Internet turns on Jamie Lee Curtis over ‘insane' red carpet outburst
Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis is copping a backlash online for her strange outburst on the red carpet at a recent awards show – seemingly unaware that she was dressing down her hosts for the evening. Curtis was a guest at the recent Las Culturistas Culture Awards at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. The tongue-in-cheek pop culture themed awards (some sample categories: the Woman of a Certain Age Award and Best Title for the Next Bridget Jones) are the brainchild of comedians and podcasters Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. The pair were on the red carpet outside the Orpheum, answering some questions for media outlet Vulture, who'd asked them to recite some iconic movie lines into the camera. Saturday Night Live star Yang was giving it his best Julia Roberts as Erin Brokovich, delivering the line 'I'm not talkin' to you, b**ch!', when suddenly Curtis appeared beside them, interuppting the vox pop and looking agitated. 'We're quoting Julia Roberts,' Rogers explained, perhaps worried Curtis had thought that particular quote was directed at her. But the Freakier Friday star stood between the comedians and the camera, her arms outstretched, and gave them a firm direction: 'Bring the whole f**king thing down.' She seemed completely unaware that she was talking to the hosts and organisers of the event she was at – and was about to spend several hours watching them on stage. 'You're going to hate this show then,' Yang quipped. 'We're going to be pitching to the rafters.' Rogers gave Curtis some cheeky advice in return: 'Maybe you could bring it up?' Those who watched the moment on social media were shocked by Curtis' behaviour, with some asking if the actress was attempting a 'bit' or whether she was serious. 'The audacity to interrupt someone's interview at Their Own Award Show just to shush them is insane,' one person tweeted. Another said the moment 'repulsed' them – 'Doing this to [Rogers and Yang] at their own event?' One person under Vulture's post dubbed Curtis 'the ultimate Karen' – a tag that's followed her after a string of minor controversies in recent years. She publicly apologised in August last year after slamming Marvel at Comic-Con, and earlier in 2024 sparked a bizarre feud with Bella Ramsey over a joke the young actor made while presenting an award at the Critics Choice Awards. She copped further backlash in January of this year when she likened the wildfires that had decimated whole neighbourhoods in Los Angeles to the ongoing war in Gaza. The Last Showgirl.

Irish EuroMillions winners all made same surprising decision after landing fortune
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info They say home is where the heart is but would this still be the case if you suddenly had tens of millions in your bank account? Perhaps that is a question the most recent Irish EuroMillions winner will have to ponder after they scooped a record-breaking €250million jackpot last month. The so far anonymous person has since made contact to the National Lottery to put the guessing game to bed. A spokesperson said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to have heard from our EuroMillions winner. At this point, our priority is to give them the necessary time and space to make arrangements and let this life-changing news sink in.' And while they let the news sink in, they may be seeking inspiration from previous winners who spoke on the record, to see how they managed their fortunes. With this in mind, below we look at three case studies who all decided to stay close to home with their new funds. Matt Rogers (Image: PA) Dublin farmer Matt Rogers was once the record holder after claiming an astonishing €175.4million on the EuroMillions in February 2019 alongside his eight siblings. But rather than let the money go to his head, Matt and his siblings cherished the simple things in life, and celebrated with a €12.50 carvery. Minted Matt, who treated himself to a Peugeot SUV, also decided to remain at home in the farmhouse in Naul where he grew up with his siblings. He had the site renovated, but while the work was being done, he lived in an outbuilding, despite being able to afford anywhere he wanted. Speaking about staying true to his roots, he told the Irish Sun: 'Things are perfect here. This is where I grew up. I have no intentions at all of moving. The green house keeps me busy.' He added: 'It all started with the original house. Eleven of us used to live in there. It was just a bare shell there. I have renovated it all and I'm happy with how it has turned out.' As for advice to the latest winner, he encouraged them to stay 'grounded' and that hopefully they 'enjoy the money' and it is 'well split up'. Dolores McNamara Dolores McNamara was once a part-time cleaner who was in her local pub in Limerick, The Track Bar, when she learned her lucky lottery numbers had made her €115million richer 20 years ago this month. (Image: PA) And similar to Matt, Dolores felt no great desire to move to the Bahamas. Instead she bought a property in neighbouring County Clare. The extravagant Lough Derg Hall set her back €1.75m and proving that home really is where the heart is, she even bought six houses in the Limerick area for her six children. However, staying local after winning an incredible amount of cash had dark consequences, and Dolores, now 64, had to buy 24/7 security at her home. This was because of kidnapping threats and her son, his partner, and their child had to relocate to a private location after a sinister plot where a local gang were reportedly planning an abduction. Despite celebrating the 20th anniversary of her win