PM Anwar highlights success of visits to Italy, France, Brazil
The visits, which began on July 1, reinforced bilateral ties and positioned Malaysia as a competitive player ahead of its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
Anwar highlighted that the trip generated over RM12 billion in potential investments, with Italy contributing RM8 billion and France RM4 billion. The delegation included five Cabinet ministers and representatives from major Malaysian corporations such as Petronas, Maybank, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
In Italy, discussions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni focused on expanding economic cooperation, while geopolitical concerns, including the crisis in Gaza, were also addressed. Anwar noted that Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva shared Malaysia's stance on ending violence in Palestine.
Responding to criticism over aircraft purchases benefiting European manufacturers, Anwar clarified that Malaysia aims to become a regional hub for aviation services, including maintenance and training. The government seeks long-term gains from partnerships with Airbus and Embraer.
In Brazil, Anwar was invited to speak at the BRICS Business Forum, where he advocated for fairer global economic policies and raised concerns about AI governance. He also met leaders from India, Vietnam, Egypt, and South Africa, discussing potential collaborations.
Malaysia's potential membership in the New Development Bank was also explored following talks with its president, Dilma Rousseff. Anwar stated that Bank Negara Malaysia would assess the benefits before any decision is made. - Bernama

Don't be influenced by claims that govt neglects Terengganu
KUALA TERENGGANU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked the people of the state not to be influenced by baseless claims that the federal government is not doing any development for their welfare. He said in fact, a total of 445 programmes and projects with an allocation of RM1.836 billion have been approved in Terengganu under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) Development Programmes/Projects of the 12th Malaysia Plan (MP12). He said this was an increase of RM239 million compared to last year, thus refuting claims by some quarters that no development was being done for the state. '..this is I announcing projects that are underway or have started to proceed. Sometimes it is slow (because we have to take into account) the issue of land acquisition, impact studies and suitability, but the approved (project) is RM1.836 billion. Terengganu first state for Madani Tuition programme, says Anwar
KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu has been chosen to be the first state to implement the Madani Tuition programme with an allocation of RM5.27mil, which will benefit 9,408 students, involving the assistance of 614 school teachers. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Terengganu was chosen due to the excellent achievements shown by students in the state in public examination results. "I appreciate and see Terengganu recording excellent results and I am also proud as a father and grandfather. (Therefore) I would like to announce specifically (Madani Tuition) for Terengganu first as a start as assistance to school students. "This assistance (is carried out) with the cooperation of teaching assistance from school is the first programme in Malaysia," he said when officiating the Closing Ceremony of the Terengganu People's Madani (PMR) Programme 2025 at Pasar Kedai Payang here on Saturday (July 12).
