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude, Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different [offensive] coordinators, who has still functioned and leveled up every time we brought somebody new in, and you're gonna tell me he was unprepared?' Deion said on the podcast. 'You're gonna tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he's a professional. He's gonna go into a meeting with headphones on? Y'all, come on now.'

Shedeur joined a crowded quarterbacks room with the Browns that includes Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Starter Deshaun Watson is anticipated to miss the season while recovering from an Achilles injury.
Meanwhile, Shilo signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
Shilo wasn't projected to be anything higher than a Day 3 pick.

Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July

Football season is closer than you think: Here's when the NFL returns in July originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The 2025 NFL season is quickly approaching – perhaps faster than you think. July 13 marks exactly eight weeks before the first Sunday of the regular season, but action is much closer to kicking off than that. Advertisement Between training camps, joint practices and preseason games, you'll soon be hearing all the updates about your favorite teams and players. Who looks good? Who is struggling? All that fun stuff that football fans obsess over during the summer. But how close exactly are we to seeing players on the field? Here's a look at the summer schedule for the NFL: NFL training camp dates for 2025 Every player – excluding holdouts – will be back in the building in the next 10 days. The Los Angeles Chargers' rookies have already reported to training camp, and more across the league will join them in the coming days. Advertisement Here's the full report dates for every team ahead of training camp (full team reports in bold): Saturday, July 12 Chargers (rookies) Tuesday, July 15 Bills (rookies), Dolphins (rookies), Ravens (rookies), Giants (rookies), 49ers (rookies), Seahawks (rookies) Thursday, July 17 Chargers, Raiders (rookies), Lions (rookies) Friday, July 18 Browns (rookies), Commanders (rookies), Packers (rookies) Saturday, July 19 Lions, Jets (rookies), Patriots (rookies), Jaguars (rookies), Bears (rookies) Sunday, July 20 Vikings (rookies) Monday, July 21 Chiefs, Cowboys, Colts (rookies), Bucs (rookies), Panthers (rookies) Tuesday, July 22 Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Bengals, Browns, Ravens, Colts, Jaguars, Texans, Titans, Raiders, Commanders, Eagles, Giants, Bears, Packers, Vikings, Panthers, Bucs, Saints, 49ers, Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks Wednesday, July 23 Steelers, Falcons When is the first NFL game in 2025? Believe it or not, the first kickoff of the 2025 season is later this month. The Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions will face off in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, July 31, airing on NBC and Peacock. This game is held annually on the Thursday before Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions in Canton, Ohio. The Chargers and Lions likely won't be playing many – or any – starters, considering the quick turnaround after the start of training camp. But just seeing those uniforms on the field is a welcome sight for football fans. Advertisement When does NFL preseason begin? The Hall of Fame Game is technically the start of the preseason action, but the rest of the league won't be playing for another week after that. Week 1 of the 2025 NFL preseason will be held from Thursday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 10. Here are the Week 1 preseason games: Thursday, Aug. 7 Colts at Ravens Bengals at Eagles Raiders at Seahawks Friday, Aug. 8 Lions at Falcons Browns at Panthers Commanders at Patriots Saturday, Aug. 9 Giants at Bills Texans at Vikings Cowboys at Rams Steelers at Jaguars Titans at Buccaneers Jets at Packers Chiefs at Cardinals Broncos at 49ers Sunday, Aug. 10 Dolphins at Bears Saints at Chargers When is the start of the NFL season? The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will host their division rival Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 opener on Thursday, Sept. 4. That game also airs on NBC and Peacock as Philly raises its second Super Bowl banner. Advertisement Week 1 continues on Friday with the Chargers and Chiefs facing off in Brazil, followed by a full Sunday schedule on Sept. 7 and a Monday night matchup between the Bears and Vikings to wrap things up.