this month, she has only given one newspaper interview, and she once told the Limerick Leader: 'The question that has been asked of me most frequently was how I felt about my win and my answer is still the same - I feel disbelief and shock. Buying a ticket for that Euro jackpot was a spur of the moment decision. I'd actually gone into the shop to buy a top-up for my phone and just asked the lady for a Lotto ticket.' Margaret Loughrey In Northern Ireland we have the poignant case of Margaret Loughrey, from Strabane, who won £27million (approx €31m) in 2013. (Image: BBC) She was 48, divorced and had just been to the job centre when she purchased a Lucky Dip EuroMillions ticket, a decision she later said 'destroyed' her life. She was living off £71 a week at the time in her modest two-bedroom bungalow, and this is where she ended up passing away eight years later. Despite struggling to cope with the money, she demonstrated her generosity in various ways in her local community, where she decided to remain. Margaret used her winnings to renovate a dilapidated property and to build a £1million home beside her bungalow. However, she eventually returned to her simpler bungalow, with her brother suggesting the new home, resembling a fantasy from Grand Designs, was overwhelming for her. And that is where her family say she died of natural causes following an illness in 2021. (Image: GOOGLE MAPS) But before her untimely death, Margaret served her community, and reportedly covered the funeral costs for a financially struggling family while also funding medical procedures for other locals. And Grainne Dunne, from Knockavoe School, said Margaret made a big donation to help the children with special needs there. Grainne added: 'She came to see us a couple of years ago and soon after we received a very substantial donation. She was a modest woman.' A worker at New Horizons, which supports adults with intellectual disabilities, also said they had been given a 'substantial sum' from Margaret who also gave her siblings £1m each. And councillor Paul Gallagher, who was a neighbour of hers, said after her death: ' Covid has put a mighty strain on charities. She had her troubles but Margaret has helped with the survival of these groups and those benefits will be felt for a long, long time to come.'

Farmer who won £150m on EuroMillions compared it to 'being in prison'
One lucky punter in Ireland claimed a life-changing €250million (approx £215m) on the EuroMillions last month but a previous winner has issued some words of wisdom to the new record holder The biggest EuroMillions win in history has been claimed recently, with one lucky punter in Cork, Ireland bagging a whopping €250million (£215m). A National Lottery spokesperson commented that they're giving the winner time to "let this life-changing win sink in". Yet, a former record holder, Matt Rogers, once disclosed the weighty reality of winning such a mammoth prize, suggesting it's not all joy. The Dublin farmer and his eight siblings scooped up an eye-watering €175.4m (approx £151m) in February 2019. However, shortly after their win, he implied that the windfall was somewhat of a mixed blessing. Surrounded by media at his humble farmstead, Matt remarked: "I was happy at the start but now with all this... [people calling in]... it's like being in prison. It's just a lot to take in." In a strikingly honest exchange, Matt mentioned his sister warned him "not to say anything" – and when quizzed about joining a press conference with his siblings, he simply shrugged, responding: "There will be something next week alright." He then retreated back into his rural abode. Onlookers might have taken away a valuable lesson – instant millions don't guarantee everlasting bliss. Indeed, often it's life's simpler pleasures that count. That was demonstrated by the understa by Matt and his siblings, including Christine Rogers and Kathleen Sheridan, in their understated celebrations. Rather than splash out on anything too flashy or out of character, the pair celebrated their windfall with a modest €12.50 carvery meal. Kathleen, who also said the win was "a lot to take in", used her portion of the prize to purchase a Mazda CX-5 – a step up from her previous Mazda2. Minted Matt, who treated himself to a Peugeot SUV instead of a Lamborghini, demonstrated his modest nature by refusing to abandon his farmhouse. While renovating the property, he chose to live in an outbuilding rather than splash out on luxurious temporary accommodation. The humble farmer told the Irish Sun it was "perfect" staying put because that's where he'd grown up alongside his siblings, and he felt no desire to find another home. The proud Dubliner revealed he no longer participates in the EuroMillions, believing it was someone else's chance to have their life transformed. That's precisely what occurred last month, and offering guidance to the mystery winner, he encouraged them to remain "grounded" and said: "I hope they enjoy the money. Hopefully it [€250m) is well split up." The latest EuroMillions winner has, at the time of writing, remained anonymous. However, we do know the winning ticket was purchased at Clifford's Centra on Shandon Street in Cork. The shop is set to pocket a cool €25,000 (£21.5k) for selling the lucky ticket, and Anne O'Sullivan, a seasoned cashier at the establishment, couldn't contain her excitement: "Hearing it was won around the area was fantastic, I don't care who won it, as long as it was won around the area. It doesn't make any difference but I hope a syndicate won it, is it too much money for one person? "What would I do with the money? I'd have to book in somewhere and get someone to advise me, I've a big family and I'd want to make them all happy."
