Internet turns on Jamie Lee Curtis over ‘insane' red carpet outburst
Curtis was a guest at the recent Las Culturistas Culture Awards at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. The tongue-in-cheek pop culture themed awards (some sample categories: the Woman of a Certain Age Award and Best Title for the Next Bridget Jones) are the brainchild of comedians and podcasters Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
The pair were on the red carpet outside the Orpheum, answering some questions for media outlet Vulture, who'd asked them to recite some iconic movie lines into the camera.
Saturday Night Live star Yang was giving it his best Julia Roberts as Erin Brokovich, delivering the line 'I'm not talkin' to you, b**ch!', when suddenly Curtis appeared beside them, interuppting the vox pop and looking agitated.
'We're quoting Julia Roberts,' Rogers explained, perhaps worried Curtis had thought that particular quote was directed at her.
But the Freakier Friday star stood between the comedians and the camera, her arms outstretched, and gave them a firm direction: 'Bring the whole f**king thing down.'
She seemed completely unaware that she was talking to the hosts and organisers of the event she was at – and was about to spend several hours watching them on stage.
'You're going to hate this show then,' Yang quipped. 'We're going to be pitching to the rafters.'
Rogers gave Curtis some cheeky advice in return: 'Maybe you could bring it up?'
Those who watched the moment on social media were shocked by Curtis' behaviour, with some asking if the actress was attempting a 'bit' or whether she was serious.
'The audacity to interrupt someone's interview at Their Own Award Show just to shush them is insane,' one person tweeted.
Another said the moment 'repulsed' them – 'Doing this to [Rogers and Yang] at their own event?'
One person under Vulture's post dubbed Curtis 'the ultimate Karen' – a tag that's followed her after a string of minor controversies in recent years.
She publicly apologised in August last year after slamming Marvel at Comic-Con, and earlier in 2024 sparked a bizarre feud with Bella Ramsey over a joke the young actor made while presenting an award at the Critics Choice Awards.
She copped further backlash in January of this year when she likened the wildfires that had decimated whole neighbourhoods in Los Angeles to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Inside Johnny Depp's secret new life in UK
Johnny Depp has reportedly ditched Hollywood for a quiet life in the UK after a tumultuous five years dominated by his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. The Pirates of the Caribbean star is renting a secluded mansion in the Sussex countryside, near the border with Kent, according to the Daily Mail. The sprawling estate features ten bedrooms, a sunken garden, an open-air amphitheatre, water features and two staff cottages. The property, which dates back to the 1850s, is hidden behind towering trees, ornate gates, and Gothic statues. The Oscar-nominated actor is said to have made the move for reasons of peace, privacy, and security. Depp is thought to have fallen in love with the area after visiting his late friend, guitarist Jeff Beck. 'Mr Depp knows this area well and he loves it here,' a local source told the Daily Mail. 'It's a beautiful home and very peaceful'. According to a showbiz insider, the Edward Scissorhands actor chose to reside in Sussex instead of the Cotswolds, a popular spot for Hollywood celebrities, suggesting his desire for 'peace and quiet'. 'Johnny's choice of a very quiet corner of Sussex rather than the goldfish bowl that the Cotswolds has become for big stars tells you all you need to know about his mindset: he wants peace and quiet,' an insider said. 'And he has no interest in being judged by the kind of people who walked away from him.' Depp took a step back from Hollywood amid his highly publicised defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022. The Ed Wood actor took his ex to court in Virginia over accusations she made in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. The Aquaman actress claimed that Depp had been physically abusive to her during their relationship — allegations that he vehemently denied. The A-lister's career was almost destroyed after losing a UK libel case in 2020, labelling him a 'wife beater'. He then dropped from major roles, including Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean. The Dark Shadows star won all three counts against Heard. He was awarded $US15 million ($A22 million) in damages, which was later reduced to $US10.3 million ($A15.6 million), Page Six reported. Despite winning his defamation case, Depp's reputation was damaged. 'I was shunned, dumped, booted, deep-sixed, cancelled, however you want to define it,' Depp said in a recent interview. 'Would I rather have not gone through that? Of course. But I learned more than I ever dreamed I could.' Since then, the star has managed to keep busy in other ways. Earlier this month, Depp stepped out at The Curzon Mayfair in London for the red carpet premiere of 'Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness'. 'Modi', which stars Al Pacino and Riccardo Scamarcio, marks the first film Depp has directed since 1997's The Brave. After 'Modi', Depp is set to return to the big screen in a starring role for the new film 'Day Drinker' with Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz.

Jamie Lee Curtis is ‘prepping' to leave Hollywood as she slams plastic surgery as ‘genocide'
Jamie Lee Curtis said she's preparing to leave the spotlight – in part thanks to her experience of watching her famous parents' careers as they aged, and thanks to watching plastic surgery take off. 'I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,' Curtis, 66, told The Guardian, in an interview published on Sunday. 'I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone,' she added. 'And that's very painful.' The Halloween star'sfamous parents were Janet Leigh – who was in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, and Tony Curtis (Some Like It Hot). Leigh died in 2004 at age 77, while Tony Curtis died in 2010 at age 85. They were married from 1951 until their 1962 divorce. Curtis also slammed plastic surgery as being 'the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who've disfigured themselves.' The Last Showgirl actress has been married to British actor Christopher Guest since 1984, and shares daughters Ruby, 29, and Annie, 38, with him. 'I believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human (appearance),' she explained. 'The concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, surgical procedures, fillers – there's a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances.' She blasted AI as aiding and abetting this, 'because now the filter face is what people want. I'm not filtered right now. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it's hard not to go: 'Oh, well that looks better.' But what's better? Better is fake.' Curtis did not name names of celebs who have admitted to getting plastic surgery, such as the Kardashians. 'There are too many examples – I will not name them – but very recently we have had a big onslaught through media, many of those people,' she stated. Despite her plans to step back from the spotlight, Curtis still has a recent slew of hot projects, as well as upcoming movies and TV shows. She finally won an Oscar in 2023 (for Best Supporting Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once), and has a recurring side role as Carmy's (Jeremy Allen White) mother in the Emmy-winning drama The Bear, which has been renewed for a Season 5. She's also in the Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday (hitting Aussie cinemas August 7), and she recently confirmed that she will take over the late Angela Lansbury's iconic role of Jessica Fletcher in a Murder, She Wrote reboot. Coming up, she'll film Ella McCay alongside Woody Harrelson and her The Bear co-star Ayo Edebiri (premiering in December) and will star in the Prime Video series Scarpetta with Nicole Kidman (which doesn't have an announced premiere date yet). 'I have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I don't have to suffer the same as my family did,' she told The Guardian. 'I want to leave the party before I'm no longer invited.' 'I have become quite brusque,' the True Lies actress added. 'And I have no problem saying: 'Back the f**k off.''
