Roma offer €25m for Wesley

Roma are reportedly getting closer to the signing of Wesley of Flamengo. The Giallorossi have in fact presented an offer of 25 million euros, including bonuses, to secure the services of the 2003-born winger, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport. Advertisement The player was also convinced by the direct pressure from Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma's new coach, who indicated the winger among his first transfer targets. Last summer, Wesley had already been close to joining Atalanta but the deal fell through. Now, a year later, the scenario has moved to the capital, with Roma ready to close the deal in the next few hours. The player has already given the green light for the transfer to take place. Wesley chose the Roman destination also thanks to the advice of a friend and former Giallorossi player, Gerson, who advised him to move to Serie A. However, the real decisive element was the central role that Gasperini intends to assign to him in the new Roma, a project that has thrilled the player. Advertisement According to leaks, the agreement is expected to be found on the basis of a loan with an obligation to buy, in a synergy between Roma and Everton. This formula would guarantee financial flexibility to the Roman club, while ensuring control of the player's rights. However, the definitive agreement with Flamengo, which has always valued the player at around 30 million, still needs to be defined. The Brazilian club is now examining the Roman offer, and the player's will could represent a decisive lever to lower Flamengo's financial demands. There is optimism for a positive conclusion in the near future.

Kane brace helps Bayern beat Flamengo, set up clash with PSG

dpa Miami Harry Kane scored a brace as Bayern Munich beat Brazil's Flamengo 4-2 on Sunday to set up a mouth-watering Club World Cup quarter-final date with Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. A sixth-minute own goal from Erick Pulgar and Kane from a distance three minutes later set Bayern on course early in an entertaining last 16 duel at Hard Rock Stadium. Captain Gerson smashed Flamengo back into the game in the 33rd, Leon Goretzka drilled Bayern's third in the 41st, but - roared on by their big support - Flamengo drew within one again from Jorginho's penalty in the 55th. England captain Kane then curled Bayern's fourth in the 73rd which broke the resistance of their Rio de Janeiro opponents who had beaten Chelsea 3-1 in the group stage. Bayern happy and now face PSG Bayern will now face fancied PSG, who trounced Lionel Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 earlier Sunday, in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Atlanta. Bayern beat PSG 1-0 in the league stage of the Champions League in November, and Player of the Match Kane told streaming portal DAZN that he sees a chance for his side. 'It will be another tough game. PSG have had an amazing season. We played them earlier and came out on top. We must show that energy. We can beat anyway when we are at our level,' Kane said. Looking at the match, he said: 'It was tough. Flamengo are a really good team. I thought we played well for large periods of the game. They made it difficult for us. The fourth goal was an imprtant goal for us. Mistakes cost Flamengo Jorginho said: 'In big games like these details make the difference. For large parts it was a very equal game. They came out from a few mistakes by us.' Coaches Vincent Kompany and Filipe Luis rotated their stars in again after giving many players a rest in their final group games, having already been qualified for the last 16. Bayern ace Jamal Musiala was still not part of the starting 11 in his comeback from injury at the tournament. He came on for the final 20 minutes. Bayern strike early - twice Bayern dominated the opening minutes and won three corners, which Joshua Kimmich all delivered dangerously into the goalmouth, and the third of them was headed into his own far corner by Pulgar. It was 2-0 three minutes later when Dayot Upamecano dispossessed Giorgian de Arrascaeta deep in Flamengo's half, and Kane fired in off the left post from a distance. Flamengo come back - briefly Flamengo tried to hit back, and Manuel Neuer made an extraordinary save against Luiz Araujo's effort from point blank range at the far post to preserve the two-goal advantage. But Neuer was left without a chance when captain Gerson smashed into the roof of the net right over the keeper's head in the 33rd. The joy didn't last long, though, as Bayern became more active again and made it 3-1 in the 41st from Goretzka's swerving drive which left goalkeeper Agustin Rossi stranded. Kane finally makes the difference Flamengo pushed again after the restart. They were awarded when Michael Olise handled a cross, and Jorginho calmly sent Neuer the wrong way from the spot in the 55th. The game hung in the balance but another lost Flamengo ball allowed Kimmich to find Kane in the 73rd to clinch matters into the bottom right corner. Leroy Sanè missed a possible fifth in stoppage time after coming on as a sub in his last Bayern game before a move to Turkey's Galatasaray.

