Kayali's New Vanilla Fragrance Is A Nod To '90s Nostalgia
Picture this: It's 1995. You are 14 years old. 14 years and eight months, to be exact. Yes, you're the sassy type. You're cruising through the mall with your two best friends and just called your crush on the pay phone so him and his friends can come meet you and yours. While you wait to meet in the food court, you pop into Victoria Secret's or Bath and Body Works and douse yourself in body mist. You stop at the candy shop and get a quarter pound of your favorite sweet and sour candy before heading to meet your crush.
That's what Kayali's latest sweet scent, Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar, is giving—'90s mall rat energy. 'Oh my God, that's such a good description because I grew up in the '90s and that's when I was the biggest mall rat ever,' exclaims Mona Kattan, founder of Kayali, as we chat during lunchtime on Friday. For the gourmand girlies, this scent will satisfy the sweetest of cravings. Candied pears, marshmallow, rocky candy, and bubble gum dance with violet leaves, jasmine, and patchouli for a sweet scent that dries down to a saccharine, smoky vanilla essence. You can't help but feel like a kid in a candy shop—Kattan admits she worked in her school's candy store. 'I love desserts. I'm a sweet tooth girl. It's probably my biggest weakness in life, so that's why I always want to smell really sweet. It just makes me happy,' says Kattan.
As I spritz the fragrance, I imagine Kattan selling rice krispey treats while smacking on Hubba Bubba bubble gum. 'I'm crushing on marshmallow right now—I want to put it in everything,' says Kattan. There are warm, woody notes of sweet tonka bean with the vanilla shining through as the fragrance dries down and becomes more complex. It's sweet but not childish, rather, nostaligic. 'They're really fun playful notes. We have jelly beans, we have so many fun notes in there,' Kattan says. Vanilla is a scent profile found throughout the Kayali collection and Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar fulfills a trio of this spice. 'A lot of people in our community were asking [me] to make something stronger and more long lasting, more intense. So [Vanilla Royale] was the answer to that, like the bougie big sister,' explains Kattan. She describes Vanilla 28 as the 'crazy rich auntie,' and Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar rounds out the sisterhood as the 'younger, more playful sister.' Vanilla is a nostalgic scent for Kattan, one that makes her feel at ease. 'I think it's related to vanilla cake when you're a kid and all of us had birthday cake and that smell of vanilla cake to me, just makes you feel happy,' she says.
These family moments—birthdays, dinners, and times spent with people you love are the ones that are most precious to Kattan and often inspire her scents. 'It's not a big milestone. It's not a trip. It's chilling with people you love and having good food is the best memory. So that's why I feel like I always want to bottle those memories and wear it and feel that emotion again.'

Tyra Banks Got Cut Off From Free Victoria's Secret Stuff, And The Story Sounds Mortifying
Michael Tullberg / Getty Images Tyra Banks just sheepishly recalled the absolutely mortifying time that she had a 'whole pile' of Victoria's Secret items that she thought she would get for free, only for her 'Angel Card' to be rejected in-store. Kmazur / Getty Images For reference, the 51-year-old star was a Victoria's Secret Angel between 1997 and 2005, and during this time, she was gifted an Angel Card that she was told would get her free products in all Victoria's Secret stores 'forever.' J. Vespa / Getty Images Opening up about the card during a recent appearance on "Today with Jenna & Friends," Tyra explained: 'I had a free Angel Card that the head of Victoria's Secret gave me. They were like: 'Forever. We love you so much, you have this card and you can go to any shop forever, and shop forever with no cap on it.'' Kmazur / Getty Images 'So I would get lingerie for myself, matching tops and bottoms, every collection that came out, I got it,' she went on. NBC 'And then, a few years later, they put a contract on the table and said: 'Let's sign three more years!'' Tyra continued. 'And I was like: 'I don't want to, I want to be a talk show host, I'm not gonna do it.' And they let me have that Angel Card for a year later, and then they said: 'Give it back, baby!'' NBC Host Jenna Bush Hager then asked the star: 'Did you actually go to Victoria's Secret and they were like: 'Sorry, this card is no longer accepted here'?' and Tyra was visibly embarrassed as she admitted that is exactly what happened. NBC 'I hate saying this on national TV!' Tyra exclaimed, with Jenna gently asking: 'Did you have a whole pile of stuff?!' NBC 'Yes, Jenna!' Tyra reluctantly confessed. 