Ranking LSU baseball's best five players in the 2025 NCAA Tournament

LSU baseball won its eighth national championship on Sunday. For Jay Johnson and the Tigers, it was their second national title in three years. This team didn't carry the same star power as 2023 -- though Jay Johnson would tell you otherwise -- but the Tigers still got star performances from key players throughout the NCAA Tournament. The starting pitching was stellar, particularly against Coastal Carolina in the College World Series finals. The one-two punch of Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson worked well into every game they could, which kept the Tigers' bullpen fresh. LSU showcased a few different lineups throughout the run, with Johnson not afraid to mix things up. The Tigers got contributions from top to bottom, helping the Tigers go 5-0 in Omaha, the first team to do so since 2013. Timely hitting was the key for the Tigers' bats, with LSU coming through time and time again in two-out situations and runners on base. Here are the top five players for LSU baseball in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and College World Series. 5. Outfielder Chris Stanfield Stanfield showed his experience level on the biggest stage when LSU needed him most. In regionals, he batted in three runs against Dallas Baptist and scored two runs in the opener against Little Rock. Stanfield's success continued in Omaha as he totaled two RBI in the College World Series opener against Arkansas. In the championship clinching game versus Coastal Carolina, he batted in two RBI and crossed the plate himself. The everyday center fielder, Stanfield flashed the leather multiple times even while dealing with odd winds inside Charles Schwab Stadium. He finished the NCAA Tournament with 12 total bases, nine hits, and eight RBI. 4. First basemen Jared Jones The team's go-to slugger, Jones racked up 24 total bases in the NCAA Tournament and finished with four multi-hit games. Even when he seemed to be in a slump, Jones found a way to come through when his team needed it most. Against UCLA, Jones hit a three-run home run to put the Tigers ahead for good before the postponement. In the back-and-forth contest between Arkansas, Jones hit a solo shot to tie the game and knocked in the game-winning run with a walk-off RBI single to send LSU to the College World Series finals. 3. Shortstop Steven Milam In a lineup that experienced plenty of changes during the postseason, Milam remained a fixture in the top half. He racked up 15 hits and 13 RBI during the NCAA Tournament. His biggest moment was a grand slam against West Virginia in the Baton Rouge Super Regional. Even when Milam didn't reach base, he gave quality at bats that forced opposing pitchers into extra work. He remained reliable at shortstop, helping the Tigers keep the base paths clear with solid defensive play. 2. Outfielder Derek Curiel In his first collegiate postseason, Curiel finished his true freshman year as strong as he started it. He finished 2025 on a seven-game hitting streak with 35 total bases plus walks combined. he hit a three-run homer against West Virginia in the super regional and batted in two runs against Coastal Carolina in game two of the finals. Curiel's status as a true freshman means little compared to his contributions to winning the national championship. He played like a veteran all year with discipline in his plate approaches and communication as the every day left fielder. 1. Pitcher Kade Anderson LSU's success in the NCAA Tournament started with its ace. Anderson made four starts and only got better as play wore on. Aside from allowing seven runs to West Virginia in a heavy offensive night for both teams during super regionals, Anderson surrendered just one across 23 innings. He picked up 35 strikeouts in during the tournament. Anderson capped his LSU career with a complete game shutout in game one of the College World Series finals against Coastal Carolina. His durability preserved the Tigers' bullpen for what could've been two more contests. The left-hander persevered with runners on base and propelled his team to the