Bayern Munich set up a Club World Cup quarter-final with Paris Saint-Germain after beating Flamengo 4-2 Getty Images Bayern Munich have booked their place in the Club World Cup quarter-final after beating Flamengo 4-2 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Bundesliga champions struck early with an Erick Pulgar own goal and a deflected Harry Kane strike giving them a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes. Gerson hammered a strike past Manuel Neuer to halve the deficit but Leon Goretzka restored the two-goal advantage with a great strike of his own from distance. Jorginho cut the lead back to one from the penalty spot but Kane made sure of the Bayern victory with a brilliant finish in the 73rd minute. The Germans will face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final on Saturday, July 5. GO FURTHER Harry Kane arrives at the Club World Cup – but can Bayern Munich really beat PSG? Getty Images The winner of this match will have the tough task of facing Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final, after the European champions rolled to a 4-0 victory over Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in Atlanta earlier today. PSG scored all four goals in the first half. Joao Neves got the first two, heading home unmarked in the sixth minute before finishing off a lovely team move a half hour later. A Tomas Aviles own goal accounted for the third before Achraf Hakimi added the fourth on the stroke of half-time. Getty Images Bayern Munich are strong favourites to progress to the quarter-final, but they will have to snap an impressive unbeaten run for their opponents. Flamengo come into today's last-16 on an 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Their last defeat was a domestic one, losing 2-1 against Cruzeiro on May 4. If they avoid defeat today in 90 minutes, their unbeaten run will stretch beyond two months. Getty Images Six changes to the Flamengo team that drew 1-1 with LAFC with the headline news being the return to the line-up of Jorginho — here's the team in full: Starting XI: Rossi; Wesley, Pereira, Ortiz, Sandro; Jorginho, Pulgar; Gerson, De Arrascaeta, Araujo; Plata. Getty Images Vincent Kompany restores the Kimmich-Goretzka axis in midfield, and picks a fluid-looking three behind Harry Kane, in Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry. It's a talented group of players, but in combination they don't always function and sometimes their individual impact has been lost under the weight of all the positional rotations. Let's see. Josip Stanisic at left-back is another area of difficulty; it might work, but I have never seen it happen. Stanisic is a better right-sided player and often looks awkward with the ball and exposed without it on the other flank. Getty Images A host of changes for Bayern Munich from their final group-stage defeat as Vincent Kompany restores his team back to full strength — here is how the Germans line up at Hard Rock Stadium: Starting XI: Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Gnabry, Coman; Kane. Getty Images Oh yes, a revamped tournament definitely needs a redesigned trophy — especially one carrying the name of FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Twice. The all new Club World Cup was designed by FIFA and jewellery brand Tiffany & Co, and unveiled by Infantino alongside U.S. president Donald Trump. As well as displaying Infantino's name (twice) the trophy also features the name of all 211 FIFA member nations. There is a central disc and three outer rings, meaning it can be displayed as a flat shield or opened with a key to reveal 'a multifaceted and orbital structure' — which I think we can all agree, sounds intriguing. Argentina prevailed 1-0 in extra time, but the match was marred by a lack of crowd control that led to a near stampede outside the stadium's gates before kick-off. Kane bags double as Bayern tame Flamengo to set up PSG clash

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich tamed Flamengo 4-2 in a tense affair at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday to set up a much-anticipated all-European quarter-final against Paris St Germain at the Club World Cup. Erick Pulgar's own goal opened the scoring for Bayern and Leon Goretzka was also on target for the German side, while Flamengo, who were defensively naive, twice reduced the deficit through Gerson and Jorginho. Backed by a raucous crowd, Flamengo played with aggression but Bayern converted all their shots on target and reaped the rewards of a fast start, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. "It was tough. We were playing against a really good side in difficult conditions, it was really hot," Kane said. "I thought we played well for large spells but every time we got away they clawed their way back and made it difficult. The fourth goal was important to ease the nerves and from there we managed it well." Earlier on Sunday, Champions League winners PSG sent a brutal reminder of their firepower when they cruised past Inter Miami 4-0, taking their foot off the pedal after the break in what could have turned into a humiliation for Lionel Messi's MLS team. Bayern got off to a flying start, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Pulgar deflected a corner kick into his own net. Three minutes later, Kane doubled the advantage with a low shot that went in off the post. Flamengo got into something of a groove and went close in the 15th minute, only for Manuel Neuer to save Luiz Araujo's effort from point-blank range. Shortly after the cooling break, the Brazilian side pulled one back as Gerson fired a missile that went in off the underside of the bar, triggering a deafening roar from the crowd. Bayern, however, restored their two-goal lead before the interval when Goretzka, capitalising on the space left by the Flamengo defence, whipped a shot from outside the box past keeper Agustin Rossi. Tempers flared after a poor challenge by Pulgar on Kane as Flamengo struggled to contain their frustration. Filipe Luis's side pulled one back again 10 minutes into the second half, Jorginho sending Neuer the wrong way after they were awarded a penalty for a Michael Olise handball. The momentum had swung and Flamengo threatened with quick breaks, but Bayern held firm before finding the back of the net once more through Kane, who beat Rossi with another clinical low shot in the 73rd minute.

Harry Kane brace spearheads Bayern to win over Flamengo

A brace from Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane helped the German champions thump Flamengo out of the FIFA Club World Cup in the Round of 16 after a fiercely contested battle. Die Rekordmeister beat the Brazilians 4-2 at the MetLife Stadium in an action-packed match-up, setting up a mouth-watering quarter-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain. Advertisement Bayern took the lead early when Erick Pulgar turned a Joshua Kimmich corner into his net in the sixth minute. Kane made matters worse for Filipe Luis' side three minutes later as he turned and unleashed a laser-guided shot off his left boot to double the Bayern lead. However, Flamengo scrambled to get back into the game and got their goal through captain Gerson, who crashed the box before unleashing a venomous shot on 33 that beat Manuel Neuer. Unfortunately for Flamengo, Bayern hit back eight minutes later through Leon Goretzka following a poor clearance. The German international caught it perfectly, leaving the keeper flat-footed as the ball nestled into the back of the net. Advertisement Flamengo showed they were no pushovers. They deservedly beat Chelsea in the group stage and gave Bayern a run for their money. They won a penalty off an avoidable Michael Olise handball incident, and Jorginho converted the chance to make it 3-2, setting up a tentative conclusion. Flamengo tried to rally, but Kane put them away following a sniper's finish on 73 after he was set free. He starred in the win and will be key to Bayern's chances of beating PSG in the quarter-final. The 31-year-old is now up to 41 goals for the season and has become the first Englishman in the history of the professional game to score 40-plus goals in successive seasons. No Englishman has more seasons with 40+ goals (three, including 2017/18 with Tottenham Hotspur). He is also the top English scorer in the Club World Cup.
