Doctor Arrested Again Over Molest Claim By Another Patient

BALIK PULAU, July 22 (Bernama) -- A doctor has been arrested again for investigations into an alleged molestation of a female patient at a private clinic in Bayan Baru here.
Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the 43-year-old male doctor was detained at the Barat Daya police headquarters (IPD) at 8 pm yesterday after being asked to attend a query into the case.
"Police received a report regarding the incident from a woman who claimed that at 11.46 am on June 29, she had sought treatment at a private clinic in Bayan Baru for abdominal pains.
"While in the examination room, the doctor treating her told her to take off her clothes and touched her breasts. The victim, who was unhappy with the conduct, filed a police report regarding the incident on July 18," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said following the detention of the doctor, who works at a hospital in the state, police also seized a mobile phone belonging to him to help in the investigation.
Meanwhile, acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed with Bernama that the doctor was the same medical officer who was previously arrested for indecent behaviour towards female patients in the state.
He said the man has been remanded for three days until July 23 to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
Previous media reports said a doctor was detained three times after allegations of indecent behaviour at a hospital and two private clinics in the Northeast district involving three female victims.
The man was investigated then under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for indecent conduct.

AKPS Tightens Officer Screening To Curb ‘Counter Setting'

PUTRAJAYA, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) is stepping up efforts to curb 'counter setting' activities at the country's entry points, through stricter personnel vetting and policy reforms. Director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the agency is drafting a policy to ensure only officers with clean disciplinary records are deployed at border posts. 'As a new agency involving personnel from Immigration, Customs and other departments, we've inherited legacy issues. We aim to break that cycle through proper screening,' he told reporters today. Counter setting, a term referring to illicit dealings at immigration counters, has long been a concern, and Shuhaily said policy support and internal cooperation were key to addressing it. In a related development, a male immigration officer in his early 30s was arrested today after he was found with nearly RM8,000 in cash and three mobile phones, allegedly in breach of internal directives. The officer, with only four years in service, has been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Selangor and is being investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act. 'This is someone with 30 years of service ahead. Unfortunately, the lack of a swift mechanism to terminate such officers remains a major challenge,' Shuhaily said. He also noted public misconceptions about disciplinary procedures, with many assuming corrupt officers are simply transferred. However, he said that civil servants are entitled to due process, which takes time.

Diving instructor arrested over assault, threat in Semporna

Published on: Friday, July 25, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 25, 2025 By: Azmie Lim Text Size: SEMPORNA: A diving instructor has been arrested here following a report of assault and criminal intimidation involving a 34-year-old foreign man, said acting district police chief DSP Jaafar Hakim on Thursday. The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement during a dive trip to Pulau Timba-Timba on Tuesday when a gas tank belonging to the victim accidentally fell and injured the 38-year-old suspect's foot. The next day, the suspect, after receiving medical treatment in Tawau, returned to the tour company's premises to confront the victim and allegedly demanded compensation. During the confrontation, an argument broke out, and the suspect is accused of physically assaulting and threatening to injure the victim. The case, which has since gone viral on social media, is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code, and police are urging witnesses to come forward with information. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? 1,274 notices issued in special operation on seat belts in buses

JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said 878 notices were issued to express bus passengers and 107 to tour bus passengers. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) has issued 1,274 compound notices under a special operation to ensure the use of seat belts by drivers and passengers of express buses, tour buses and goods vehicles since July 1. JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said 1,000 notices were issued to passengers for not wearing seat belts, 262 notices to drivers for the same offence, and 12 notices to express buses that failed to install seat belts, Bernama reported. 'For passengers, 878 notices were issued to express bus passengers, 107 to tour bus passengers, and 15 to passengers or drivers of goods vehicles. 'For drivers, 33 notices were issued to express bus drivers, 24 to tour bus drivers and 205 to goods vehicle drivers,' he said. JPJ is cracking down on buses following the fatal crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students last month. The bus was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to Tanjung Malim, Perak, along the East-West Highway, when it crashed near Tasik Banding in Gerik. Initial findings revealed that the bus was travelling at twice the permitted speed limit and this was believed to be one of the causes of the accident.
