LSU baseball vs. Arkansas in College World Series: Live updates, score, highlights
LSU baseball is back in a familiar place -- the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Jay Johnson and the Tigers won the 2023 College World Series, but didn't make it back in 2024. Two years later, LSU is looking to add an eighth national championship trophy to its rich history.
LSU is set to face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night. It's the second of two CWS games on Saturday and Game 4 of the College World Series schedule.
The SEC foes are familiar after meeting in the regular season. LSU took two of three from Arkansas at Alex Box Stadium, nearly sweeping the Razorbacks before dropping Game 3 on Sunday.
LSU punched its ticket to Omaha after sweeping West Virginia in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. The Tigers' offense erupted for 28 runs across two games. Arkansas also took care of business in two games, beating Tennessee in the Fayetteville Super Regional.
Both teams are rolling with their aces. Kade Anderson takes the mound for LSU while Zach Root gets the nod for Arkansas. Anderson and Root, both lefties, are two of the best arms in the country. Anderson has a chance to be the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft and Root continues to make his case to be a first-round pick.
LSUWire will provide live coverage of LSU vs. Arkansas throughout the evening.

Panthers great Cam Newton goes scorched earth on celeb detractors amid Jalen Hurts debate
Carolina Panthers great Cam Newton just hit the nuclear button. The franchise's all-time leading passer and former NFL Most Valuable Player had received a bit of criticism after not including Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts on his recent list of the game's top 10 quarterbacks. Newton, however, believed that some of the backlash was too pointed and too personal. So, he took out a little time this week to respond to the detractors—including ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Ryan Clark and Dan Orlovsky, Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens and rapper/Eagles superfan Gillie Da Kid. Strap in . . . To Newton's point, he did not disparage Hurts for his talents and abilities under center. In fact, he praised the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Here's what Newton said of Hurts during that July 17 episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton: "Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback. Do not get that twisted," he stated. "But if we're talking about what they bring to the table, it's hard to judge what Jalen Hurts can do when you're throwing to a guy like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith. When you have a tight end skill set, you have a dominant defense, you have the best running back [Saquon Barkley] in the game." Newton's list went down as follows: Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow Matthew Stafford Jared Goff Jayden Daniels C.J. Stroud Justin Herbert Baker Mayfield Despite his reasoning, the debate got turned up to a pretty spicy level—as is often the case in today's media landscape. Oh, and when you have Newton in the mix, well, it's bound to get even spicier. So, that's what y'all wanted to see, huh? This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Cam Newton goes nuclear on celeb detractors amid Jalen Hurts debate

Top Clemson baseball roster hopeful for 2026 officially signs with MLB team
One of Clemson baseball's biggest roster hopefuls for 2026 has signed a professional contract. As expected, All-American outfielder Ryan Wideman signed with the San Diego Padres late Wednesday night. The Padres selected Wideman in the third round of the MLB draft earlier this month. The son of former Clemson basketball player Tom Wideman, Ryan Wideman was one of the top players in the transfer portal following his junior season this summer and transferred to the Tigers on June 11. His chances of being drafted and forgoing his senior season were always a threat, but being taken No. 99 overall with an estimated pick value of $773,000 made his signing feel pretty inevitable. Wideman played in all 60 games last season at Western Kentucky and hit .398 with 10 home runs, 36 extra base hits, and 68 RBIs. He also stole 45 bases in 47 attempts as a top-of-the-order threat. Clemson signee Dax Kilby, an 18-year-old shortstop from Newnan High School in Georgia, was another player the Tigers hoped to have on their 2026 roster that was taken early in MLB's draft. The New York Yankees drafted Kilby in the first round with the No. 39 overall pick and formally announced his signing on July 18. Clemson finished 45-18 overall last season and was the No. 11 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers made their third straight regional appearance under coach Erik Bakich, but the program's College World Series drought officially reached 15 years since their last appearance in 2010.