'It was in a suburb store in Los Angeles off the freeway, I can't remember the name of the mall. But oh my gosh, guess what happened, Jenna? I don't match anymore — my lingerie is crazy!' Noam Galai / Getty Images Jenna later asked Tyra if she would ever return to Victoria's Secret, and Tyra was quick to quip: 'I would do a deal if you gave me my card back, let's start there. That is the most important thing — I want my card, and then I have to represent the brand.' Angela Weiss / Getty Images As you may recall, Tyra did return to the Victoria's Secret runway last October, where she closed the brand's iconic New York City fashion show. However, that was evidently not enough to regain access to the prestigious card. @jennaandfriends_"Give it back, baby." 😂 Tyra Banks hilariously recalled the time her Victoria's Secret Angel Card was no longer valid for use #JennaandFriends♬ original sound - TODAY with Jenna & Friends">You can watch the full clip below — let me know what you make of Tyra's Angel Card debacle in the comments! Brunello Cucinelli Transformed the Hamptons Into an Italian Piazza for a Night
The threat of rain didn't deter guests—including Christie Brinkley and Alexandra Daddario—from donning their finest Brunello Cucinelli and heading to the Wölffer Estate Stables in The Hamptons last night. Upon arrival, they were immediately and perhaps unexpectedly transported to an Italian piazza, where two long, winding tables circled a fountain and a makeshift mercato was set up, stocked to the brim with tomatoes, cheese, and charcuterie. Dressed in the quiet luxury brand's signature shades of beige, cream, and brown, attendees mingled during cocktail hour, chatting about the looming storm and their end-of-summer plans out east. 'I brought sunglasses too, but where's the sun?' joked Kelly Turlington Burns. Next, the evening gave way to a seated dinner with an Umbrian-style menu of rigatoni pomodoro and gelato with fresh fruit, serenaded by live acoustic guitar, and naturally paired with Wölffer Estate Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. 'This was a tiny little farmhouse on a potato field,' co-host Joey Wölffer told the crowd, gesturing around the space. 'It's spectacular. It's way more than I could ever imagine.' Brunello Cucinelli CEO Riccardo Stefanelli flew in for a quick 24 hours to make an appearance. 'I'm not complaining—being in such a beautiful place with such beautiful people,' he said. 'There are many words—beauty, dignity, craftsmanship, attention to detail—but what we have here is not just a winery or a cellar, it's a community.' Scroll through below for an inside look. Here's Where You Know the Cast of ‘The Hunting Wives' From
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. In the mood for a mystery thriller that's just the right amount of unhinged? The Hunting Wives might scratch that itch. Based on the 2021 bestselling novel of the same name by May Cobb, the series follows Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she moves with her family to Maple Brook, Texas, and becomes enraptured by an alluring Southern socialite. When the series landed on Snow's desk, she told People that she 'read the scripts of all eight episodes within a couple hours. I was completely hooked. I was desperate to find out what was going to happen.' All eight episodes are now streaming on Netflix. Ahead, get to know the main cast—and see where you might already recognize them from. Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect, John Tucker Must Die) plays Sophie, a former PR exec who moves with her family from Massachusetts to Texas. There, she quickly gets wrapped up in a cliquey socialite circle. Malin Åkerman (Dollface, Billions) plays Margo, the wife of an oil tycoon and the HBIC of a group of MAGA-esque socialites known as the Hunting Wives. Dermot Mulroney (Shameless, Chicago Fire) plays Jed, Margo's husband and a successful oil tycoon. He's also running for Texas governor. Evan Jonigkeit (Sweetbitter) plays Graham, Sophie's husband. While in Texas, he begins working for Jed as an architect for a big project. Chrissy Metz (This Is Us) plays Starr, a devout Christian and single mother who is a bit of an outsider in the Maple Brook community. Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick) plays Callie, Margo's close friend and ex-lover who is very possessive of her. Katie Lowes (Scandal) plays Jill, the disregarded wife of a reverend at a megachurch. She mostly focuses on her son, Brad, and the Hunting Wives. Madison Wolfe (The Conjuring 2) plays Abby, girlfriend to Brad—Jill's son—and daughter to Starr. Joyce Glenn (Checkmate) plays Monae, a member of the Hunting Wives.
