'From another planet' - The best reactions as Cork throttle Dublin

GAA fans have had their say after a sensational display saw Cork trounce Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final.
A buoyant Pat Ryan urged his Cork team to embrace the 'buzz' after their 20-point devastation of Dublin.
A full house, dominated by a travelling Cork army, watched Ryan's team shoot 7-26 to blitz the Dublin fairytale and move within 70 minutes of ending the county's 20-year wait for the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
And, irrespective of who wins today's second semi-final between Kilkenny and Tipperary, Cork will be raging hot favourites to win the All-Ireland in two weeks' time. Cork in action against Dublin in Croke Park. Pic: Ray McManus/Sportsfile
It's not a position that spooks Ryan. 'I think we've been favourites for lots of games all year, bar probably the Munster final,' he said afterwards.
'We're amateur athletes. There is going to be a great buzz around Cork, and you embrace it. Unfortunately, we can't go away to Dubai for two weeks, relax and chill out and prepare out there.
'Fellas have to go back to work, meet their colleagues or whatever they're doing, but we'll enjoy it – and the county board can look after the problems with tickets,' he grinned. 'What I always say is, I'd always prefer to be favourites because that means you're doing something right. 5 July 2025; Brian Hayes of Cork celebrates scoring his side's 4th goal, in the 32nd minute, during the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-final match between Cork and Dublin at Croke Park in Dublin. 'That's the way I look at it. It's up to the lads: if you're winning matches and performing well, you're going to be favourites, but, as we know ourselves, it doesn't make a difference what the bookies are going to do: you have to turn up and perform.
'We were favourites for the All-Ireland final last year I'd say and we didn't win. It's about being focused on ourselves and making sure we're ready to go.'
Fair play to the #Cork hurling fans-incredible support today. I've never seen anything like it! A great team to follow. But I was disappointed for the #Dublin hurlers – they deserved much bigger support. I also felt they battled to the end with great honesty and determination. 👏 pic.twitter.com/xg9ye75Pb3 — Des Cahill (@sportsdes) July 5, 2025
Expectation has been sky-high on Leeside since Cork's epic Munster final win over Limerick on penalties, and when Dublin then stunned the hurling world by beating Limerick in the last eight, Cork was immediately installed as front-runners.

Ryan, though, has no concerns about his players being exposed to the hype that is sure to ensue.
'I think we got an awful lot right last year in what we were doing,' he said, referring to their preparations for last year's decider when they were beaten by Clare in extra time. Pic: Ray McManus/Sportsfile
'That wasn't the reason we were beaten. We came up, and we performed; we were 1-7 to 0-3 up after 15 or 20 minutes.
'Fellas say, 'Should you have slept in this hotel? Should you have done this or that?' Look at the start we got. We came up against a brilliant team.
'It took an awful lot out of us last year to perform in the semi-final against Limerick, and we were never going to hit the heights that we needed to. We were really proud of the lads last year, and we're really proud of how they dug down. Pic: David Fitzgerald/Sportsfile
'What I always say is, I'd always prefer to be favourites because that means you're doing something right.'
Ryan was rich in his praise of the players for the way they rebounded from losing last year's decider, and highlighted an overlooked aspect of their preparations this term.
'It's a small little thing, but the weather was much better this year, so the fellas were looking forward to going to training.
'If you're not really involved around teams, sometimes you can think the weather is the same, but the weather this year was fantastic, and it made a huge difference around Páirc Uí Rinn and Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Remarkable performance by Cork, a twenty point win over Dublin; 7-26 to 2-21 – Killeagh, by Kingfishr rings out around Croke Park at the full time whistle. 'There was a great buzz and the year just flew.'
Niall Ó Ceallacháin, the Dublin manager, was devastated after seeing his team getting blitzed.
'By far the better team won the game, absolutely no question,' he said. 'No excuses. We had to be better in lots of ways. I thought they were excellent, though, as well. They were very well set up and were extremely sharp, full of energy, very aggressive.'
Yet Again, Seán O'Donoghue was AWESOME for Cork today. One of the Best defenders in the Game. His Hooks and Blocks are incredible. NO BREAD, NO WATER, JUST MEATTTT 🥩 pic.twitter.com/pywu7tZ0AP — Buff Egan (@buff_egan) July 5, 2025
NB. Cork utterly overpowering & outclassing Dublin applies not just to this hurling match but also to culture, quality of citizen, cuisine, and humility.

Celtic fans invade Pairc Ui Chaoimh pitch after winning pre-season trophy

Celtic fans invaded the pitch in scenes reminiscent of a big Cork GAA hurling day as they won the inaugural Cork Super Cup in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Tuesday evening. Cork City hosted the Scottish giants at the home of Cork GAA for a glamour friendly with the Hoops running out 2-1 winners on the day. The game had all the tell-tale signs of a pre-season friendly with a crowd half hearted trying to drum up an atmosphere while Celtic were undercooked as they gear up for the new season. In the end, Celtic would run out 2-1 winners thanks to a late Colby Donovan header, while Cork showed plenty of fight and were the fitter and better team for large spells of the game. In truth, there wasn't much to shout about during the game but the fans who paid to attend made sure to storm the pitch afterwards. There was disappointment for fans with hometown hero Adam Idah not selected to play. Ireland forward Idah had been a central figure in promoting the game and was in Cork but given he played Ireland's international games after Celtic's Scottish Cup final he has been given some extra days off. Idah is back in training with the Celtic squad and could feature as soon as this Saturday in their next friendly. The Scottish Champions are busy with upcoming friendlies as they gear up for their league opener on August 3rd. Although Ireland is a relatively attractive venue for pre-season friendlies with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United playing fixtures here in recent years, there is a surprisingly small slate of games this time round. The only confirmed fixture up to this point is Leeds versus AC Milan in the Aviva Stadium.

Brian Lohan's Clare tenure extended by another three years

Brian Lohan's tenure as Clare senior hurling manager has been extended by another three years. At a county board meeting the decision was made with delegates overwhelmingly approving the extension. RTÉ Sport has confirmed that Lohan's tenure will now run until the end of the 2028 season with county board delegates praising the Wolfe Tones man for his reign to-date. An iconic full-back in his playing days, Lohan led Clare to the All-Ireland title last year. Having won two All-Irelands as a player, Lohan was first ratified as the Banner boss in 2019. In 2023, his tenure was officially extended and tonight his reign was increased for a third time. Last year, under Lohan and his backroom team of Ken Ralph, Tommy Corbett, Shane Hassett and Brendan Bugler, Clare achieved a league and championship double for the first time. This year saw them hit with injuries to key players at crucial junctures of the season as they failed to emerge from the round-robin series in Munster. Overall his time in charge has seen great progression with the side reaching three Munster finals and two All-Ireland semi-finals. Next season will mark his seventh in charge of the side.