Broncos Predicted to Land Free Agent Receiver

Broncos Predicted to Land Free Agent Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos' offense exceeded nearly all expectations in 2024. The team selected Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and many in the building were excited about what Nix and the offense could achieve under the guidance of Sean Payton, even if it was fair to expect some growing pains from a rookie quarterback. Advertisement Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper (2) catches a touchdown pass as Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr. (33) as defends. Ken Blaze/Imagn ImagesKen Blaze/Imagn Images Nix showed a lot of positives in his rookie season, completing 66.3% of his passes for 3775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions as the Broncos made the postseason for the first time since 2015. A positive for the offense was Nix's connection with Courtland Sutton, who arguably had a career year, catching 81 passes for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. Sutton enters the season as Nix's top target once again. Still, the Broncos added pass-catchers Pat Bryant and Evan Engram through the NFL Draft and free agency, hopefully adding more pop to a receiving core that needed an upgrade. However, there could be more help for Nix and the offense. Per Seth Walder of ESPN, the Broncos are a potential destination for veteran receivers Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper, who are free agents searching for new teams. Advertisement In an article where Walder graded every NFL team's offseason grade, Walder handed the Broncos an excellent 'A-' grade, praising the team's direction and the moves made, but wished the Broncos did more at receiver. 'I wanted to see the Broncos do more at receiver. Besides counting on Courtland Sutton and Engram, they are likely hoping for Marvin Mims Jr. or Troy Franklin to break out. Perhaps they'll end up making a move for another veteran -- maybe Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper?' Walder writes. Allen spent the 2024 season with the Chicago Bears, catching 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns, while Cooper was traded to the Buffalo Bills midway through the season and struggled to acclimate, catching 20 balls for 297 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. Both remain free agents, likely because of their drop-off in play from 2024, and because of the healthy receiver landscape across the NFL. However, the Broncos have options at receiver already, and neither would need to come in and earn 120 targets, especially in an offense that could run the ball more efficiently in 2025. A move could manifest itself. Related: Broncos' Bold Draft Pick Jahdae Barron Poised to Shine in 2025 This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Robert Griffin III Gives High Praise to Broncos' Bo Nix in Social Media Post

Robert Griffin III Gives High Praise to Broncos' Bo Nix in Social Media Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Broncos will enter year two of the Bo Nix era in 2025, and there's a lot of excitement and expectation around it. The Broncos drafted Nix with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Nix started all 17 games for Denver in his rookie season. Advertisement The rookie quarterback led the Broncos to the playoffs for the first time since 2015 before losing to the Buffalo Bills. However, accomplishing the team's first 10-win season and playoff birth in nine years was more than enough for Nix to win over the city of Denver. Now, heading into his sophomore season in the NFL, many expect a big leap in year two for Nix, who will be surrounded by a loaded roster. With his No. 1 receiver in Courtland Sutton, the emergence of gadget receiver Marvin Mims, the addition of tight end Evan Engram, and the new two-headed monster of veteran J.K. Dobbins and rookie RJ Harvey in the backfield, the Broncos offense has a lot of potential. On Thursday, former Pro-Bowl quarterback and current NFL analyst Robert Griffin III took to social media to give his take on the Broncos' quarterback. Advertisement Griffin entered the league in 2012, making the Pro Bowl and winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season. The second-overall pick's career quickly went downhill, stifled by injury, but he knows the game and has a quarterback's mind. This isn't the first time Griffin has been impressed by Nix, or voiced his opinion about it either. After Nix's first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, Griffin took to social media to praise the rookie quarterback's performance. "Bo Nix was the most efficient QB in his draft class because of his ability to process complex schemes with ease and the QUICK RELEASE you see on this TD throw," RGIII tweeted (h/t BroncosWire). "He showed that going 15/21 for 125 yards with 4 scoring drives in his preseason debut and his creativity too." (Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images) Nix continued to impress in his next preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, and Griffin let everyone know Nix would be the top quarterback in Denver. Advertisement "I want you to watch how CALM AND CONFIDENT Bo Nix's feet are in connection with how INTENTIONAL he is with his eyes on the first throw," RGIII tweeted. "HE IS SEEING IT SO CLEARLY. His experience playing in multiple offenses throughout college is showing up in spades. Bo knows football." The young Broncos quarterback has definitely made a fan out of Griffin, and there's plenty more in Denver after his performance in his rookie season. Whether Nix is the most underrated quarterback in the league or not, well, we'll just have to watch and see how 2025 unfolds.
