Harry Kane scored a brace as Bayern Munich beat Brazil's Flamengo 4-2 on Sunday to set up a mouth-watering Club World Cup quarter-final date with Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
A sixth-minute own goal from Erick Pulgar and Kane from a distance three minutes later set Bayern on course early in an entertaining last 16 duel at Hard Rock Stadium.
Captain Gerson smashed Flamengo back into the game in the 33rd, Leon Goretzka drilled Bayern's third in the 41st, but - roared on by their big support - Flamengo drew within one again from Jorginho's penalty in the 55th.
England captain Kane then curled Bayern's fourth in the 73rd which broke the resistance of their Rio de Janeiro opponents who had beaten Chelsea 3-1 in the group stage.
Bayern happy and now face PSG Bayern will now face fancied PSG, who trounced Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 earlier Sunday, in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Atlanta.
Bayern beat PSG 1-0 in the league stage of the Champions League in November, and Player of the Match Kane told streaming portal DAZN that he sees a chance for his side.
'It will be another tough game. PSG have had an amazing season. We played them earlier and came out on top. We must show that energy. We can beat anyway when we are at our level,' Kane said.
Looking at the match, he said: 'It was tough. Flamengo are a really good team. I thought we played well for large periods of the game.
They made it difficult for us. The fourth goal was an imprtant goal for us.
Mistakes cost Flamengo Jorginho said: 'In big games like these details make the difference.
For large parts it was a very equal game. They came out from a few mistakes by us.' Coaches Vincent Kompany and Filipe Luis rotated their stars in again after giving many players a rest in their final group games, having already been qualified for the last 16.
Bayern ace Jamal Musiala was still not part of the starting 11 in his comeback from injury at the tournament. He came on for the final 20 minutes.
Bayern strike early - twice Bayern dominated the opening minutes and won three corners, which Joshua Kimmich all delivered dangerously into the goalmouth, and the third of them was headed into his own far corner by Pulgar.
It was 2-0 three minutes later when Dayot Upamecano dispossessed Giorgian de Arrascaeta deep in Flamengo's half, and Kane fired in off the left post from a distance.
Flamengo come back - briefly Flamengo tried to hit back, and Manuel Neuer made an extraordinary save against Luiz Araujo's effort from point blank range at the far post to preserve the two-goal advantage.
But Neuer was left without a chance when captain Gerson smashed into the roof of the net right over the keeper's head in the 33rd.
The joy didn't last long, though, as Bayern became more active again and made it 3-1 in the 41st from Goretzka's swerving drive which left goalkeeper Agustin Rossi stranded.
Kane finally makes the difference Flamengo pushed again after the restart. They were awarded when Michael Olise handled a cross, and Jorginho calmly sent Neuer the wrong way from the spot in the 55th.
The game hung in the balance but another lost Flamengo ball allowed Kimmich to find Kane in the 73rd to clinch matters into the bottom right corner.
Leroy Sanè missed a possible fifth in stoppage time after coming on as a sub in his last Bayern game before a move to Turkey's Galatasaray.

Sydney FC in talks with Bayern great Thomas Muller

dpa Berlin Australian club Sydney FC are in talks with Bayern Munich great Thomas Müller, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Wednesday. Müller, who left Bayern this summer after the Club World Cup, has been heavily linked to a move to the MLS in the United States. However, according to the report, the player and his representatives have been in talks with Sydney FC 'for several weeks' about a switch to the A-League, and the club believes there is still a chance of convincing him. Sources with knowledge of the negotiations said that the 2014 World Cup champion had been impressed with the pitch made to him by Sydney FC. A move would see Müller play again alongside former Bayern team-mate Douglas Costa. The report added that Müller's answer is expected 'within the next week or so, with the club recently informed that they are one of the final two options he is considering.' Broadcaster Sky reported on Tuesday that one of the options in the US for Müller is Los Angeles FC, while FC Cincinnati said last month that they had offered Müller a deal. The Sydney Morning Herald said that Sydney FC declined to comment, while Müller's management was also contacted for comment. Müller has yet to officially confirm whether he will continue playing football. The veteran midfielder is currently on holiday and is expected to sign a contract with his new club next week, Sky said. Müller left Bayern after 25 years of service as his contract expired this summer and he wasn't given a new deal. His last game for his boyhood club was the 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup quarter-finals.

Kahn back on German TV two years after Bayern sacking

dpa Berlin Oliver Kahn wiill return to German television in the coming season, two years after he was sacked as Bayern Munich chief executive. He will be a regular guest on a new Sky Germany show on Thursdays talking about various football topics. However, Sky told dpa on Sunday that he would not be a pundit on matchdays. He had previously been linked in the media with a boardroom job at Hertha Berlin and also failed in a bid to buy Girondins Bordeaux. 'Football is passion, football is emotion, but it is also a multi-billion-euro business,' Kahn said in a Sky statement. 'It is important to me to analyse and contextualize the key topics and current developments in national and international football.' After the former Germany and Bayern star retired as a goalkeeper in 2008, he became a pundit for Germany's ZDF TV until he took over the running of Bayern in 2021. The 56-year-old lasted only two years in the job after the bungled firing of coach Julian Nagelsmann led the board to sack Kahn.