Three takeaways: LSU baseball beats Coastal Carolina in Game 1 of the CWS final

LSU baseball earned a slim 1-0 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday to open the best-of-three College World Series finals on Saturday night. Inside Omaha's Charles Schwab Stadium, left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson led the Tigers to victory with his second complete game shutout of 2025. Using 130 pitches, he racked up 10 strikeouts. The game's lone run game in the bottom of the first inning. Steven Milam roped an RBI single to center field with one out to score Derek Curiel. It was one of six hits for LSU, but pitching from both dugouts dominated the rest of the way. Coastal Carolina got runners on base often early but couldn't take advantage of three hits and five free passes issued by Anderson. The southpaw remained strong throughout his final game for the Tigers, sticking with his breaking pitches when his fastball couldn't find the strike zone. LSU baseball will return to action in Game 2 on Sunday, looking to clinch the national title. Here are three takeaways from LSU's win over Coastal Carolina in game one of the College World Series finals. Bullpen gets much-needed rest day Anderson's complete game shutout kept the entire bullpen available for Sunday's contest. Relievers such as Chase Shores, Cooper Williams, and Jacob Mayers will have another day of rest heading into what could be the final game of the season. Top relief arms Casan Evans and Zac Cowan also get another day of rest after getting starter-level work in the College World Series. Outside of Anderson and Anthony Eyanson, Evans and Cowan are LSU's best arms. Getting another full day of rest was key for both and puts LSU in a great position for Game 2, and if needed, a Game 3. LSU could use Evans or Cowan out of the pen on Saturday and still have one left to start Game 3 if needed. Milam's clutch-hitting continues Milam racked up 13 RBI throughout the 2025 NCAA Tournament, including the lone run of Saturday's contest. The shortstop also batted in four runs apiece in each game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional against West Virginia. Much of LSU's lineup has been inconsistent this postseason, but Milam continues to deliver quality at-bats, come through in the clutch, and be the glue that holds this group together. The sophomore has peaked at the best time possible and will look to replicate that success on Sunday. Defense plays large role In a game decided by the thinnest margin, LSU made no errors while dealing with nine ground balls off the bats of Chanticleers' hitters. On a windy evening in Omaha, the Tigers caught seven fly balls. Michael Braswell flashed the leather multiple times at the hot corner, firing across the diamond to Jared Jones at first base. Daniel Dickinson made tough grabs at second base as well. There was also this key moment in the top of the third. With two runners on, Coastal Sebastian Alexander tried to steal third. He beat the throw, but Braswell kept the glove on and nailed Alexander off the bag to end the inning and the CCU rally.

LSU baseball meets old Baton Rouge villian in College World Series final

With a walk-off win against Arkansas on Wednesday, LSU baseball earned a berth in the College World Series finals. The Tigers face a program on the rise and an old rival from nearly a decade ago in the best-of-three series. They'll need to enact revenge if they want to win their second national championship in three years. LSU plays Coastal Carolina in the finals, which begin Saturday at 6 PM CT inside Charles Schwab Stadium in Omaha. The Chanticleers defeated Louisville 11-3 to punch their ticket to their second College World Series final. Coast Carolina's last appearance came in 2016, when it won the program's first national championship. In that same NCAA Tournament, the Chanticleers defeated LSU in back-to-back games during the Baton Rouge Super Regional. An unseeded team nationally, Coastal Carolina came into Alex Box Stadium and knocked off an LSU squad ranked inside the top-8 in front of one of the most intimidating crowds in the country. The Tigers suffered an 11-8 loss in game one, then in game two, suffered a defeat in walk-off fashion that ended their season. Need a break? What is LSU baseball's record vs. UCLA? Here's a look at the postseason history

What is LSU baseball's record vs. UCLA? Here's a look at the postseason history LSU baseball is scheduled to face UCLA on Monday night in Game 8 of the College World Series. The Tigers beat Arkansas on Saturday while UCLA began its CWS with a win over Murray State. Now, the programs meet with a chance to start the CWS 2-0. 74% of all CWS finals teams begin 2-0, which makes this a key step for capturing the title. LSU and UCLA don't play often, but this isn't the first meeting. LSU and UCLA have played five times, the first game was in 1988 and the most recent meeting was a 2013 College World Series contest. The 2013 game was a pitchers' duel with LSU's Aaron Nola facing UCLA's Adam Plutko. Nola pitched eight innings and didn't allow an earned run, but LSU errors proved to be costly and UCLA scored twice for a 2-1 win. Three years earlier, LSU and UCLA played in the 2010 Los Angeles Regional. UCLA won 6-3. Trevor Bauer got the start for the Bruins in that one. The postseason history doesn't end there. LSU welcomed UCLA to the Baton Rouge Super Regional in 2000. The Tigers won that series in two games. LSU scored a combined 22 runs vs. a strong Bruins team led by Chase Utley. In 1988, legendary pitcher Ben McDonald led LSU to a 7-1 win vs. the Bruins. UCLA only managed two hits off the big righty. LSU leads the all-time series 3-2 and will look to make it 4-2 with a win on Monday.
